Proverbes 24
1 Ne porte point envie aux hommes méchants, et ne désire point être avec eux.
Sue thou not yuele men, desire thou not to be with hem.
2 Car leur cœur médite la ruine et leurs lèvres parlent de nuire.
For the soule of hem bithenkith raueyns, and her lippis speken fraudis.
3 C'est par la sagesse que la maison sera bâtie, et c'est par l'intelligence qu'elle sera affermie.
An hous schal be bildid bi wisdom, and schal be maad strong bi prudence.
4 Et c'est par la science que les chambres seront remplies de tous les biens précieux et agréables.
Celeris schulen be fillid in teching, al riches preciouse and ful fair.
5 L'homme sage est plein de force, et l'homme intelligent devient puissant.
A wijs man is strong, and a lerned man is stalworth and miyti.
6 Car c'est avec la prudence qu'on fait la guerre, et la victoire dépend du nombre des conseillers.
For whi batel is bigunnun with ordenaunce, and helthe schal be, where many counsels ben.
7 La sagesse est trop élevée pour un insensé; il n'ouvrira pas la bouche aux portes.
Wisdom is hiy to a fool; in the yate he schal not opene his mouth.
8 Celui qui pense à faire mal, on l'appellera maître en méchanceté.
He that thenkith to do yuels, schal be clepid a fool.
9 Un mauvais dessein est une folie, et le moqueur est en abomination aux hommes.
The thouyte of a fool is synne; and a bacbitere is abhomynacioun of men.
10 Si tu perds courage au jour de la détresse, ta force sera petite.
If thou that hast slide, dispeirist in the dai of angwisch, thi strengthe schal be maad lesse.
11 Délivre ceux qui sont traînés à la mort, et qui sont sur le point d'être tués.
Delyuere thou hem, that ben led to deth; and ceesse thou not to delyuere hem, that ben drawun to deth.
12 Si tu dis: Voici, nous n'en avons rien su; celui qui pèse les cœurs ne l'entendra-t-il point? Et celui qui garde ton âme ne le saura-t-il point? Et ne rendra-t-il pas à chacun selon son œuvre?
If thou seist, Strengthis suffisen not; he that is biholdere of the herte, vndirstondith, and no thing disseyueth the kepere of thi soule, and he schal yelde to a man bi hise werkis.
13 Mon fils, mange le miel, car il est bon, et le rayon de miel, qui est doux à ton palais.
Mi sone, ete thou hony, for it is good; and an honycomb ful swete to thi throte.
14 Telle sera la connaissance de la sagesse à ton âme; quand tu l'auras trouvée, il y aura une bonne issue, et ton attente ne sera point trompée.
`So and the techyng of wisdom is good to thi soule; and whanne thou hast founde it, thou schalt haue hope in the laste thingis, and thin hope schal not perische.
15 Méchant, ne tends pas d'embûches contre la demeure du juste, et ne dévaste pas son habitation.
Aspie thou not, and seke not wickidnesse in the hous of a iust man, nether waste thou his reste.
16 Car le juste tombera sept fois, et il sera relevé; mais les méchants sont précipités dans le malheur.
For a iust man schal falle seuene sithis in the dai, and schal rise ayen; but wickid men schulen falle in to yuele.
17 Quand ton ennemi sera tombé, ne t'en réjouis point; et quand il sera renversé, que ton cœur ne s'en égaie point;
Whanne thin enemye fallith, haue thou not ioye; and thin herte haue not ful out ioiyng in his fal;
18 De peur que l'Éternel ne le voie, et que cela ne lui déplaise, et qu'il ne détourne de lui sa colère.
lest perauenture the Lord se, and it displese hym, and he take awei his ire fro hym.
19 Ne t'irrite point à cause de ceux qui font le mal; ne porte point envie aux méchants;
Stryue thou not with `the worste men, nether sue thou wickid men.
20 Car il n'y a pas d'issue pour celui qui fait le mal, et la lampe des méchants sera éteinte.
For whi yuele men han not hope of thingis to comynge, and the lanterne of wickid men schal be quenchid.
21 Mon fils, crains l'Éternel et le roi, et ne te mêle point avec des gens remuants.
My sone, drede thou God, and the kyng; and be thou not medlid with bacbiteris.
22 Car leur ruine surviendra tout d'un coup, et qui sait le malheur qui arrivera aux uns et aux autres?
For her perdicioun schal rise togidere sudenli, and who knowith the fal of euer either?
23 Voici encore ce qui vient des sages: Il n'est pas bon d'avoir égard à l'apparence des personnes dans le jugement.
Also these thingis that suen ben to wise men. It is not good to knowe a persoone in doom.
24 Celui qui dit au méchant: Tu es juste, les peuples le maudiront, et les nations le détesteront.
Puplis schulen curse hem, that seien to a wickid man, Thou art iust; and lynagis schulen holde hem abhomynable.
25 Mais ceux qui le reprennent s'en trouveront bien; sur eux viendront la bénédiction et le bonheur.
Thei that repreuen iustli synners, schulen be preisid; and blessing schal come on hem.
26 Celui qui répond avec droiture à quelqu'un, lui donne un baiser sur les lèvres.
He that answerith riytful wordis, schal kisse lippis.
27 Règle ton ouvrage au-dehors, et mets ordre à ton champ; et puis tu bâtiras ta maison.
Make redi thi werk with outforth, and worche thi feelde dilygentli, that thou bilde thin hous aftirward.
28 Ne sois point témoin contre ton prochain sans qu'il soit nécessaire: voudrais-tu séduire par tes lèvres?
Be thou not a witnesse with out resonable cause ayens thi neiybore; nether flatere thou ony man with thi lippis.
29 Ne dis point: Je lui ferai comme il m'a fait; je rendrai à cet homme selon son œuvre.
Seie thou not, As he dide to me, so Y schal do to him, and Y schal yelde to ech man aftir his werk.
30 J'ai passé près du champ d'un paresseux, et près de la vigne d'un homme dépourvu de sens;
I passide bi the feeld of a slow man, and bi the vyner of a fonned man; and, lo!
31 Et voici, les chardons y croissaient partout; les ronces en couvraient la surface, et son mur de pierre était écroulé.

32 Quand je vis cela, j'y appliquai mes pensées; je le regardai, j'en tirai instruction.
And whanne Y hadde seyn this thing, Y settide in myn herte, and bi ensaumple Y lernyde techyng.
33 Un peu dormir, un peu sommeiller, un peu croiser les mains pour se reposer,
Hou longe slepist thou, slow man? whanne schalt thou ryse fro sleep? Sotheli thou schalt slepe a litil, thou schalt nappe a litil, thou schalt ioyne togidere the hondis a litil, to take reste;
34 Et ta pauvreté viendra comme un passant, et ta disette comme un homme armé.
and thi nedynesse as a currour schal come to thee, and thi beggerie as an armed man.
