1 Et Salomon pensait à élever un temple au Nom de l'Éternel et un palais pour sa demeure royale.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.
2 Alors Salomon fixa un nombre de soixante-dix mille portefaix et de quatre-vingt mille tailleurs de pierre dans la montagne et trois mille six cents préposés pour les conduire.
And Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand men who were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
3 Et Salomon députa vers Huram, roi de Tyr, pour lui dire: [Fais pour moi] comme tu as fait pour David, mon père, en lui envoyant des cèdres pour se bâtir un palais pour sa demeure.
And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build for him a house to dwell therein, so with me.
4 Voici, j'élève un temple au Nom de l'Éternel, mon Dieu, pour le Lui consacrer, pour brûler devant lui l'encens odorant et lui offrir les pains de présentation à l'ordinaire, et les holocaustes du matin et du soir aux Sabbats, aux Nouvelles-Lunes, et aux Fêtes de l'Éternel, notre Dieu: c'est à perpétuité un devoir pour Israël.
Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Jehovah our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.
5 Et l'édifice que je veux construire sera grand; car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.
And the house which I build is great. For our God is great above all gods.
6 Mais qui sera de force à lui élever un temple? car les Cieux et les Cieux des Cieux ne peuvent Le contenir; et qui suis-je pour lui élever un temple? ce n'est que pour faire fumer l'encens devant lui.
But who is able to build for him a house, seeing heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? Who am I then, that I should build for him a house, except only to burn incense before him?
7 Envoie-moi donc un homme habile à travailler en or et en argent et en airain et en fer et en pourpre rouge et cramoisi et pourpre d'azur, et sachant sculpter des sculptures, pour se joindre aux hommes habiles que j'ai à ma portée en Juda et à Jérusalem et qu'a préparés David, mon père.
Now therefore send me a man skilful to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings, to be with the skilful men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.
8 Et envoie-moi des bois de cèdre, de cyprès et de santal, du Liban; car je sais que tes serviteurs s'entendent à couper le bois au Liban, et voici, mes serviteurs se joindront à tes serviteurs.
Send to me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon. For I know that thy servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
9 Et je dois me procurer du bois en masse, car le temple que je vais élever doit être grand et merveilleux.
even to prepare for me timber in abundance. For the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.
10 Et voici, pour les bûcherons qui couperont le bois je donnerai à tes serviteurs du froment égrené, vingt mille cors, et de l'orge, vingt mille cors, et du vin, vingt mille baths, et de l'huile, vingt mille baths.
And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers who cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.
11 Et Huram, roi de Tyr, répondit par écrit, mandant à Salomon: « C'est par amour pour son peuple que l'Éternel t'en a fait roi.
Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because Jehovah loves his people, he has made thee king over them.
12 Et Huram disait: Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, qui a fait les Cieux et la terre, de ce qu'il a donné au roi David un fils sage et prudent et intelligent qui veut élever un temple à l'Éternel et un palais pour sa demeure royale.
Huram said moreover, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.
13 Je t'envoie donc un homme habile et doué d'intelligence,
And now I have sent a skilful man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,
14 savoir Huram-Abi, fils d'une femme d'entre les filles de Dan, tandis que son père était un Tyrien, habile ouvrier en or et en argent, en airain, en fer, en pierre et en bois, en pourpre rouge, en pourpre d'azur et en byssus et en cramoisi et sachant sculpter toutes sortes de sculptures, et imaginer toutes les sortes d'ouvrages d'art qui lui sont proposés, avec le concours de tes hommes entendus et des hommes entendus de mon Seigneur David, ton père.
the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan. And his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, also to engrave any manner of engraving, and to devise any device, that there may be a place appointed to him with thy skilful men, and with the skilful men of my lord David thy father.
15 Et quant au froment et à l'orge, à l'huile et au vin, dont mon Seigneur a parlé, qu'il veuille l'envoyer à ses serviteurs:
Now therefore the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants.
16 de notre côté nous couperons du bois au Liban selon tous tes besoins, et nous te l'amènerons en radeaux par mer à Joppe; d'où tu pourras le faire conduire à Jérusalem. »
And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shall need. And we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa, and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
17 Et Salomon dénombra tous les étrangers qui étaient au pays d'Israël, d'après le dénombrement qu'avait fait d'eux David, son père, et il s'en trouva cent cinquante-trois mille six cents.
And Solomon numbered all the aliens that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering with which David his father had numbered them. And they were found a hundred and fifty-three thousand and six hundred.
18 Et il en fit soixante-dix mille portefaix, et quatre-vingt mille tailleurs de pierre dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents préposés pour tenir ce monde assujetti.
And he set seventy thousand of them to bear burdens, and eighty thousand who were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people to work.
