1 Corinthiens 9

1 Ne suis-je pas libre? Ne suis-je pas apôtre? Est-ce que je n'ai pas vu Jésus notre seigneur? N'êtes-vous pas vous-mêmes mon œuvre dans le seigneur?

Am not I an apostle? am not I free? Jesus Christ our Lord have I not seen? my work are not ye in the Lord?

2 Si, pour d'autres, je ne suis pas un apôtre, en revanche du moins je le suis pour vous, car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le seigneur.

if to others I am not an apostle — yet doubtless to you I am; for the seal of my apostleship are ye in the Lord.

3 Voilà la justification que j'oppose à ceux qui me critiquent.

My defence to those who examine me in this;

4 Est-ce que nous n'avons pas le droit de manger et de boire?

have we not authority to eat and to drink?

5 Est-ce que nous n'avons pas le droit de mener avec nous une sœur qui soit notre femme, comme le font aussi les autres apôtres, et les frères du seigneur, et Céphas?

have we not authority a sister — a wife — to lead about, as also the other apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 Ou bien, moi seul et Barnabas n'avons-nous pas le droit de ne point travailler?

or only I and Barnabas, have we not authority — not to work?

7 Qui est-ce qui fait le service militaire à ses propres dépens? Qui est-ce qui plante une vigne, et n'en mange pas le fruit? Qui est-ce qui fait paître un troupeau, et ne se nourrit pas du lait de ce troupeau?

who doth serve as a soldier at his own charges at any time? who doth plant a vineyard, and of its fruit doth not eat? or who doth feed a flock, and of the milk of the flock doth not eat?

8 Est-ce d'un point de vue humain que je parle ainsi, ou bien la loi aussi ne dit-elle pas les mêmes choses?

According to man do I speak these things? or doth not also the law say these things?

9 En effet il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse: « Tu n'emmusèleras pas le bœuf qui foule le grain. » Est-ce que Dieu prend souci des bœufs?

for in the law of Moses it hath been written, 'thou shalt not muzzle an ox treading out corn;' for the oxen doth God care?

10 Ou bien parle-t-Il uniquement à cause de nous? C'est à cause de nous en effet que cela a été écrit, car celui qui laboure doit labourer avec espérance, et celui qui foule le grain avec l'espérance d'en avoir sa part.

or because of us by all means doth He say [it]? yes, because of us it was written, because in hope ought the plower to plow, and he who is treading [ought] of his hope to partake in hope.

11 Si, pour vous nous avons semé les choses spirituelles, est-il extraordinaire que nous moissonnions vos biens charnels?

If we to you the spiritual things did sow — great [is it] if we your fleshly things do reap?

12 Si d'autres possèdent des droits sur vous, n'en possédons-nous pas nous-mêmes à plus forte raison? Mais nous n'avons pas usé de ces droits; au contraire nous endurons tout pour ne pas créer d'obstacle à l'évangile de Christ.

if others do partake of the authority over you — not we more? but we did not use this authority, but all things we bear, that we may give no hindrance to the good news of the Christ.

13 Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui vaquent aux sacrifices tirent leur nourriture du temple, et que ceux qui sont employés au service de l'autel entrent en partage avec l'autel?

Have ye not known that those working about the things of the temple — of the temple do eat, and those waiting at the altar — with the altar are partakers?

14 De même aussi le Seigneur a prescrit à ceux qui annoncent l'Évangile de vivre de l'Évangile.

so also did the Lord direct to those proclaiming the good news: of the good news to live.

15 Pour moi je n'ai fait usage d'aucun de ces droits. Mais je n'écris pas ainsi afin que cela me soit appliqué, car mieux me vaudrait mourir; ou plutôt, ce qui est pour moi un motif de m'enorgueillir, personne ne le détruira.

And I have used none of these things; neither did I write these things that it may be so done in my case, for [it is] good for me rather to die, than that any one may make my glorying void;

16 En effet, ce n'est pas de prêcher la bonne nouvelle, qui est pour moi un motif de m'enorgueillir, car c'est une nécessité qui m'est imposée; en effet, malheur à moi si je n'annonçais pas la bonne nouvelle!

for if I may proclaim good news, it is no glorying for me, for necessity is laid upon me, and woe is to me if I may not proclaim good news;

17 Car, si c'est volontairement que j'agis ainsi, je reçois une récompense, mais si c'est involontairement, c'est une administration qui m'est confiée.

for if willing I do this, I have a reward; and if unwillingly — with a stewardship I have been entrusted!

18 Quelle est donc ma récompense? C'est, en prêchant la bonne nouvelle, d'offrir gratuitement l'Évangile, afin de ne pas user de mes droits dans la prédication de l'Évangile.

What, then, is my reward? — that proclaiming good news, without charge I shall make the good news of the Christ, not to abuse my authority in the good news;

19 Car moi, qui suis indépendant de tous, je me suis asservi à tous, afin d'en gagner le plus grand nombre;

for being free from all men, to all men I made myself servant, that the more I might gain;

20 et j'ai été pour les Juifs comme un Juif, afin de gagner les Juifs; pour ceux qui sont sous la loi comme étant moi-même sous la loi (quoique je ne sois point sous la loi), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sous la loi;

and I became to the Jews as a Jew, that Jews I might gain; to those under law as under law, that those under law I might gain;

21 pour ceux qui sont sans loi, comme étant moi-même sans loi (quoique je ne sois point sans la loi de Dieu et que je vive au contraire dans la loi de Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sans loi;

to those without law, as without law — (not being without law to God, but within law to Christ) — that I might gain those without law;

22 j'ai été faible pour les faibles, afin de gagner les faibles; j'ai été tout pour tous, afin d'en sauver sûrement quelques-uns.

I became to the infirm as infirm, that the infirm I might gain; to all men I have become all things, that by all means I may save some.

23 Or je fais tout à cause de l'Évangile, afin d'en prendre aussi ma part.

And this I do because of the good news, that a fellow-partaker of it I may become;

24 Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui courent dans le stade courent tous, il est vrai, mais qu'un seul remporte le prix? Courez de manière à l'obtenir.

have ye not known that those running in a race — all indeed run, but one doth receive the prize? so run ye, that ye may obtain;

25 Or tout athlète use d'une complète abstinence: ceux-là donc afin de remporter une couronne périssable, mais nous, une impérissable;

and every one who is striving, is in all things temperate; these, indeed, then, that a corruptible crown they may receive, but we an incorruptible;

26 je cours donc, mais non sans savoir où je vais; je lutte, mais de manière à ne pas battre l'air de mes coups;

I, therefore, thus run, not as uncertainly, thus I fight, as not beating air;

27 mais je frappe mon propre corps et je le traite en esclave, de peur qu'après avoir servi de héraut pour les autres, je ne sois moi-même mis de côté.

but I chastise my body, and bring [it] into servitude, lest by any means, having preached to others — I myself may become disapproved.
