Philémon 1
1 Paul, prisonnier de Jésus-Christ, et Timothée notre frère, à Philémon notre bien-aimé, et notre compagnon d'œuvres;
From Paul, now a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and from Timothy, a fellow follower of the Lord.
2 Et à notre bien-aimé Apphie, et à Archippe, notre compagnon d'armes, et à l'Église qui est dans ta maison.
To our dear friend and fellow worker Philemon, to our sister Apphia, to our fellow soldier Archippus; and to the church that meets at Philemon’s house;
3 La grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
may God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and give you peace.
4 Je rends grâces à mon Dieu, faisant toujours mention de toi dans mes prières; en apprenant la foi que tu as au Seigneur Jésus,
I always mention you in my prayers and thank God for you,
5 Et ta charité envers tous les Saints; afin que la communication de la foi soit efficace,
because I hear of the love and the faith which you show, not only to the Lord Jesus, but also to all his people;
6 Par la connaissance de tout le bien qui se fait parmi vous, pour Jésus-Christ.
and I pray that your participation in the faith may result in action, as you come to a fuller realization of everything that is good and Christlike in us.
7 Car, mon frère, ta charité nous a donné une grande joie et une grande consolation, en ce que tu as réjoui les entrailles des Saints.
I have indeed found great joy and encouragement in your love, knowing, as I do, how the hearts of Christ’s people have been cheered, friend, by you.
8 C'est pourquoi, bien que j'aie en Christ une grande liberté pour te commander ce qui est convenable,
And so, though my union with Christ enables me, with all confidence, to dictate the course that you should adopt,
9 Cependant je te prie plutôt, étant ce que je suis, Paul avancé en âge, et même actuellement prisonnier de Jésus-Christ, au nom de la charité,
yet the claims of love make me prefer to plead with you – yes, even me, Paul, though I am an ambassador for Christ Jesus and, now a prisoner for him as well.
10 Je te prie pour mon fils Onésime, que j'ai engendré étant dans les chaînes,
I plead with you for this child of mine, Onesimus, to whom, in my prison, I have become a father.
11 Qui t'a été autrefois inutile, mais qui maintenant te sera utile, aussi bien qu'à moi, et que je te renvoie.
Once he was of little service to you, but now he has become of great service, not only to you, but to me as well;
12 Reçois-le donc comme mes propres entrailles.
and I am sending him back to you with this letter – though it is like tearing out of my heart.
13 Je voulais le retenir auprès de moi, afin qu'il me servît à ta place dans les liens où je suis pour l'Évangile.
For my own sake I should like to keep him with me, so that, while I am in prison for the good news, he might attend to my wants on your behalf.
14 Mais je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton avis, afin que ton bienfait ne fût pas comme forcé, mais volontaire.
But I do not wish to do anything without your consent, because I want your generosity to be voluntary and not, as it were, compulsory.
15 Car peut-être n'a-t-il été séparé de toi pour quelque temps, qu'afin que tu le recouvrasses pour toujours; (aiōnios g166)
It may be that he was separated from you for an hour, for this reason, so that you might have him back for ever, (aiōnios g166)
16 Non plus comme un esclave, mais comme supérieur à un esclave, comme un frère, particulièrement chéri de moi, et bien plus de toi, selon la chair, et selon le Seigneur.
no longer as a slave, but as something better – a dearly loved friend and follower of the Lord, especially dear to me, and how much more so to you, not only as a person, but as your fellow Christian!
17 Si donc tu me regardes comme uni à toi reçois-le comme moi-même.
If, then, you count me your friend, receive him as you would me.
18 S'il t'a fait quelque tort, ou s'il te doit quelque chose, mets-le sur mon compte.
If he has caused you any loss, or owes you anything, charge it to me.
19 Moi, Paul, je te l'écris de ma propre main, je te le rendrai, sans te dire que tu te dois toi-même à moi.
I, Paul, put my own hand to it – I will repay you myself. I say nothing about your owing me your self.
20 Oui, frère, que je reçoive ce plaisir de toi dans le Seigneur; réjouis mes entrailles dans le Seigneur.
Yes, friend, let me gain something from you because of your union with the Lord. Cheer my heart by your Christlike spirit.
21 Je t'écris, persuadé de ton obéissance, sachant que tu feras même plus que je ne dis.
Even as I write, I have such confidence in your compliance with my wishes, that I am sure that you will do even more than I am asking.
22 Mais en même temps prépare-moi un logement, car j'espère que je vous serai rendu par vos prières.
Please also get a lodging ready for me, for I hope that I will be given back to you all in answer to your prayers.
23 Épaphras, mon compagnon de captivité en Jésus-Christ,
Epaphras, who is my fellow prisoner for Christ Jesus, sends you his greeting;
24 Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes compagnons de travaux, te saluent.
and Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers, send theirs.
25 La grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec votre esprit! Amen.
