Daniel 6
1 Il parut convenable à Darius de préposer à l'empire cent vingt satrapes répartis dans tout l'empire,
It pleased Darius to set ouer the kingdome an hundreth and twentie gouernours, which should be ouer the whole kingdome,
2 et à ceux-ci trois princes dont Daniel fut l'un, et auxquels ces satrapes devaient rendre compte, afin que le roi ne souffrît aucun dommage.
And ouer these, three rulers (of whome Daniel was one) that the gouernours might giue accompts vnto them, and the King should haue no domage.
3 Bientôt ce Daniel l'emporta sur les princes et sur les satrapes, parce qu'il avait un esprit éminent, et le roi pensait à le préposer à tout l'empire.
Now this Daniel was preferred aboue the rulers and gouernours, because the spirit was excellent in him, and the King thought to set him ouer the whole realme.
4 Alors les princes et les satrapes cherchèrent à trouver contre Daniel un prétexte dans l'exercice de sa charge; mais ils ne purent trouver ni prétexte, ni malversation, parce qu'il était fidèle, et qu'on ne découvrit en lui ni délit, ni malversation.
Wherefore the rulers and gouernours sought an occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdome: but they could finde none occasion nor fault: for he was so faithfull that there was no blame nor fault found in him.
5 Alors ces hommes dirent: Nous ne trouverons aucun prétexte contre ce Daniel, à moins que nous n'en trouvions un contre lui dans sa piété envers son Dieu.
Then sayd these men, We shall not finde an occasion against this Daniel, except we finde it against him concerning the Law of his God.
6 Alors ces princes et ces satrapes accoururent tumultuairement auprès du roi, et lui parlèrent ainsi: Roi Darius, puisses-tu vivre éternellement!
Therefore the rulers and these gouernours went together to the King, and sayde thus vnto him, King Darius, liue for euer.
7 Tous les princes de l'empire, les préfets et les satrapes, les conseillers et les gouverneurs sont d'avis qu'un statut royal soit dressé et une défense sanctionnée, portant que quiconque dans l'espace de trente jours adressera une requête à un dieu, ou à un homme quelconque autre que toi, ô roi, sera jeté dans la fosse aux lions.
All the rulers of thy kingdome, the officers and gouernours, the counsellers, and dukes haue consulted together to make a decree for the King and to establish a statute, that whosoeuer shall aske a petition of any god or man for thirtie dayes saue of thee, O King, he shalbe cast into the denne of lyons.
8 Maintenant, ô roi, sanctionne la défense, et rends par écrit un édit, irrévocable selon la loi des Mèdes et des Perses laquelle ne s'abroge point.
Nowe, O King, confirme the decree, and seale the writing, that it be not changed according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9 Ensuite de cela le roi Darius rendit par écrit l'édit et la défense.
Wherefore King Darius sealed the writing and the decree.
10 Or Daniel, apprenant la rédaction de l'édit, se retira dans sa maison (il avait les fenêtres ouvertes dans son appartement supérieur dans la direction de Jérusalem), et trois fois le jour il s'agenouilla et pria, et loua son Dieu, comme il le faisait auparavant.
Now when Daniel vnderstood that he had sealed the writing, hee went into his house, and his window being open in his chamber toward Ierusalem, he kneeled vpon his knees three times a day, and prayed and praysed his God, as he did aforetime.
11 Alors ces hommes accoururent chez lui tumultuairement, et trouvèrent Daniel en prières et en oraison devant son Dieu.
Then these men assembled, and founde Daniel praying, and making supplication vnto his God.
12 Puis ils s'approchèrent du roi, et devant lui ils parlèrent de la défense faite par le roi: N'as-tu pas dit dans une défense écrite que quiconque dans l'espace de trente jours adresserait une requête à un dieu, ou à un homme quelconque autre que toi, ô roi, serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions? Le roi répondit et dit: Cela est arrêté d'après la loi des Mèdes et des Perses qui ne s'abroge pas.
So they came and, spake vnto the King concerning the Kings decree, Hast thou not sealed the decree, that euery man that shall make a request to any god or man within thirtie dayes, saue to thee, O King, shall be cast into the denne of lyons? The King answered, and sayd, The thing is true, according to the Lawe of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13 Alors ils répondirent et dirent au roi: Daniel, l'un des captifs de Juda, n'a tenu aucun compte de toi, ô roi, ni de la défense écrite émise par toi, et trois fois le jour il fait sa prière.
Then answered they, and sayd vnto the King, This Daniel which is of the children of the captiuitie of Iudah, regardeth not thee, O King, nor the decree, that thou hast sealed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14 A l'ouïe de ce discours le roi éprouva un grand chagrin, et il prit à cœur de sauver Daniel, et jusqu'au coucher du soleil il travailla à le délivrer.
When the King heard these wordes, hee was sore displeased with himselfe, and set his heart on Daniel, to deliuer him: and he laboured till the sunne went downe, to deliuer him.
15 Alors ces hommes accoururent tumultuairement chez le roi, et dirent au roi: Sache, ô roi, que les Mèdes et les Perses ont une loi en vertu de laquelle aucune défense ni aucun statut dressé par le roi ne peut être révoqué.
Then these men assembled vnto the King, and sayde vnto ye King, Vnderstand, O King, that the lawe of the Medes and Persians is, that no decree nor statute which the King confirmeth, may be altered.
16 Alors, sur l'ordre du roi, Daniel fut amené et jeté dans la fosse aux lions. Le roi prit la parole, et dit à Daniel: Puisse ton Dieu que tu sers avec constance, te délivrer!
Then the King commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the denne of lyons: now the King spake, and said vnto Daniel, Thy God, whome thou alway seruest, euen he will deliuer thee.
17 Et une pierre fut apportée et posée sur l'ouverture de la fosse, et le roi y apposa le sceau de son anneau et de l'anneau de ses grands, afin que rien ne fût changé par rapport à Daniel.
And a stone was brought, and layed vpon the mouth of the denne, and the King sealed it with his owne signet, and with the signet of his princes, that the purpose might not be changed, concerning Daniel.
18 Là-dessus le roi se retira dans son palais, et il passa la nuit en jeûne, et n'admit point ses concubines auprès de lui, et son sommeil s'enfuit loin de lui.
Then the King went vnto his palace, and remained fasting, neither were the instruments of musike brought before him, and his sleepe went from him.
19 Puis le roi se leva avec l'aurore, avec le jour, et se rendit en hâte à la fosse aux lions.
Then the King arose early in the morning, and went in all haste vnto the denne of lyons.
20 Et en s'approchant de la fosse, il appelait Daniel d'une voix douloureuse; le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel: Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, ton Dieu que tu sers avec constance, a-t-Il pu te délivrer des lions?
And when he came to the denne, he cryed with a lamentable voyce vnto Daniel: and the King spake, and saide to Daniel, O Daniel, the seruant of ye liuing God, is not thy God (whom thou alway seruest) able to deliuer thee from the lyons?
21 Alors Daniel adressa au roi ces paroles: O roi, puisses-tu vivre éternellement!
Then saide Daniel vnto the King, O King, liue for euer.
22 Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange, et fermé la gueule des lions qui ne m'ont fait aucun mal, parce que devant Lui j'ai été trouvé innocent, et que devant toi aussi, ô roi, je n'ai commis aucun crime.
My God hath sent his Angel and hath shut the lyons mouthes, that they haue not hurt mee: for my iustice was founde out before him: and vnto thee, O King, I haue done no hurt.
23 Alors le roi éprouva une grande joie, et il fit retirer Daniel de la fosse; et Daniel fut retiré de la fosse, et il ne se trouva sur lui pas une blessure, parce qu'il s'était confié dans son Dieu.
Then was the King exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel out of the denne: so Daniel was brought out of the denne, and no maner of hurt was found vpon him, because he beleeued in his God.
24 Et sur l'ordre du roi on amena ces hommes qui avaient accusé Daniel, et on les jeta dans la fosse aux lions, eux, leurs fils et leurs femmes; et ils n'avaient pas encore atteint le fond de la fosse, que les lions s'emparèrent d'eux, et brisèrent tous leurs os.
And by the commandement of the King these me which had accused Daniel, were brought, and were cast into the denne of lions, euen they, their children, and their wiues: and the lyons had the mastry of them, and brake all their bones a pieces, or euer they came at the groud of the denne.
25 Alors le roi Darius écrivit à tous les peuples, aux nations et aux hommes de toute langue qui habitaient sur toute la terre: Que votre prospérité s'augmente!
Afterwarde King Darius wrote, Vnto all people, nations and languages, that dwel in all the world: Peace be multiplied vnto you.
26 De par moi, ordre est donné que dans tout l'empire de ma domination l'on craigne et révère le Dieu de Daniel; car Il est le Dieu vivant, qui subsiste éternellement, et dont l'empire est indestructible, et la domination infinie,
I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdome, men tremble and feare before the God of Daniel: for he is the liuing God, and remayneth for euer: and his kingdome shall not perish, and his dominion shalbe euerlasting.
27 qui sauve et délivre et opère des signes et des miracles au ciel et sur la terre, qui a sauvé Daniel de la griffe des lions.
Hee rescueth and deliuereth, and hee worketh signes and wonders in heauen and in earth, who hath deliuered Daniel from the power of the lyons.
28 Ce Daniel fut donc puissant sous le règne de Darius et sous le règne de Coresch, le Perse.
So this Daniel prospered in the reigne of Darius and in the reigne of Cyrus of Persia.
