Actes 15
1 quelques individus venus de Judée endoctrinaient les frères, en disant: « Si vous ne vous faites circoncire selon le rite de Moïse, vous ne pouvez être sauvés. »
Then some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers: “If you are not circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
2 Mais, comme il en résulta une querelle et une discussion assez vive entre Paul et Barnabas et eux, les frères résolurent que Paul, Barnabas et quelques autres d'entre les leurs monteraient à Jérusalem auprès des apôtres et des anciens pour traiter cette question.
Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had a great dissension and debate with them, the brothers appointed Paul and Barnabas and some others from among the believers to go up to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem to discuss this issue.
3 Après avoir donc été accompagnés par l'église, ils traversèrent la Phénicie et la Samarie en racontant la conversion des Gentils et ils causèrent une grande joie à tous les frères;
After being sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria and brought great joy to all the brothers when they described in detail the conversion of the Gentiles.
4 arrivés à Jérusalem, ils furent reçus par l'église, les apôtres et les anciens, et ils racontèrent tout ce que Dieu avait fait avec eux.
When they arrived in Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church, the apostles, and the elders, and they reported all that God had done through them.
5 Mais quelques membres du parti des pharisiens qui avaient embrassé la foi protestèrent, en disant: « Il faut les circoncire et exiger l'observation de la loi de Moïse. »
But some of the believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees stood up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise the Gentiles and command them to keep the law of Moses.”
6 Et les apôtres et les anciens se réunirent pour examiner ce sujet;
So the apostles and the elders gathered together to consider this matter.
7 mais une vive discussion s'étant engagée, Pierre se leva et leur dit: « Frères, vous savez que dès longtemps Dieu a fait Son choix parmi vous, pour que ce fût par ma bouche que les Gentils entendissent la parole de l'Évangile et qu'ils crussent.
After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among us, that by the words of my mouth the Gentiles would hear the message of the gospel and believe.
8 Et Dieu, qui connaît les cœurs, a témoigné pour eux en leur donnant l'esprit saint comme à nous,
And God, who knows the heart, testified to them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us.
9 et Il n'a fait aucune différence entre nous et eux, ayant purifié leurs cœurs par la foi.
He made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10 Maintenant donc, pourquoi tentez-vous Dieu, dans le but de placer sur le col des disciples un joug que ni nos pères ni nous n'avons pu porter?
Now then, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?
11 Mais c'est par la grâce du seigneur Jésus que nous croyons être sauvés, de la même manière qu'eux, »
On the contrary, we believe that we are saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus in the same way they are.”
12 Or toute l'assemblée garda le silence; et ils entendaient Barnabas et Paul raconter tous les miracles et les prodiges que Dieu avait opérés par leur moyen au milieu des Gentils.
Then the entire assembly fell silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul tell of all the signs and wonders God had performed through them among the Gentiles.
13 Mais, après qu'ils se furent tus, Jacques prit la parole, en disant: « Frères, écoutez-moi:
When they had finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me.
14 Simon vous a raconté comment Dieu a d'abord pris soin de tirer du milieu des Gentils un peuple qui portât Son nom;
Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from among them a people for his name.
15 et avec ce fait s'accordent les paroles des prophètes, selon qu'il est écrit:
The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, just as it is written:
16 « Après cela Je reviendrai et Je rebâtirai le tabernacle de Dieu qui est tombé, et Je rebâtirai ses ruines et Je le relèverai,
‘After this I will return and rebuild the tabernacle of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins and erect it again,
17 afin que le reste des hommes recherche le Seigneur, ainsi que toute les nations auxquelles est donné Mon nom, dit le Seigneur, qui fait ces choses, »
so that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who does all these things.’
All God's works are known to him from long ago. (aiōn g165)
19 C'est pourquoi j'estime qu'il ne faut point importuner ceux des Gentils qui se convertissent à Dieu,
Therefore my judgment is that we not create difficulties for those among the Gentiles who turn to God,
20 mais leur écrire pour qu'ils s'abstiennent des souillures des idoles, et de l'impudicité, et de tout animal étouffé, et du sang;
but that we write to them, telling them to abstain from things defiled by idols, from fornication, from what has been strangled, and from blood.
21 car, dès les temps anciens, Moïse a, dans chaque ville, ses prédicateurs, puisqu'on le lit chaque sabbat dans les synagogues. »
For from generations of old, Moses has had those who preach him in every city, because he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”
22 Alors il parut bon aux apôtres et aux anciens, avec toute l'église, de choisir parmi eux, pour les envoyer à Antioche avec Paul et Barnabas, Judas appelé Barsabbas, et Silas, hommes considérés parmi les frères,
Then it seemed good to the apostles and to the elders, together with the whole church, to send men chosen from among them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, leading men among the brothers,
23 après avoir écrit, pour être remis par eux: « Les apôtres et les anciens, frères, aux frères d'entre les Gentils qui sont à Antioche, et en Syrie, et en Cilicie, salut!
and to send with them this letter they had written: “The apostles, elders, and brothers, to the Gentile brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings.
24 Ayant appris que quelques-uns des nôtres vous ont troublés en vous tenant des discours qui ont bouleversé vos âmes, sans avoir reçu de nous aucun mandat,
Since we have heard that certain men, whom we did not authorize, have gone out from us and troubled you with their words, unsettling your minds by saying that you must be circumcised and keep the law,
25 il nous a paru bon, après nous être réunis tous ensemble, de choisir des représentants pour vous les envoyer avec nos bien-aimés Barnabas et Paul,
it seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to send you men chosen from among us, along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26 ces hommes qui exposent leurs vies pour le nom de notre seigneur Jésus-Christ.
who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 Nous avons donc envoyé Judas et Silas, qui vous diront aussi de bouche les mêmes choses;
Therefore we have sent Judas and Silas, who will tell you the same things in their own words.
28 car il a paru bon à l'esprit saint et à nous de ne vous imposer aucune charge nouvelle, sauf sur ces points-ci, qui sont indispensables:
For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no further burden than these essentials:
29 c'est que vous vous absteniez des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles, et de sang, et d'animaux étouffés, et d'impudicité, toutes choses contre lesquelles vous vous trouverez bien de vous tenir en garde. Portez-vous bien! »
You must abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, from blood, from what has been strangled, and from fornication. If you keep yourselves from these things, you will do well. Farewell.”
30 Eux donc, ayant pris congé, descendirent à Antioche, et, après avoir réuni la multitude, ils remirent la lettre.
So when these men had been sent off, they went to Antioch, and after gathering the congregation together, they delivered the letter.
31 Or, après l'avoir lue, ils furent réjouis de l'encouragement qu'elle renfermait.
When the people read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement.
32 Judas et Silas, qui étaient aussi prophètes, parlèrent longuement aux frères pour les encourager et les fortifier;
Then Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with many words.
33 puis, après être demeurés un certain temps, ils prirent en paix congé des frères pour revenir auprès de ceux qui les avaient envoyés.
After spending some time there, they were sent off to the apostles in peace by the brothers.
34 [Or il parut bon à Silas de demeurer là, et Judas seul partit.]
35 Mais Paul et Barnabas restèrent à Antioche, enseignant et annonçant, avec beaucoup d'autres, la bonne nouvelle de la parole du Seigneur.
But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching, along with many others, the good news of the word of the Lord.
36 Or, au bout de quelques jours, Paul dit à Barnabas: « Retournons visiter les frères dans toutes les villes où nous avons annoncé la parole du seigneur, pour voir dans quel état ils se trouvent. »
After some days had gone by, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit our brothers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.”
37 Or Barnabas voulait prendre aussi avec eux Jean qui est appelé Marc,
Now Barnabas wanted to bring John, who was called Mark.
38 mais Paul croyait convenable de ne point prendre avec eux celui qui s'était détaché d'eux en Pamphylie, et qui ne les avait pas secondés dans leur œuvre.
But Paul thought it best not to bring this man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them in their work.
39 Or, il en résulta de l'irritation, en sorte qu'ils se séparèrent l'un de l'autre, et que Barnabas, prenant Marc avec lui, s'embarqua pour l'île de Chypre.
So there arose a sharp disagreement, with the result that they parted from one another. Barnabas took Mark and sailed off to Cyprus,
40 Paul, de son côté, ayant fait choix de Silas, partit, après avoir été recommandé à la grâce du Seigneur par les frères,
but Paul chose Silas and departed, once he had been committed by the brothers to the grace of God.
41 et il parcourait la Syrie et la Cilicie, en fortifiant les églises;
And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
