Deutéronome 25
1 S'il s'élève un différend entre des hommes, ils se présenteront au Tribunal, pour qu'on les juge, et que l'on déclare innocent l'innocent, et coupable le coupable.
When there shall be strife betweene men, and they shall come vnto iudgement, and sentence shall be giuen vpon them, and the righteous shall be iustified, and the wicked condemned,
2 Et si le coupable mérite des coups, le Juge le fera étendre par terre et battre sous ses yeux d'un nombre de coups suffisant en raison de sa culpabilité.
Then if so be the wicked be worthy to bee beaten, the iudge shall cause him to lie downe, and to be beaten before his face, according to his trespasse, vnto a certaine nomber.
3 Il lui fera donner quarante coups, pas plus, de peur que s'il y fait ajouter des coups en grand nombre, ton frère ne soit avili devant toi.
Fortie stripes shall he cause him to haue and not past, lest if he should exceede and beate him aboue that with many stripes, thy brother should appeare despised in thy sight.
4 Tu n'emmusèleras pas le bœuf, quand il foule le grain.
Thou shalt not mousell the oxe that treadeth out the corne.
5 Si des frères demeurent dans un même lieu, ou que l'un d'eux meure sans laisser de fils, la femme du frère mort ne se mariera point au dehors à un étranger; son beau-frère s'approchera d'elle, et la prendra pour sa femme, et remplira envers elle le devoir du beau-frère.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them dye and haue no sonne, the wife of the dead shall not marry without: that is, vnto a stranger, but his kinseman shall goe in vnto her, and take her to wife, and doe the kinsemans office to her.
6 Et ce cas échéant, le premier-né qu'elle enfantera, succédera au nom du frère défunt, afin que son nom ne disparaisse pas d'Israël.
And the first borne which she beareth, shall succeede in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.
7 Mais si l'homme ne se soucie pas d'épouser sa belle-sœur, sa belle-sœur se présentera, à la Porte devant les Anciens et dira: Mon beau-frère se refuse à faire revivre le nom de son frère en Israël; il ne veut pas remplir envers moi le devoir du Lévirat.
And if the man will not take his kinsewoman, then let his kinsewoman goe vp to the gate vnto the Elders, and say, My kinsman refuseth to rayse vp vnto his brother a name in Israel: hee will not doe the office of a kinsman vnto me.
8 Alors les Anciens de sa ville le citeront, et ils lui parleront;
Then the Elders of his citie shall call him, and commune with him: if he stand and say, I wil not take her,
9 et s'il persiste et dit: Je ne me soucie pas de l'épouser; sa belle-sœur s'avancera, vers lui, devant les yeux des Anciens, et lui détachera sa sandale du pied, et crachera en face de lui; puis prenant la parole elle dira: Ainsi soit fait à l'homme qui n'édifie pas la maison de son frère.
Then shall his kinswoman come vnto him in the presence of the Elders, and loose his shooe from his foote, and spit in his face, and answere, and say, So shall it be done vnto that man, that will not buylde vp his brothers house.
10 Et en Israël on le désignera de ce nom: Maison du déchaussé.
And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him whose shooe is put off.
11 Si des hommes ont entre eux une rixe, l'un avec l'autre, et que la femme de l'un accoure pour tirer son mari des mains de celui qui le bat, et qu'étendant la main elle saisisse celui-ci par les parties honteuses,
When men striue together, one with another, if the wife of the one come neere, for to ridde her husband out of the handes of him that smiteth him, and put foorth her hand, and take him by his priuities,
12 coupe-lui la main, et cela sans pitié.
Then thou shalt cut off her hande: thine eye shall not spare her.
13 Tu n'auras pas dans ta bourse double pierre à peser, une grosse et une petite.
Thou shalt not haue in thy bagge two maner of weightes, a great and a small,
14 Tu n'auras pas dans ta maison double épha, un grand et un petit.
Neither shalt thou haue in thine house diuers measures, a great and a small:
15 Aie des pierres d'un poids complet et juste, et un épha d'une capacité complète et juste, afin que tes jours se prolongent dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne.
But thou shalt haue a right and iust weight: a perfite and a iust measure shalt thou haue, that thy dayes may be lengthened in the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee.
16 Car quiconque le fait, quiconque fraude, est l'abomination de l'Éternel.
For all that doe such things, and all that doe vnrighteously, are abomination vnto the Lord thy God.
17 Rappelle-toi ce que t'a fait Amalek pendant le trajet lors de votre sortie d'Egypte,
Remember what Amalek did vnto thee by the way, when ye were come out of Egypt:
18 comment il t'a attaqué sur la route, est tombé sur ton arrière-garde, sur toute la troupe débile qui se traînait après toi, toi-même étant épuisé et las, et comment il n'eut aucune crainte de Dieu.
How he met thee by ye way, and smote ye hindmost of you, all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast fainted and weary, and he feared not God.
19 Et lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'aura donné le repos et t'aura débarrassé de tous les ennemis de tes alentours dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne en propriété pour le conquérir, tu mettras fin à la mémoire d'Amalek sous les Cieux. Ne l'oublie pas.
Therefore, when the Lord thy God hath giuen thee rest from all thine enemies round about in the land, which the Lord thy God giueth thee for an inheritance to possesse it, then thou shalt put out the remembrance of Amalek from vnder heauen: forget not.
