Deutéronome 13

1 S'il s'élève au milieu de vous quelque prophète ou songeur, et s'il t'annonce un signe ou un prodige

IF there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

2 et qu'arrive le signe ou le prodige dont il te parlait tout en te disant: Suivons d'autres dieux (que tu ne connais pas) et servons-les!

And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

3 tu ne prêteras point l'oreille aux discours de ce prophète-là ou de ce songeur; car l'Éternel, votre Dieu, veut vous mettre à l'épreuve pour savoir si vous aimez l'Éternel, votre Dieu, de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

4 C'est l'Éternel, votre Dieu, que vous devez suivre, Lui que vous devez craindre, ses commandements que vous devez garder, et sa voix que vous devez écouter, et Lui que vous devez servir, et à Lui que vous devez vous attacher.

Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

5 Ce prophète ou ce songeur-là sera mis à mort, parce qu'il a prêché la rébellion contre l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous a retirés du pays d'Egypte et rachetés de la maison de servitude; afin de te faire dévier de la voie dans laquelle t'a ordonné de marcher l'Éternel, ton Dieu: ainsi vous ôterez le mal du milieu de vous.

And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the Lord thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

6 Si ton frère, fils de ta mère, ou ton fils ou ta fille, ou la femme, qui est entre tes bras, ou ton ami, qui est comme un autre toi-même, t'incite secrètement en disant: Allons et servons d'autres dieux (qui ne furent connus ni de toi ni de tes pères,

If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

7 l'un des dieux des peuples de vos alentours, rapprochés ou éloignés de toi, d'un bout de la terre à l'autre),

Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

8 tu ne lui donneras pas ton assentiment, et ne l'écouteras pas; tu n'auras pour lui ni pitié, ni miséricorde, et tu ne le mettras pas à couvert;

Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

9 mais tu le feras mourir, ta main se lèvera la première sur lui pour lui donner la mort, et la main de tout le peuple ensuite,

But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

10 et tu le lapideras à coups de pierres pour qu'il meure, parce qu'il a cherché à te détacher de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'a retiré du pays d'Egypte et de la maison de servitude;

And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

11 et que tout Israël entende et craigne, pour ne pas répéter un acte aussi criminel au milieu de toi.

And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

12 Si tu entends dire de l'une de tes villes que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a données pour y habiter:

If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the Lord thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,

13 Des hommes perdus, sortis du milieu de toi, ont séduit les habitants de leur ville en disant: Allons et servons d'autres dieux (que vous ne connaissez pas),

Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

14 fais des perquisitions, des enquêtes, des interrogatoires exacts; et si voilà que c'est un fait avéré, si la chose est constatée, si cette abomination s'est commise dans ton sein,

Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;

15 passe au fil de l'épée les habitants de cette ville-là; tu la dévoueras ainsi que tout ce qu'elle renferme et ses bestiaux, avec le tranchant de l'épée.

Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

16 Et tu réuniras toutes ses dépouilles au milieu de sa place, et tu brûleras au feu la ville et toutes ses dépouilles en holocauste à l'Éternel, ton Dieu; et elle restera ruine éternelle: elle ne sera point rebâtie.

And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

17 Et que rien de ce qui a été dévoué ne reste attaché à ta main, afin que l'Éternel revienne de son ardente colère, et te fasse miséricorde et ait pitié de toi, et te multiplie, comme Il l'a juré à tes pères,

And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

18 si tu obéis à la voix de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, en gardant tous ses commandements que je te prescris en ce jour, en faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.
