1 La douzième année d'Achaz, roi de Juda, Hosée, fils d'Éla, devint roi d'Israël à Samarie, pour neuf ans.
In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah reigned hath Hoshea son of Elah in Samaria, over Israel — nine years,
2 Et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, seulement pas à l'égal des rois d'Israël, ses prédécesseurs.
and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, only, not as the kings of Israel who were before him;
3 Contre lui s'avança Salmanassar, roi d'Assyrie, et Hosée lui fut assujetti, et lui paya un tribut.
against him came up Shalmaneser king of Asshur, and Hoshea is to him a servant, and doth render to him a present.
4 Mais le roi d'Assyrie découvrit une menée chez Hosée, lequel envoyait des messagers à So, roi d'Egypte, et ne payait point le tribut au roi d'Assyrie année par année; c'est pourquoi le roi d'Assyrie le fit prisonnier et le mit aux fers dans un cachot.
And the king of Asshur findeth in Hoshea a conspiracy, in that he hath sent messengers unto So king of Egypt, and hath not caused a present to go up to the king of Asshur, as year by year, and the king of Asshur restraineth him, and bindeth him in a house of restraint.
5 Et le roi d'Assyrie s'avança sur tout le pays, et marcha contre Samarie qu'il assiégea trois ans.
And the king of Asshur goeth up into all the land, and he goeth up to Samaria, and layeth siege against it three years;
6 La neuvième année d'Hosée le roi d'Assyrie prit Samarie et déporta les Israélites en Assyrie, et les établit à Chala et au Chabor, fleuve de Gozan, et dans les villes des Mèdes.
in the ninth year of Hoshea hath the king of Asshur captured Samaria, and removeth Israel to Asshur, and causeth them to dwell in Halah, and in Habor, [by] the river Gozan, and [in] the cities of the Medes.
7 C'est que les enfants d'Israël s'étaient rendus coupables envers l'Éternel, leur Dieu, qui les avait retirés du pays d'Egypte, de dessous la main de Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et qu'ils révérèrent des dieux différents.
And it cometh to pass, because the sons of Israel have sinned against Jehovah their God — who bringeth them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt — and fear other gods,
8 Et ils suivirent les us des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël, et des rois d'Israël qui les avaient institués.
and walk in the statutes of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel that they made;
9 Et les enfants d'Israël firent parade de choses qui ne sont pas bien, en opposition à l'Éternel, leur Dieu, et s'élevèrent des tertres dans toutes leurs villes, depuis les tours d'observation aux places fortes.
and the sons of Israel do covertly things that [are] not right against Jehovah their God, and build for them high places in all their cities, from a tower of the watchers unto the fenced city,
10 Et ils se dressèrent des colonnes et des Astartés sur toute colline éminente, et sous tout arbre vert.
and set up for them standing-pillars and shrines on every high height, and under every green tree,
11 Et là ils offrirent l'encens sur tous les tertres comme les nations que l'Éternel avait exilées devant eux, et pratiquèrent des choses mauvaises pour provoquer l'Éternel.
and make perfume there in all high places, like the nations that Jehovah removed from their presence, and do evil things to provoke Jehovah,
12 Et ils servirent les idoles dont l'Éternel leur avait dit: Vous n'en ferez rien.
and serve the idols, of which Jehovah said to them, 'Ye do not do this thing;'
13 Et l'Éternel somma Israël et Juda par l'organe de tous ses prophètes, de tout Voyant, en ces termes: Quittez vos voies mauvaises et gardez mes commandements, mes statuts, d'après toute la Loi que j'ai prescrite à vos pères, et tous les messages que je vous ai envoyés par l'organe de mes serviteurs les prophètes!
And Jehovah testifieth against Israel, and against Judah, by the hand of every prophet, and every seer, saying, 'Turn back from your evil ways, and keep My commands, My statutes, according to all the law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent unto you by the hand of My servants the prophets;'
14 Mais ils n'écoutèrent point, ils roidirent leur col comme le col de leurs pères, qui n'avaient pas cru en l'Éternel, leur Dieu.
and they have not hearkened, and harden their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who did not remain stedfast in Jehovah their God,
15 Et ils méprisèrent ses statuts et son alliance qu'il avait conclue avec leurs pères, et ses sommations qu'il leur adressait, et ils suivirent les vaines idoles et s'adonnèrent à la vanité, et imitèrent les nations de leurs alentours que l'Éternel leur avait commandé de ne point imiter.
and reject His statutes and His covenant that He made with their fathers, and His testimonies that He testified against them, and go after the vain thing, and become vain, and after the nations that are round about them, of whom Jehovah commanded them not to do like them;
16 Et ils négligèrent tous les commandements de l'Éternel, leur Dieu, et se fabriquèrent des images de fonte, deux veaux, et ils se firent des Astartés, et adorèrent toute l'armée des cieux, et rendirent un culte à Baal.
And they forsake all the commands of Jehovah their God, and make to them a molten image — two calves, and make a shrine, and bow themselves to all the host of the heavens, and serve Baal,
17 Et ils firent passer par le feu leurs fils et leurs filles et pratiquèrent la divination et les augures et se vendirent pour faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, afin de le provoquer.
and cause their sons and their daughters to pass over through fire, and divine divinations, and use enchantments, and sell themselves to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him;
18 Alors l'Éternel se courrouça fort contre Israël et Il les exclut de sa présence: il ne resta que la tribu de Juda seule.
That Jehovah sheweth himself very angry against Israel, and turneth them aside from His presence; none hath been left, only the tribe of Judah by itself.
19 Même Juda ne garda pas les commandements de l'Éternel, leur Dieu; ils marchèrent d'après les statuts dressés par les Israélites.
Also Judah hath not kept the commands of Jehovah their God, and they walk in the statutes of Israel that they had made.
20 Ce qui fit que l'Éternel répudia la totalité de la race d'Israël qu'il humilia et livra à la merci des spoliateurs jusque-là qu'il les bannit de sa présence.
And Jehovah kicketh against all the seed of Israel, and afflicteth them, and giveth them into the hand of spoilers, till that He hath cast them out of His presence,
21 C'est pourquoi Israël avait fait scission avec la maison de David, et s'était donné pour roi Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, et Jéroboam avait débauché Israël du service de l'Éternel et l'avait entraîné à un péché grand.
for He hath rent Israel from the house of David, and they make Jeroboam son of Nebat king, and Jeroboam driveth Israel from after Jehovah, and hath caused them to sin a great sin,
22 Et les enfants d'Israël persistèrent dans tous les péchés de Jéroboam, que celui-ci avait commis, et ne s'en départirent pas,
and the sons of Israel walk in all the sins of Jeroboam that he did, they have not turned aside therefrom,
23 jusque là que l'Éternel exclut Israël de sa présence, comme Il avait dit par l'organe de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes, et Israël fut déporté de son pays en Assyrie; ce qu'il est encore aujourd'hui.
till that Jehovah hath turned Israel aside from His presence, as He spake by the hand of all His servants the prophets, and Israel is removed from off its land to Asshur, unto this day.
24 Et le roi d'Assyrie fit venir [du monde] de Babel et de Cutha et de Arva et de Hamath et de Sepharvaïm, et il l'établit dans les villes de la Samarie en place des enfants d'Israël; et ils prirent possession de la Samarie et se domicilièrent dans les villes.
And the king of Asshur bringeth in from Babylon and from Cutha, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and causeth [them] to dwell in the cities of Samaria instead of the sons of Israel, and they possess Samaria, and dwell in its cities;
25 Et il arriva au début de l'établissement de ces gens qui ne craignaient pas l'Éternel, que l'Éternel envoya contre eux les lions, qui firent du carnage parmi eux.
and it cometh to pass, at the commencement of their dwelling there, they have not feared Jehovah, and Jehovah doth send among them the lions, and they are destroying among them.
26 Alors ils s'adressèrent au roi d'Assyrie en ces termes: Les nations que tu as transportées et établies dans les villes de la Samarie, ne connaissent pas le rite du dieu du pays: aussi a-t-il envoyé contre eux les lions qui, voici, les tuent, parce qu'ils ignorent, le rite du dieu du pays.
And they speak to the king of Asshur, saying, 'The nations that thou hast removed, and dost place in the cities of Samaria, have not known the custom of the God of the land, and He sendeth among them the lions, and lo, they are destroying them, as they do not know the custom of the God of the land.'
27 Et le roi d'Assyrie donna cet ordre: Ramenez-y l'un des prêtres que vous avez emmenés de là en captivité; afin qu'ils puissent aller y habiter étant initiés [par le prêtre] au rite du dieu du pays.
And the king of Asshur commandeth, saying, 'Cause to go thither one of the priests whom ye removed thence, and they go and dwell there, and he doth teach them the custom of the God of the land.'
28 Il vint donc un des prêtres qu'ils avaient emmenés de Samarie, et il se fixa à Béthel, et il leur enseigna comment ils devaient célébrer le culte de l'Éternel.
And one of the priests whom they removed from Samaria cometh in, and dwelleth in Beth-El, and he is teaching them how they do fear Jehovah,
29 Cependant chaque peuplade se faisait d'ailleurs son dieu, et elles les placèrent dans les temples des tertres élevés par les Samaritains, chacune dans les villes où elle était établie.
and they are making each nation its gods, and place [them] in the houses of the high places that the Samaritans have made, each nation in their cities where they are dwelling.
30 Et les gens de Babel firent des loges de filles, et les gens de Cuth [l'idole] Nergal, et les gens de Hamath, Asima,
And the men of Babylon have made Succoth-Benoth, and the men of Cuth have made Nergal, and the men of Hamath have made Ashima,
31 et les Avites, Nibchaz et Thirthak, et les Sepharvites brûlaient leurs fils dans le feu à Adrammelech et Anammelech, divinités de Sepharvaïm.
and the Avites have made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites are burning their sons with fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, gods of Sepharvim.
32 Et ils rendaient aussi un culte à l'Éternel, et se créèrent de leur sein des prêtres pour les tertres, qui sacrifiaient pour eux dans les temples des tertres.
And they are fearing Jehovah, and make to themselves from their extremities priests of high places, and they are acting for them in the house of the high places.
33 Ils rendaient un culte à l'Éternel et servaient leurs dieux selon le rite des nations d'où on les avait transportés.
Jehovah they are fearing, and their gods they are serving, according to the custom of the nations whence they removed them.
34 Jusqu'aujourd'hui leur pratique est conforme à leurs premiers usages; ils ne rendent point un culte à l'Éternel [seul]; et n'agissent point [uniquement] d'après leurs us, et coutumes, nom plus que d'après la Loi et le Commandement prescrit par l'Éternel aux fils de Jacob à qui Il avait donné le nom d'Israël.
Unto this day they are doing according to the former customs — they are not fearing Jehovah, and are not doing according to their statutes, and according to their ordinances, and according to the law, and according to the command, that Jehovah commanded the sons of Jacob whose name He made Israel,
35 Car l'Éternel avait conclu une alliance avec eux, et leur avait donné cet ordre: Vous ne craindrez pas d'autres dieux et vous ne les adorerez pas et ne les servirez pas et ne leur ferez pas de sacrifices;
and Jehovah maketh with them a covenant, and chargeth them, saying, 'Ye do not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them,
36 mais l'Éternel, qui vous a retirés du pays d'Egypte avec une grande puissance et le bras étendu, c'est Lui que vous craindrez, adorerez, Lui à qui vous offrirez des sacrifices;
but Jehovah who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a stretched-out arm, Him ye do fear, and to Him ye bow yourselves, and to Him ye do sacrifice;
37 et les statuts et les rites et la Loi et le Commandement qu'il vous a donnés par écrit, c'est ce que vous observerez pour le pratiquer en tout temps, sans craindre d'autres dieux;
and the statutes, and the judgments, and the law, and the command, that He wrote for you, ye observe to do all the days, and ye do not fear other gods;
38 et l'alliance que J'ai conclue avec vous, vous ne l'oublierez pas, et vous ne craindrez pas d'autres dieux;
and the covenant that I have made with you ye do not forget, and ye do not fear other gods;
39 mais l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous le craindrez, et Il vous sauvera de la main de tous vos ennemis.
but Jehovah your God ye do fear, and He doth deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies;'
40 Mais ils n'obéirent pas; au contraire, ils se réglèrent d'après leurs premiers usages.
and they have not hearkened, but according to their former custom they are doing,
41 C'est ainsi que ces nations, tout en rendant un culte à l'Éternel, servaient leurs idoles, et leurs enfants et petits-enfants agissent aujourd'hui encore, comme ont agi leurs pères.
and these nations are fearing Jehovah, and their graven images they have served, both their sons and their sons' sons; as their fathers did, they are doing unto this day.
