Actes 11
1 Cependant les apôtres et les frères qui étaient en Judée apprirent que les Gentils avaient aussi reçu la parole de Dieu,
And the apostles and the brethren who are in Judea heard that also the nations did receive the word of God,
2 et, quand Pierre fut revenu à Jérusalem, les circoncis le querellaient
and when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him,
3 en disant: « Tu es entré chez des hommes incirconcis, et tu as mangé avec eux! »
saying — 'Unto men uncircumcised thou didst go in, and didst eat with them!'
4 Pierre, reprenant dès le début, leur fit un exposé suivi, en disant:
And Peter having begun, did expound to them in order saying,
5 « J'étais en prière dans la ville de Joppé, et je vis en extase une vision, un objet qui descendait comme une grande toile, laquelle était abaissée du ciel par quatre coins, et elle vint jusques à moi;
'I was in the city of Joppa praying, and I saw in a trance a vision, a certain vessel coming down, as a great sheet by four corners being let down out of the heaven, and it came unto me;
6 y ayant jeté les yeux je regardais avec attention, et je vis les quadrupèdes de la terre, et les bêtes féroces, et les reptiles, et les oiseaux du ciel;
at which having looked stedfastly, I was considering, and I saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of heaven;
7 j'entendis aussi une voix qui me disait: « Lève-toi, Pierre, tue et mange. »
and I heard a voice saying to me, Having risen, Peter, slay and eat;
8 Mais je dis: « Point du tout, Seigneur, car rien de ce qui est souillé ou impur n'est jamais entré dans ma bouche. »
and I said, Not so, Lord; because anything common or unclean hath at no time entered into my mouth;
9 Mais une voix du ciel reprit pour la seconde fois: « Ce que Dieu a purifié, ce n'est pas à toi de le tenir pour souillé. »
and a voice did answer me a second time out of the heaven, What God did cleanse, thou — declare not thou common.
10 Et ceci se répéta trois fois, et tout fut de nouveau hissé dans le ciel.
'And this happened thrice, and again was all drawn up to the heaven,
11 Et voici, aussitôt trois hommes se présentèrent devant la maison où nous étions, lesquels étaient envoyés de Césarée vers moi;
and, lo, immediately, three men stood at the house in which I was, having been sent from Caesarea unto me,
12 or l'Esprit me dit de m'aboucher avec eux sans hésiter. Ils repartirent donc avec moi et les six frères que voici, et nous arrivâmes dans la maison du personnage.
and the Spirit said to me to go with them, nothing doubting, and these six brethren also went with me, and we did enter into the house of the man,
13 Il nous informa comment il avait vu dans sa maison l'ange qui s'était présenté à lui et lui avait dit: « Envoie à Joppé, et fais-en venir Simon qui est surnommé Pierre;
he declared also to us how he saw the messenger in his house standing, and saying to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter,
14 il t'adressera des paroles par lesquelles tu seras sauvé, toi et toute ta famille. »
who shall speak sayings by which thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.
15 Or, comme je commençais à parler, l'esprit saint tomba sur eux, ainsi qu'il était aussi tombé sur nous au commencement;
'And in my beginning to speak, the Holy Spirit did fall upon them, even as also upon us in the beginning,
16 et je me rappelai le mot du seigneur, lorsqu'il disait: « Jean a baptisé avec de l'eau, tandis que vous, vous serez baptisés avec l'esprit saint, »
and I remembered the saying of the Lord, how he said, John indeed did baptize with water, and ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit;
17 Puis donc que Dieu leur a fait le même don qu'à nous, pour avoir cru au seigneur Jésus-Christ, comment, moi, eussé-je été capable de m'opposer à Dieu? »
if then the equal gift God did give to them as also to us, having believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, I — how was I able to withstand God?'
18 Après avoir entendu cela, ils se calmèrent, et ils glorifièrent Dieu en disant: « Ainsi donc, Dieu a aussi donné aux Gentils la repentance pour les amener à la vie. »
And they, having heard these things, were silent, and were glorifying God, saying, 'Then, indeed, also to the nations did God give the reformation to life.'
19 Ceux donc qui s'étaient dispersés par suite de la persécution survenue à propos d'Etienne, passèrent jusques en Phénicie, dans l'île de Chypre et à Antioche, n'annonçant la parole à personne qu'aux seuls Juifs.
Those, indeed, therefore, having been scattered abroad, from the tribulation that came after Stephen, went through unto Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none except to Jews only;
20 Toutefois quelques-uns d'entre eux étaient des Cypriotes et des Cyrénéens qui, arrivés à Antioche, s'adressèrent aussi aux Hellénistes en leur annonçant la bonne nouvelle du seigneur Jésus.
and there were certain of them men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who having entered into Antioch, were speaking unto the Hellenists, proclaiming good news — the Lord Jesus,
21 Et la main du Seigneur était avec eux, et un grand nombre de croyants se convertit au Seigneur.
and the hand of the Lord was with them, a great number also, having believed, did turn unto the Lord.
22 Le bruit en vint aux oreilles de l'Église qui était à Jérusalem, et ils envoyèrent Barnabas jusques à Antioche.
And the account was heard in the ears of the assembly that [is] in Jerusalem concerning them, and they sent forth Barnabas to go through unto Antioch,
23 Lorsqu'il y fut arrivé et qu'il eut vu la grâce de Dieu, il fut réjoui, et il les exhortait tous à demeurer fidèles, dans le seigneur, à la résolution qu'ils avaient prise en leur cœur,
who, having come, and having seen the grace of God, was glad, and was exhorting all with purpose of heart to cleave to the Lord,
24 car c'était un homme de bien, et rempli d'esprit saint et de foi. Et une foule considérable fut agrégée.
because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit, and of faith, and a great multitude was added to the Lord.
25 Or il s'en fut à Tarse pour en tirer Saul, et, l'ayant trouvé, il le ramena à Antioche;
And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus, to seek for Saul,
26 et il leur arriva de passer jusques à une année tout entière ensemble dans l'église et d'enseigner une foule considérable; et ce fut à Antioche que, pour la première fois, on donna aux disciples le nom de chrétiens.
and having found him, he brought him to Antioch, and it came to pass that they a whole year did assemble together in the assembly, and taught a great multitude, the disciples also were divinely called first in Antioch Christians.
27 Or, à la même époque des prophètes descendirent de Jérusalem à Antioche;
And in those days there came from Jerusalem prophets to Antioch,
28 et l'un d'eux, nommé Agabus, s'étant levé, il dévoilait par l'Esprit qu'une grande famine devait avoir lieu sur toute la terre, (laquelle eut lieu sous Claude).
and one of them, by name Agabus, having stood up, did signify through the Spirit a great dearth is about to be throughout all the world — which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar —
29 Or, les disciples résolurent d'adresser, chacun selon ses moyens, un secours aux frères qui habitaient la Judée;
and the disciples, according as any one was prospering, determined each of them to send for ministration to the brethren dwelling in Judea,
30 ce qu'ils firent en l'envoyant aux anciens par l'entremise de Barnabas et de Saul.
which also they did, having sent unto the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
