2 Rois 12
1 Ce fut la septième année de Jéhu que Joas devint roi, et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Or le nom de sa mère était Tsibia de Béerséba.
Joas began to reign in the seventh year of Ju, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name [was] Sabia of Bersabee.
2 Et Joas pratiqua ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, aussi longtemps qu'il eut les directions du Prêtre Jehojada.
And Joas did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days that Jodae the priest instructed him.
3 Seulement les tertres ne disparurent pas; le peuple offrait encore des victimes et de l'encens sur les tertres.
Only there were not [any] of the high places removed, and the people still sacrificed there, and burned incense on the high places.
4 Et Joas dit aux Prêtres: Tout l'argent consacré qui est apporté au temple de l'Éternel, argent ayant cours, l'argent pour la vie payé par chacun d'après son estimation, tout l'argent que le cœur suggère à quelqu'un d'apporter au temple de l'Éternel,
And Joas said to the priests, [As for] all the money of the holy things that is brought into the house of the Lord, the money of valuation, [as] each man brings the money of valuation, all the money which any man may feel disposed to bring into the house of the Lord,
5 que les Prêtres le retirent chacun de ses relations et l'emploient à réparer les brèches du temple partout où il s'y trouvera une brèche.
let the priests take it to themselves, every man from [the proceeds of] his sale: and they shall repair the breaches of the house in all [places] wheresoever a breach shall be found.
6 Et il arriva que, la vingt-troisième année du roi Joas, les Prêtres n'avaient point réparé les brèches du temple.
And it came to pass in the twenty-third year of king Joas the priests [had] not repaired the breaches of the house.
7 Alors le roi Joas manda le Prêtre Jehojada et les Prêtres et leur dit: Pourquoi ne réparez-vous pas les brèches du temple? Eh bien! donc vous n'avez plus à retirer d'argent de vos relations, car vous devez l'affecter aux brèches du temple.
And king Joas called Jodae the priest, and the [other] priests, and said to them, Why have ye not repaired the breaches of the house? now then receive no [more] money from your sales, for ye shall give it to [repair the] breaches of the house.
8 Et les Prêtres consentirent à ne plus retirer l'argent du peuple et à ne pas réparer les brèches du temple.
And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, and not to repair the breaches of the house.
9 Et le Prêtre Jehojada prit un coffre au couvercle duquel il perça un trou et qu'il plaça à côté de l'autel à droite; quelqu'un entrait-il au temple de l'Éternel, les Prêtres, gardes du seuil, y jetaient tout l'argent apporté au temple de l'Éternel.
And Jodae the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it by the altar in the house of a man [belonging to] the house of the Lord, and the priests that kept the door put [therein] all the money that was found in the house of the Lord.
10 Et quand ils virent il qu'il y avait beaucoup d'argent dans le coffre, le Secrétaire du roi et le Grand Prêtre vinrent, et ils en firent des rouleaux, et comptèrent cet argent qui se trouvait dans le temple de l'Éternel.
And it came to pass, when they saw that [there was] much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest went up, and they tied up and counted the money that was found in the house of the Lord.
11 Et ils remirent l'argent, pesé, entre les mains des entrepreneurs de l'ouvrage employés au temple de l'Éternel, et ceux-ci en payèrent les charpentiers et architectes occupés au temple de l'Éternel
And they gave the money that had been collected into the hands of them that wrought the works, the overseers of the house of the Lord; and they gave it out to the carpenters and to the builders that wrought in the house of the Lord.
12 et les maçons et tailleurs de pierre, et les achats de bois et de pierre de taille pour la réparation des brèches du temple de l'Éternel, et toutes les dépenses faites au temple pour la restauration.
And to the masons, and to the hewers of stone, to purchase timber and hewn stone to repair the breaches of the house of the Lord, for all that was spent on the house of the Lord to repair [it].
13 Cependant pour le temple de l'Éternel on ne fit ni bassins d'argent, ni couteaux, ni jattes, ni trompettes, ni vaisselle quelconque d'or et d'argent, avec l'argent entré au temple de l'Éternel,
Only there were not to be made for the house of the Lord silver plates, studs, bowls, or trumpets, any vessel of gold or vessel of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the Lord:
14 mais on l'employa à payer ceux qui firent l'ouvrage, et qui l'appliquèrent à la restauration du temple de l'Éternel.
for they were to give it to the workmen, and they repaired therewith the house of the Lord.
15 Et l'on ne compta point avec les hommes entre les mains desquels on avait remis l'argent pour en payer les ouvriers, car c'est avec bonne foi qu'ils agissaient.
Also they took no account of the men into whose hands they gave the money to give to the workmen, for they acted faithfully.
16 L'amende pour délit et l'amende pour péché
Money for a sin-offering, and money for a trespass-offering, whatever happened to be brought into the house of the Lord, went to the priests.
17 n'entrèrent point dans le temple de l'Éternel; elles furent pour les Prêtres.
Then went up Azael king of Syria, and fought against Geth, and took it: and Azael set his face to go against Jerusalem.
18 C'est alors que Hazaël, roi de Syrie, s'avança et vint attaquer Gath dont il s'empara. Et Hazaël ayant résolu de marcher sur Jérusalem, Joas, roi de Juda, prit toutes les choses consacrées qu'avaient consacrées Josaphat et Joram et Achazia, ses pères, rois de Juda, et ce qu'il avait consacré lui-même et tout l'or qui se trouvait dans les trésors du temple de l'Éternel et du palais royal, et envoya le tout à Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Et Hazaël s'éloigna de Jérusalem.
And Joas king of Juda took all the holy things which Josaphat, and Joram, Ochozias, his fathers, and kings of Juda [had] consecrated, and what he had himself dedicated, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the Lord's house and the king's house, and he sent [them] to Azael king of Syria; and he went up from Jerusalem.
19 Le reste des actes de Joas et toutes ses entreprises sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
And the rest of the acts of Joas, and all that he did, behold, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda?
20 Et ses serviteurs se levèrent et formèrent une conjuration et frappèrent Joas à Beth-Millo, qui descend à Silla.
And his servants rose up and made a conspiracy, and smote Joas in the house of Mallo that is in Sela.
21 Et Jozachar, fils de Simeath, et Jozabad, fils de Somer, ses serviteurs, lui portèrent les coups dont il mourut; et ils lui donnèrent la sépulture à côté de ses pères dans la ville de David. Et Amatsia, son fils, régna en sa place.
And Jezirchar the son of Jemuath, and Jezabuth Somer's son, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amessias his son reigned in his stead.
