Deutéronome 3

1 Et étant partis nous montâmes du côté de Basan; alors vint à notre rencontre Og, Roi de Basan, lui et tout son peuple pour nous attaquer à Edrei.

Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

2 Et l'Éternel me dit: Ne le redoute pas, car je livre entre tes mains, et lui et tout son peuple et son pays, et tu le traiteras comme tu as traité Sihon, Roi des Amoréens, qui résidait à Hesbon.

And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

3 L'Éternel, notre Dieu, livra, donc aussi entre nos mains Og, Roi de Basan, et tout son peuple, et nous le battîmes jusqu'à ne lui laisser aucun réchappé.

So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

4 Et en même temps nous prîmes toutes ses villes; il n'y eut pas une place que nous ne leur enlevâmes, soixante villes, tout le canton d'Argob, royaume de Og en Basan.

And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5 Toutes ces villes, à l'exception des villes rurales, très nombreuses, étaient munies de hautes murailles, de portes et de barres.

All these cities [were] fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.

6 Et nous les dévouâmes, comme nous l'avions fait à Sihon, Roi de Hesbon, dévouant toutes villes, hommes, femmes et enfants.

And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.

7 Mais nous fîmes notre butin de la totalité du bétail et des dépouilles des villes.

But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

8 C'est ainsi qu'en ce temps-là nous conquîmes le pays sur les deux rois des Amoréens au delà du Jourdain depuis le torrent de l'Arnon jusqu'au mont Hermon

And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that [was] on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;

9 (les Sidoniens donnent à l'Hermon le nom de Sirion et les Amoréens celui de Sénir),

([Which] Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir; )

10 toutes les villes de la plaine, et tout Galaad et tout Basan jusqu'à Salcha et Edrei, villes du royaume de Og en Basan.

All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

11 (Og, Roi de Basan, était le seul survivant du reste des géants; voici, son lit, lit de fer, n'est-il pas à Rabba dans le pays des fils d'Ammon, ayant neuf coudées de longueur et quatre coudées de largeur, coudée d'homme?)

For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead [was] a bedstead of iron; [is] it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits [was] the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

12 Et dans ce temps-là nous conquîmes ce pays depuis Aroër sur l'Arnon. Et la moitié de la montagne de Galaad avec ses villes, je la donnai aux Rubénites et. aux Gadites;

And this land, [which] we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which [is] by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 et le reste de Galaad et tout Basan, royaume de Og, je le donnai à la demi-Tribu de Manassé, tout le canton d'Argob, Basan tout entier; c'est ce qui s'appelle le pays des géants.

And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, [being] the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.

14 Jaïr, fils de Manassé, conquit tout le canton d'Argob jusqu'aux frontières des Gesurites et des Maachathites, et il y donna, à Basan, d'après son nom, le nom de bourgs de Jaïr, jusqu'aujourd'hui.

Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day.

15 Et à Machir je donnai Galaad.

And I gave Gilead unto Machir.

16 Et aux Rubénites et aux Gadites, je donnai une partie de Galaad et jusqu'au torrent de l'Arnon, ce qui est en dedans du torrent et le territoire adjacent, jusqu'au Jabbok, torrent frontière des fils d'Ammon,

And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, [which is] the border of the children of Ammon;

17 et la plaine et le Jourdain et le territoire adjacent depuis Kinnéreth jusqu'à la mer de la plaine, la Mer-Salée, au pied du Pisga, à l'Orient.

The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast [thereof], from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, [even] the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward.

18 En ce temps-là je vous donnai ce commandement: L'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a livré ce pays pour le conquérir. Il faut que vous, tout ce que vous avez de guerriers, vous marchiez armés en tête de vos frères, les fils d'Israël.

And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all [that are] meet for the war.

19 Vos femmes, vos enfants et vos troupeaux seuls (je sais que vous avez de nombreux troupeaux) resteront dans vos villes que je vous ai données,

But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, ([for] I know that ye have much cattle, ) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;

20 jusqu'à ce que l'Éternel ait accordé à vos frères le repos comme à vous, et qu'eux aussi aient conquis le pays que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, leur donne au delà du Jourdain; alors vous pourrez chacun de vous revenir dans votre conquête que je vous ai donnée.

Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and [until] they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and [then] shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.

21 Et dans ce temps je donnai mes instructions à Josué en ces termes: Tes yeux ont vu tout ce que l'Éternel, votre Dieu, a fait à ces deux Rois: ainsi fera l'Éternel à tous les royaumes que tu vas envahir.

And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.

22 Ne les redoutez pas, car l'Éternel, votre Dieu, lui-même combattra pour vous.

Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

23 Et dans ce même temps je fis à l'Éternel cette supplication:

And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24 Seigneur, Éternel, tu as commencé à montrer à ton serviteur ta majesté et ta main puissante; car où est dans les Cieux et sur la terre un Dieu qui fasse rien de pareil à tes œuvres et à tes exploits?

O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God [is there] in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

25 Oh! permets aussi que je passe et que je voie ce beau pays de l'autre côté du Jourdain, ces belles montagnes et le Liban!

I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that [is] beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26 Mais l'Éternel se courrouça contre moi à cause de vous, et Il ne m'exauça pas, et l'Éternel me dit: C'est assez! ne me parle plus de cette affaire.

But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

27 Monte au sommet du Pisga, puis porte tes regards à l'occident et au septentrion et au midi et à l'orient, et contemple de tes yeux; car tu ne passeras pas ce Jourdain.

Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold [it] with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

28 Et laisse tes instructions à Josué, affermis et fortifie-le; car c'est lui qui marchera à la tête de ce peuple, et qui leur partagera le pays que tu verras.

But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

29 Nous demeurâmes donc dans la vallée vis-à-vis de Beth-Pehor.

So we abode in the valley over against Beth-peor.
