2 Samuel 21
1 Et au temps de David il y eut famine durant trois années consécutives. Et David chercha la face de l'Éternel et l'Éternel dit: Sur Saül et sa maison pèse le sang versé, parce qu'il a fait périr les Gabaonites.
Then there was a famine in the dayes of Dauid, three yeeres together: and Dauid asked counsell of the Lord, and the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloodie house, because hee slewe the Gibeonites.
2 Alors le Roi manda les Gabaonites et leur parla. Or les Gabaonites ne font point partie des enfants d'Israël, mais d'un reste des Amoréens, et les enfants d'Israël s'étaient liés envers eux par un serment; mais Saül cherchait à s'en défaire, dans son: zèle pour les enfants d'Israël et de Juda.
Then ye King called the Gibeonites and said vnto them. (Now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but a remnant of the Amorites, vnto whom ye children of Israel had sworne: but Saul sought to slay them for his zeale toward the children of Israel and Iudah)
3 Et David dit aux Gabaonites: Que puis-je faire pour vous, et par quelle expiation vous donnerai-je lieu de bénir l'héritage de l'Éternel?
And Dauid said vnto the Gibeonites, What shall I doe for you, and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may blesse the inheritance of the Lord?
4 Et les Gabaonites lui dirent: Il n'est pas question pour nous de réclamer argent et or de Saül et de sa maison, et ce n'est pas à nous de faire mourir personne en Israël. Et il dit: Que dites-vous que je dois faire pour vous?
The Gibeonites then answered him, Wee will haue no siluer nor golde of Saul nor of his house, neither for vs shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I doe for you.
5 Et ils dirent au Roi: [Nous en voulons à] l'homme qui nous a perdus et a formé le projet de nous exterminer et de nous empêcher d'exister dans tout le territoire d'Israël;
Then they answered the King, The man that consumed vs and that imagined euill against vs, so that we are destroyed from remaining in any coast of Israel,
6 qu'on nous livre sept hommes d'entre ses fils, et nous les pendrons devant l'Éternel dans Gibea de Saül, l'élu de l'Éternel. Et le Roi dit: Je les livrerai.
Let seuen men of his sonnes be deliuered vnto vs, and we will hang them vp vnto the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, the Lordes chosen. And the King said, I will giue them.
7 Or le Roi épargna Mephiboseth, fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, à cause du serment prêté devant l'Éternel et intervenu entre eux, entre David et Jonathan, fils de Saül.
But the King had compassion on Mephibosheth the sonne of Ionathan the sonne of Saul, because of the Lordes othe, that was betweene them, euen betweene Dauid and Ionathan the sonne of Saul.
8 Et le Roi prit les deux fils de Ritspa, fille d'Aïa, qu'elle avait enfantés à Saül, Armoni et Mephiboseth, et les cinq fils de Merab, fille de Saül, qu'elle avait enfantés à Adriel, fils de Barzillaï, de Mehola,
But the King tooke the two sonnes of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whome shee bare vnto Saul, euen Armoni and Mephibosheth and the fiue sonnes of Michal, the daughter of Saul, whome shee bare to Adriel the sonne of Barzillai the Meholathite.
9 et il les livra aux mains des Gabaonites qui les pendirent sur la montagne devant l'Éternel. Ainsi périrent-ils les sept à la fois; or ils subirent la mort dans les premiers jours de la moisson, au début de la moisson des orges.
And hee deliuered them vnto the handes of the Gibeonites, which hanged them in the mountaine before the Lord: so they died all seuen together, and they were slaine in the time of haruest: in the first dayes, and in the beginning of barly haruest.
10 Alors Ritspa, fille d'Aïa, prit le cilice, et l'étendit sous elle sur le rocher depuis le début de la moisson jusqu'au moment où la pluie du ciel tomba sur les cadavres, et elle ne permettait pas aux oiseaux du ciel de se poser sur les corps pendant le jour, et la nuit elle en écartait les bêtes des champs.
Then Rizpah the daughter of Aiah tooke sackecloth and hanged it vp for her vpon the rocke, from the beginning of haruest, vntill water dropped vpon them from the heauen, and suffered neither the birdes of the aire to light on the by day, nor beasts of the fielde by night.
11 Et l'on informa David de ce qu'avait fait Ritspa, fille d'Aïa, concubine de Saül.
And it was told Dauid, what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah ye concubine of Saul had done.
12 Alors David alla reprendre les os de Saül et les os de Jonathan, son fils, aux maîtres de Jabès en Galaad, qui les avaient dérobés de la place de Bethséan où les Philistins les avaient suspendus le jour où les Philistins avaient battu Saül sur Gilboa.
And Dauid went and tooke the bones of Saul and the bones of Ionathan his sonne from the citizens of Iabesh Gilead, which had stollen them from the streete of Beth-shan, where the Philistims had hanged them, when the Philistims had slaine Saul in Gilboa.
13 Et il transféra de là les os de Saül et les os de Jonathan, son fils, et ils recueillirent aussi les os des pendus,
So hee brought thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Ionathan his sonne, and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.
14 et ils donnèrent la sépulture aux os de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils, dans le pays de Benjamin à Tsela, dans le tombeau de Kis, son père, et ils exécutèrent tous les ordres du Roi. Et là-dessus Dieu se laissa fléchir en faveur du pays.
And the bones of Saul and of Ionathan his sonne buried they in the coutrey of Beniamin in Zelah, in the graue of Kish his father: and when they had perfourmed all that the King had commanded, God was then appeased with the land.
15 Et les Philistins furent encore en guerre avec Israël. Alors David descendit et ses serviteurs avec lui, et ils engagèrent le combat avec les Philistins. Et David éprouvait de la fatigue.
Againe the Philistims had warre with Israel: and Dauid went downe, and his seruants with him, and they fought against the Philistims, and Dauid fainted.
16 Et Jesbibenob, l'un des descendants du Géant (le poids du fer de sa lance était de trois cents sicles d'airain, et il portait à la ceinture une [épée] neuve), parlait de faire tomber David sous ses coups.
Then Ishi-benob which was of the sonnes of Haraphah (the head of whose speare wayed three hundreth shekels of brasse) euen he being girded with a newe sword, thought to haue slaine Dauid.
17 Mais Abisaï, fils de Tseruïa, lui vint en aide et battit le Philistin et le tua. Alors les hommes de David l'adjurèrent en ces termes: Il ne faut plus que tu marches au combat avec nous, car tu ne dois pas éteindre le flambeau d'Israël.
But Abishai the sonne of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistim, and killed him. Then Dauids men sware vnto him, saying, Thou shalt goe no more out with vs to battell, lest thou quench the light of Israel.
18 Et sur ces entrefaites il y eut encore combat à Gob avec les Philistins. Alors Sibchaï, de Husa, battit Saph, qui était l'un des descendants du Géant.
And after this also there was a battell with the Philistims at Gob, then Sibbechai the Hushathite slewe Saph, which was one of ye sonnes of Haraphah.
19 Et il y eut encore combat à Gob avec les Philistins. Alors Elchanan, fils de Jaarei-Orgim, de Bethléhem, battit Goliath, de Gath, et la hampe de sa lance était comme une ensouple de tisserand.
And there was yet another battel in Gob with the Philistims, where Elhanah the sonne of Iaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite slewe Goliath the Gittite: the staffe of whose speare was like a weauers beame.
20 Et il y eut encore combat à Gath. Là était un homme de haute taille, et il avait six doigts aux mains et six orteils aux pieds, vingt-quatre en somme, et lui aussi était un descendant du Géant.
Afterward there was also a battel in Gath, where was a man of a great stature, and had on euerie hand sixe fingers, and on euerie foote sixe toes, foure and twentie in nomber: who was also the sonne of Haraphah.
21 Et il outragea Israël, mais fut battu par Jonathan, fils de Siméa, frère de David.
And when hee reuiled Israel, Ionathan the sonne of Shima the brother of Dauid slewe him.
22 Ces quatre étaient nés au Géant à Gath et ils périrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.
These foure were borne to Haraphah in Gath, and died by the hande of Dauid and by the hands of his seruants.
