Deutéronome 32
1 Cieux, écoutez! et je parlerai, et que la terre entende les paroles de ma bouche!
Give ear, ye heavens, and I will speak; and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
2 Que mes leçons s'épanchent comme la pluie, que ma parole coule comme la rosée, comme l'ondée sur la verdure, et comme les gouttes menues sur la plante.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew; as the small rain upon the tender grass, and as the showers upon the herb.
3 Car je proclame le Nom de l'Éternel: magnifiez notre Dieu!
For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4 Il est le Rocher! son œuvre est parfaite; car toutes ses voies sont équité; Dieu fidèle et sans fraude, Il est juste, Il est droit.
The Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice; a God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is He.
5 Elle a forfait envers Lui, perdu par ses vices le rang de ses enfants, la race pervertie et trompeuse.
Is corruption His? No; His children's is the blemish; a generation crooked and perverse.
6 Payez-vous ainsi l'Éternel de retour, peuple insensé et dénué de sagesse? N'est-Il pas ton père, ton créateur? Il t'a formé, et t'a consolidé.
Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not He thy father that hath gotten thee? hath He not made thee, and established thee?
7 Rappelle-toi les jours d'autrefois, étudiez les années de tous les âges! Interroge ton père et il t'instruira, tes Anciens, et ils te parleront.
Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations; ask thy father, and he will declare unto thee, thine elders, and they will tell thee.
8 Quand le Très-Haut assignait leurs lots aux nations, et quand Il séparait les fils d'Adam, alors Il plaça les bornes des Tribus d'après le nombre des fils d'Israël.
When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when He separated the children of men, He set the borders of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel.
9 Car le lot de l'Éternel, c'est son peuple, et Jacob est sa portion d'héritage.
For the portion of the LORD is His people, Jacob the lot of His inheritance.
10 Il le trouva sur le sol de la steppe, au désert des hurlements et de la solitude; alors Il l'entoura et s'occupa de lui, et le garda comme la prunelle de Ses yeux.
He found him in a desert land, and in the waste, a howling wilderness; He compassed him about, He cared for him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.
11 Tel l'aigle fait lever sa couvée, plane autour de ses aiglons, déploie ses ailes et les prend, et les porte sur ses fortes pennes,
As an eagle that stirreth up her nest, hovereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her pinions —
12 ainsi l'Éternel seul le conduisit: Il n'avait pas avec lui de Dieu étranger;
The LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with Him.
13 Il lui fit franchir les hauteurs du pays, et il eut pour aliments les fruits des campagnes; Il l'allaita du miel de la roche, et de l'huile qui vient sur la grève rocailleuse,
He made him ride on the high places of the earth, and he did eat the fruitage of the field; and He made him to suck honey out of the crag, and oil out of the flinty rock;
14 de la crème des génisses, du lait des brebis, avec la graisse des agneaux, et des béliers élevés en Basan, et des boucs, avec la moelle intérieure du froment; et tu bus le vin pur, sang du raisin.
Curd of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and he-goats, with the kidney-fat of wheat; and of the blood of the grape thou drankest foaming wine.
15 Mais le peuple choyé devient gras et rétif; — te voilà engraissé, épaissi, couvert d'embonpoint! — Il quitte Dieu, son créateur, et méprise son Rocher Sauveur!
But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked — thou didst wax fat, thou didst grow thick, thou didst become gross — and he forsook God who made him, and contemned the Rock of his salvation.
16 Ils allumèrent sa jalousie par un culte étranger et le provoquèrent par des abominations.
They roused Him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations did they provoke Him.
17 Ils sacrifièrent à des maîtres: qui ne sont pas Dieu, à des dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient pas, dieux nouveaux, venus du voisinage, que ne redoutaient pas leurs pères.
They sacrificed unto demons, no-gods, gods that they knew not, new gods that came up of late, which your fathers dreaded not.
18 Tu abandonnas le Rocher, auteur de ta naissance, et oublias Dieu qui t'avait enfanté.
Of the Rock that begot thee thou wast unmindful, and didst forget God that bore thee.
19 L'Éternel le vit, et d'indignation Il rejeta ses fils, et ses filles,
And the LORD saw, and spurned, because of the provoking of His sons and His daughters.
20 et dit: Je me cache la face à leur vue: je verrai comment ils finiront; car c'est une race pervertie, des enfants sans foi.
And He said: 'I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end shall be; for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.
21 Ils m'ont rendu jaloux par ce qui n'est pas Dieu, et contristé par leurs vaines idoles: je les rendrai jaloux par ce qui n'est pas un peuple, et les contristerai par une nation insensée.
They have roused Me to jealousy with a no-god; they have provoked Me with their vanities; and I will rouse them to jealousy with a no-people; I will provoke them with a vile nation.
22 Car un feu s'est allumé dans ma colère, et il embrasera jusqu'au fond des Enfers, et dévorera la terre et ses productions, et brûlera les bases des montagnes. (Sheol h7585)
For a fire is kindled in My nostril, and burneth unto the depths of the nether-world, and devoureth the earth with her produce, and setteth ablaze the foundations of the mountains. (Sheol h7585)
23 Je veux accumuler sur eux les maux, et épuiser contre eux mes traits.
I will heap evils upon them; I will spend Mine arrows upon them;
24 Ils seront amaigris par la faim, rongés par la fièvre et par une peste venimeuse, et je lancerai contre eux la dent des bêtes féroces, en même temps que le venin des reptiles de la poudre,
The wasting of hunger, and the devouring of the fiery bolt, and bitter destruction; and the teeth of beasts will I send upon them, with the venom of crawling things of the dust.
25 Au dehors l'épée sévira, et dans les chambres, la terreur sur le jeune homme et la vierge, sur le nourrisson et le vieillard.
Without shall the sword bereave, and in the chambers terror; slaying both young man and virgin, the suckling with the man of gray hairs.
26 Je dirais: je veux les dissiper, éteindre leur mémoire parmi les hommes,
I thought I would make an end of them, I would make their memory cease from among men;
27 si je ne craignais l'insulte des ennemis, la méprise de leurs adversaires, et leurs propos: « C'est notre éminente main et non pas l'Éternel qui a fait toutes ces choses. »
Were it not that I dreaded the enemy's provocation, lest their adversaries should misdeem, lest they should say: Our hand is exalted, and not the LORD hath wrought all this.'
28 C'est un peuple destitué de raison, il y a chez lui défaut d'intelligence.
For they are a nation void of counsel, and there is no understanding in them.
29 S'ils étaient sages, ils y prendraient garde, et seraient attentifs à leur avenir.
If they were wise, they would understand this, they would discern their latter end.
30 Comment est-ce qu'un homme en poursuivrait mille, et deux, en mettraient dix mille en fuite, sinon, parce que leur Rocher les a vendus et que l'Éternel les a livrés?…
How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had given them over and the LORD had delivered them up?
31 Car leur Rocher n'est pas pareil à notre Rocher et nos ennemis en sont juges…
For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
32 C'est que leur vigne provient de la vigne de Sodome et des campagnes de Gomorrhe; leurs raisins sont des raisins vénéneux dont les baies sont amères;
For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter;
33 leur vin, c'est le virus du dragon, et le cruel venin de l'aspic.
Their wine is the venom of serpents, and the cruel poison of asps.
34 Cela n'est-il pas serré par devers moi, scellé dans mes Trésors?
'Is not this laid up in store with Me, sealed up in My treasuries?
35 A moi la vengeance et la rétribution dans le temps où leur pied bronchera! Car le jour de leur ruine approche, et leurs destinées se précipitent.
Vengeance is Mine, and recompense, against the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.
36 Oui, l'Éternel punira son peuple; Mais Il prendra pitié de ses serviteurs, quand Il verra que la force s'est évanouie, et qu'il ne reste plus ni esclave, ni homme libre.
For the LORD will judge His people, and repent Himself for His servants; when He seeth that their stay is gone, and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.
37 Alors Il dira: Où sont leurs dieux, ce rocher dans lequel ils avaient confiance,
And it is said: Where are their gods, the rock in whom they trusted;
38 qui mangeaient la graisse de leurs victimes, et buvaient le vin de leurs libations? Qu'ils se lèvent pour vous secourir, que ce rocher soit votre refuge!
Who did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink-offering? let him rise up and help you, let him be your protection.
39 Voyez donc que c'est Moi, Moi qui le suis, et qu'il n'est aucun Dieu avec moi. Je donne et la mort et la vie; je brise et je guéris: et nul ne sauve de ma main.
See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god with Me; I kill, and I make alive; I have wounded, and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of My hand.
40 Car je lève ma main vers le Ciel et je dis: Aussi vrai que je vis éternellement,
For I lift up My hand to heaven, and say: As I live for ever,
41 quand j'aurai aiguisé le foudre de mon glaive et que ma main s'armera du jugement, je reverserai la vengeance sur mes ennemis, et le salaire sur ceux qui me haïssent;
If I whet My glittering sword, and My hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to Mine adversaries, and will recompense them that hate Me.
42 j'enivrerai mes flèches de sang, et mon glaive se repaîtra de chair, du sang des blessés et des captifs, de la tête des princes ennemis.
I will make Mine arrows drunk with blood, and My sword shall devour flesh; with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the long-haired heads of the enemy.'
43 Triomphez, ô Tribus, vous, son peuple! Car Il venge le sang de ses serviteurs, Il reverse la vengeance sur ses ennemis et Il fait la propitiation pour son pays, pour son peuple.
Sing aloud, O ye nations, of His people; for He doth avenge the blood of His servants, and doth render vengeance to His adversaries, and doth make expiation for the land of His people.
44 Et Moïse étant venu prononça toutes les paroles de ce cantique aux oreilles du peuple, lui et Josué, fils de Nun.
And Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.
45 Et Moïse ayant achevé tous ses discours adressés à tout Israël,
And when Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel,
46 leur dit: Prenez à cœur toutes les sommations que je vous fais en ce jour pour les intimer à vos fils afin qu'ils s'appliquent à garder tous les préceptes de cette Loi.
he said unto them: 'Set your heart unto all the words wherewith I testify against you this day; that ye may charge your children therewith to observe to do all the words of this law.
47 Car ce n'est pas pour vous une parole vaine puisqu'elle est votre vie, et par le moyen de cette parole vous prolongerez vos jours dans le pays dont après le passage du Jourdain vous allez faire la conquête.
For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing ye shall prolong your days upon the land, whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.'
48 Et ce jour même l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
And the LORD spoke unto Moses that selfsame day, saying:
49 Monte sur cette montagne d'Abarim, au mont Nébo qui est dans le pays de Moab vis-à-vis de Jéricho, et regarde le pays de Canaan que je vais donner en propriété aux enfants d'Israël.
'Get thee up into this mountain of Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession;
50 Et tu mourras sur la montagne où tu vas monter, et tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple, de même que Aaron, ton frère, est mort au mont Hor et a été recueilli auprès de son peuple,
and die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people.
51 parce que vous m'avez manqué au milieu des enfants d'Israël, aux Eaux de la Querelle en Cadès, dans le désert de Tsin, en ne manifestant pas ma sainteté au milieu des enfants d'Israël.
Because ye trespassed against Me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribath-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified Me not in the midst of the children of Israel.
52 Car devant toi tu verras le pays, mais tu n'y entreras pas, dans ce pays que je vais donner aux enfants d'Israël.
For thou shalt see the land afar off; but thou shalt not go thither into the land which I give the children of Israel.'
