1 Alors Salomon dit: L'Éternel a résolu d'habiter dans l'obscurité!

THEN said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

2 Et moi, je T'ai élevé une Maison pour demeure et un lieu fixe pour ta résidence à jamais.

But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.

3 Et le roi tourna son visage et bénit toute l'Assemblée d'Israël, et toute l'Assemblée était debout.

And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.

4 Et il dit: Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, qui de sa bouche a parlé à David, mon père, et qui de sa main accomplit ce qu'il a dit:

And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

5 Depuis le jour où j'ai retiré mon peuple du pays d'Egypte, je n'avais point choisi de ville dans aucune des Tribus d'Israël pour y construire une Maison où mon Nom habitât, ni n'ai choisi d'homme pour être prince de mon peuple d'Israël;

Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

6 mais j'ai choisi Jérusalem pour que mon Nom y fût, et choisi David pour qu'il régnât sur mon peuple d'Israël.

But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

7 Et David, mon père, avait la pensée d'élever un temple au Nom de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël;

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

8 mais l'Éternel dit à David, mon père: En ayant la pensée d'élever un temple à mon Nom, tu as bien fait d'en avoir la pensée;

But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

9 seulement ce n'est pas toi qui construiras le temple, mais ton fils sorti de tes entrailles, c'est lui qui élèvera le temple à Mon Nom.

Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

10 Et l'Éternel a mis à effet sa parole, qu'il avait prononcée, et j'ai succédé à David, mon père, et me suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, ainsi qu'a dit l'Éternel, et ai élevé le temple au Nom de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël,

The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

11 et j'y ai placé l'Arche où est l'alliance de l'Éternel, qu'il a conclue avec les enfants d'Israël.

And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

12 Et Salomon s'avança devant l'autel de l'Éternel en face de toute l'Assemblée d'Israël et il étendit ses mains.

And he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:

13 Car Salomon s'était fait une tribune d'airain et l'avait placée au centre du parvis; elle avait cinq coudées de longueur et cinq coudées de largeur et trois coudées de hauteur; et il s'y plaça et s'agenouilla en face de toute l'Assemblée d'Israël, et il étendit ses mains vers le ciel et dit:

For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,

14 Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, il n'est au ciel et sur la terre point de Dieu pareil à toi gardant alliance et grâce à tes serviteurs marchant devant toi de tout leur cœur,

And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

15 toi qui as tenu à ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as promis; de ta bouche tu parlais, et de ta main tu as accompli ce qu'on voit aujourd'hui.

Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

16 Et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, tiens à ton serviteur, David, mon père, ce que tu lui as promis, en disant: Tu ne manqueras jamais d'un homme devant moi pour occuper le trône d'Israël, pourvu que tes fils prennent garde à leurs voies pour suivre ma loi, comme tu l'as suivie devant moi;

Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

17 et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, qu'elle se justifie ta promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur, à David.

Now then, O Lord God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.

18 Quoi! Vraiment Dieu habiterait-Il avec l'homme sur la terre! Voici, les Cieux et les Cieux des Cieux ne te contiennent pas; combien moins ce temple que j'ai bâti!

But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

19 Mais aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur et à sa supplication, Éternel, mon Dieu, pour écouter mon cri et la prière que ton serviteur te présente aujourd'hui,

Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

20 afin que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont tu as dit que tu veux y mettre ton Nom, afin d'exaucer la prière que ton serviteur élèvera vers ce lieu.

That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

21 Exauce donc la requête que ton serviteur et ton peuple d'Israël élèveront vers ce lieu; exauce-les du lieu de ta demeure, des Cieux, exauce et pardonne!

Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.

22 Si quelqu'un pèche contre son prochain et qu'on lui impose un serment pour l'assermenter, et que le serment intervienne devant ton autel dans ce temple,

If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

23 toi, écoute des Cieux et agis et juge tes serviteurs pour payer de retour le coupable et faire retomber sa conduite sur sa tête et pour absoudre l'innocent et lui rendre selon sa justice.

Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.

24 Et si ton peuple d'Israël est battu devant l'ennemi pour avoir péché contre toi, et s'ils se convertissent et confessent ton Nom, et te prient et te supplient dans cette Maison,

And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

25 ô toi, écoute des Cieux et pardonne le péché de ton peuple d'Israël et ramène-les au pays que tu as donné à eux et à leurs pères.

Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

26 Si le ciel se ferme et qu'il n'y ait pas de pluie parce qu'ils ont péché contre toi, et s'ils élèvent leurs prières vers ce lieu et confessent ton Nom et reviennent de leur péché, parce que tu les humilies,

When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

27 ô toi, écoute des Cieux et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple d'Israël, après leur avoir montré la bonne voie où ils doivent marcher, et accorde la pluie à ton pays que tu as donné à ton peuple pour le posséder.

Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

28 S'il y a famine dans le pays, s'il y a peste, brûlure et nielle, sauterelles et locustes, si ses ennemis le pressent dans le pays de ses Portes, s'il y a fléau ou maladie quelconque,

If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:

29 toute prière, toute supplication faite par un individu quelconque ou par la totalité de ton peuple d'Israël, si chacun a le sentiment de sa plaie et de sa douleur et qu'ils tendent leurs mains vers ce temple,

Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

30 ô toi, écoute-la des Cieux, lieu de ta résidence, et pardonne et rends à chacun en raison de toutes ses voies selon la connaissance que tu as de son cœur, car seul tu connais le cœur des enfants de l'homme,

Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men: )

31 afin qu'ils te craignent pour suivre tes voies tout le temps qu'ils vivront sur la face du sol que tu as donné à nos pères.

That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

32 Et l'étranger aussi qui n'est pas de ton peuple d'Israël et vient d'un pays lointain à cause de ton grand Nom et de ta main puissante et de ton bras étendu, et arrive et élève sa prière vers ce temple,

Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

33 ô toi, écoute-le des Cieux, du lieu de ta résidence, et effectue tout ce pour quoi l'étranger t'invoque, afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton Nom et te révèrent comme ton peuple d'Israël et sachent que ton Nom est invoqué sur ce temple que j'ai élevé.

Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

34 Si ton peuple se met en marche pour une guerre contre ses ennemis en suivant la voie où tu l'engages, et s'ils te prient en se tournant vers cette cité que tu as choisie et vers ce temple que j'ai élevé à ton Nom,

If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

35 oh! écoute des Cieux leur prière et leur supplication, et fais-leur droit.

Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

36 S'ils péchent contre toi, (car il n'est pas un homme qui ne pèche) et si tu t'irrites contre eux, et les livres à l'ennemi, et que leurs vainqueurs les emmènent dans un pays lointain ou rapproché,

If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not, ) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

37 et s'ils rentrent en eux-mêmes dans le pays où ils auront été emmenés captifs, et s'ils se convertissent, et élèvent vers toi leur prière dans le pays de leur captivité disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons forfait, nous sommes coupables!

Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

38 et s'ils reviennent à toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme dans le pays de leur captivité où on les aura emmenés captifs, et s'ils te prient en se tournant vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, et vers la cité que tu as choisie et vers le temple que j'ai élevé à ton Nom,

If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

39 oh! écoute des Cieux, du lieu de ta résidence, leurs prières et leurs supplications et fais-leur droit et pardonne à ton peuple ce qu'ils auront fait de coupable contre toi.

Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

40 Maintenant, ô mon Dieu, que tes yeux soient ouverts et tes oreilles attentives aux prières de ce lieu.

Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

41 Maintenant, lève-toi, Dieu, Éternel, vers ton lieu de repos, toi et ton Arche glorieuse! Que tes Prêtres, Dieu, Éternel, soient revêtus de salut et que tes saints aient la joie du bonheur!

Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

42 Dieu, Éternel, ne repousse pas ton Oint, aie souvenir des grâces faites à David, ton serviteur!

O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.
