Job 35
1 Élihu reprit la parole, et dit:
Moreover Elihu proceeded, and said:
2 As-tu pensé avoir raison de dire: Je suis juste devant Dieu?
Dost thou then think this to be right? Thou hast said, “I am more righteous than God.”
3 Car tu as dit: Que m'en revient-il, et qu'y gagnerai-je de plus qu'à mon péché?
For thou askest, “What advantage have I? What have I gained, more than if I had sinned?”
4 Je te répondrai en mes discours, et à tes amis avec toi:
I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.
5 Regarde les cieux, et les considère; vois les nues, elles sont plus hautes que toi.
Look up to the heavens, and see! And behold the clouds, which are high above thee!
6 Si tu pèches, quel effet produis-tu sur lui? et si tes péchés se multiplient, qu'est-ce que tu lui fais?
If thou sinnest, what doest thou against Him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou to him?
7 Si tu es juste, que lui donnes-tu, et que reçoit-il de ta main?
If thou art righteous, what dost thou give him? Or what receiveth he at thy hand?
8 C'est à un homme tel que toi que ta méchanceté peut nuire, et au fils de l'homme que ta justice peut être utile.
Thy wickedness injureth only a man like thyself, And thy righteousness profiteth only a son of man.
9 On crie sous le poids de l'oppression, on gémit sous la violence des grands,
The oppressed cry out on account of the multitude of wrongs; They cry aloud on account of the arm of the mighty.
10 Et l'on ne dit pas: Où est Dieu, mon créateur, celui qui donne de quoi chanter dans la nuit,
But none saith, “Where is God, my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
11 Qui nous rend plus instruits que les bêtes de la terre, et plus sages que les oiseaux des cieux?
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of heaven?”
12 Ils crient donc sans être exaucés, à cause de l'orgueil des méchants.
There they cry aloud on account of the pride of the wicked; But he giveth no answer.
13 Dieu n'écoute pas ce qui n'est que mensonge, et le Tout-Puissant n'y a point égard.
For God will not hear the vain supplication, Nor will the Almighty regard it;
14 Quoique tu aies dit que tu ne le vois pas, le procès est devant lui: attends-le!
Much less when thou sayest thou canst not see him: Justice is with him, —only wait thou for him!
15 Et maintenant, parce que sa colère ne punit pas, parce qu'il ne prend pas rigoureusement connaissance du péché,
But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Nor taken strict note of transgression,
16 Job ouvre sa bouche pour de vains discours, il entasse paroles sur paroles sans science.
Therefore hath Job opened his mouth rashly, And multiplied words without knowledge.
