Deutéronome 29
1 Voici les termes de l'alliance que l'Éternel ordonna à Moïse de conclure avec les enfants d'Israël dans le pays de Moab, outre l'alliance qu'il avait conclue avec eux en Horeb.
These are the wordes of the couenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the lande of Moab beside the couenant which hee had made with them in Horeb.
2 Et Moïse convoqua tous les Israélites et il leur dit: Vous avez vu tout ce qu'a fait l'Éternel sous tes yeux dans le pays d'Egypte à Pharaon et à tous ses serviteurs et à tout son pays,
And Moses called all Israel, and said vnto them, Ye haue seene all that the Lord did before your eyes in the lande of Egypt vnto Pharaoh and vnto all his seruantes, and vnto all his lande,
3 les grandes épreuves que vos yeux ont vues, ces grands signes et prodiges.
The great tentations which thine eyes haue seene, those great miracles and wonders:
4 Mais jusques aujourd'hui l'Éternel ne vous a pas donné un cœur pour sentir, des yeux pour voir, des oreilles pour entendre.
Yet the Lord hath not giuen you an heart to perceiue, and eyes to see, and eares to heare, vnto this day.
5 Et pendant quarante ans, je vous ai conduits dans le désert; vos habits ne se sont point usés sur vous, ni vos sandales à vos pieds;
And I haue led you fourty yere in the wildernesse: your clothes are not waxed olde vpon you, neyther is thy shooe waxed olde vpon thy foote.
6 vous n'avez pas mangé de pain et n'avez bu ni vin ni cervoise, afin que vous comprissiez que moi, l'Éternel, je suis votre Dieu.
Ye haue eaten no bread, neither drunke wine, nor strong drinke, that ye might know how that I am the Lord your God.
7 Et vous êtes arrivés en ce lieu. Alors, Sihon, roi de Hesbon, et Og, roi de Basan, se sont avancés contre nous pour nous attaquer, et nous les avons battus.
After, ye came vnto this place, and Sihon King of Heshbon, and Og King of Bashan came out against vs vnto battell, and we slewe them,
8 Et nous nous sommes emparés de leur pays et l'avons donné en propriété aux Rubénites, et aux Gadites et à la demi-Tribu de Manassé.
And tooke their lande, and gaue it for an inheritance vnto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the halfe tribe of Manasseh.
9 Gardez donc les paroles de cette alliance, et pratiquez-les, afin de réussir dans tout ce que vous entreprendrez.
Keepe therefore the wordes of this couenant and doe them, that ye may prosper in all that ye shall doe.
10 Vous voilà comparaissant aujourd'hui tous devant l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vos Chefs, vos Tribus, vos Anciens et vos Officiers, tous les hommes d'Israël,
Ye stand this day euery one of you before the Lord your God: your heads of your tribes, your Elders and your officers, eue al ye me of Israel:
11 vos enfants, vos femmes et ton étranger qui est dans ton camp, depuis celui qui coupe ton bois à celui qui puise ton eau,
Your children, your wiues, and thy stranger that is in thy campe from the hewer of thy wood, vnto the drawer of thy water,
12 pour passer dans l'alliance de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et sous sa sanction que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, solennise avec toi en ce jour,
That thou shouldest passe into the couenant of the Lord thy God, and into his othe which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day,
13 pour te constituer aujourd'hui son peuple tandis qu'il sera ton Dieu, comme Il te l'a promis, et comme Il en a fait le serment à tes pères, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
For to establish thee this day a people vnto him selfe, and that he may be vnto thee a God, as he hath said vnto thee, and as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers, Abraham, Izhak, and Iaakob.
14 Et ce n'est pas avec vous seuls que je conclus cette alliance et ce pacte juré,
Neither make I this couenant, and this othe with you onely,
15 c'est avec ceux qui sont ici aujourd'hui comparaissant avec nous devant l'Éternel, notre Dieu, et avec ceux qui ne sont pas ici avec nous aujourd'hui.
But aswel with him that standeth here with vs this day before the Lord our God, as with him that is not here with vs this day.
16 Car vous savez comment nous avons séjourné dans le pays d'Egypte, et comment nous avons passé au milieu des nations que vous avez traversées;
For ye knowe, how we haue dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we passed thorowe the middes of the nations, which ye passed by.
17 et vous avez vu les horreurs de leur culte, et leurs idoles de bois et de pierre, d'argent et d'or qui étaient chez eux.
And ye haue seene their abominations and their idoles (wood, and stone, siluer and golde) which were among them,
18 Ayez peur qu'il y ait parmi vous homme ou femme ou famille ou Tribu dont le cœur se détourne aujourd'hui de l'Éternel, notre Dieu, pour aller se mettre au service des dieux de ces nations-là; ayez peur qu'il y ait chez vous quelque racine produisant poison ou absinthe!
That there should not be among you man nor woman, nor familie, nor tribe, which should turne his heart away this day from the Lord our God, to goe and serue the gods of these nations, and that there shoulde not be among you any roote that bringeth forth gall and wormewood,
19 Et dans le cas où, à l'ouïe des termes de cette sanction, quelqu'un se promettrait en son cœur un sort heureux, en disant: Je serai sain et sauf quoique je veuille marcher suivant la malice de mon cœur et en amenant ainsi la ruine du sol abreuvé et du sol altéré,
So that when he heareth the words of this curse, he blesse him selfe in his heart, saying, I shall haue peace, although I walke according to the stubburnes of mine owne heart, thus adding drunkennesse to thirst.
20 l'Éternel ne voudra pas lui pardonner; mais pour lors le courroux de l'Éternel et sa jalousie s'allumeront contre cet homme-là, et sur lui reposera toute la malédiction consignée dans ce livre-ci, et l'Éternel effacera son nom de dessous les Cieux,
The Lord will not be mercifull vnto him, but then the wrath of the Lord and his ielousie shall smoke against that man, and euery curse that is written in this booke, shall light vpon him, and the Lord shall put out his name from vnder heauen,
21 et l'Éternel le séparera, pour le perdre, de toutes les Tribus d'Israël, suivant toutes les malédictions de l'alliance transcrites dans ce volume de la Loi.
And the Lord shall separate him vnto euil out of all the tribes of Israel, according vnto all the curses of the couenant, that is written in the booke of this Lawe.
22 Et la génération suivante, vos fils qui s'élèveront après vous, et l'étranger venu d'un pays lointain, diront à la vue du désastre de ce pays et des maux que lui aura infligés l'Éternel,
So that the generatio to come, euen your children, that shall rise vp after you, and the stranger, that shall come from a farre lande, shall say, when they shall see the plagues of this lande, and the diseases thereof, wherewith the Lord shall smite it:
23 du soufre et du sel et de l'embrasement de tout son sol qui ne sera plus ensemencé, ne produira plus, où nulle plante ne croîtra, d'un bouleversement pareil à celui de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, d'Adema et de Tseboïm que l'Éternel bouleversa dans sa colère et sa fureur;
(For all that land shall burne with brimstone and salt: it shall not be sowen, nor bring forth, nor any grasse shall growe therein, like as in the ouerthrowing of Sodom, and Gomorah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the Lord ouerthrewe in his wrath and in his anger)
24 tous les peuples demanderont: Pourquoi l'Éternel a-t-Il ainsi traité ce pays-là? pourquoi l'embrasement de cette grande colère?
Then shall all nations say, Wherefore hath the Lord done thus vnto this lande? how fierce is this great wrath?
25 Et l'on répondra: Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance de l'Éternel, Dieu de leurs pères, qu'il avait conclue avec eux, lorsqu'il les retira du pays d'Egypte,
And they shall answere, Because they haue forsaken the couenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which he had made with them, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
26 et ils sont allés se mettre au service d'autres dieux et les adorer, dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient pas, et qu'il ne leur avait pas donnés en partage;
And went and serued other gods and worshipped them: euen gods which they knewe not, and which had giuen them nothing,
27 c'est alors que la colère de l'Éternel s'est allumée contre ce pays pour faire fondre sur lui toutes les malédictions consignées dans ce livre,
Therefore the wrath of the Lord waxed hot against this land, to bring vpon it euery curse that is written in this booke.
28 et l'Éternel les a arrachés de leur pays avec courroux, colère et grande irritation et les a jetés dans un autre pays [comme il arrive] aujourd'hui.
And ye Lord hath rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and hath cast them into another land, as appeareth this day.
29 Les choses cachées sont à l'Éternel, notre Dieu, mais les choses révélées sont à nous et à nos enfants à perpétuité pour que nous mettions en pratique toutes les paroles de cette Loi.
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things reueiled belong vnto vs, and to our children for euer, that we may doe all the wordes of this Lawe.
