Job 23

1 Et Job prit la parole, et dit:

Bvt Iob answered and sayd,

2 Maintenant encore ma plainte est une révolte, et pourtant ma main comprime mes soupirs.

Though my talke be this day in bitternes, and my plague greater then my groning,

3 Oh! si je savais où le trouver, j'irais jusqu'à son trône,

Would God yet I knew how to finde him, I would enter vnto his place.

4 J'exposerais ma cause devant lui, et je remplirais ma bouche de preuves;

I would pleade the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

5 Je saurais ce qu'il me répondrait, et je comprendrais ce qu'il me dirait.

I would knowe the wordes, that he would answere me, and would vnderstand what he would say vnto me.

6 Contesterait-il avec moi dans la grandeur de sa force? Non, seulement il ferait attention à moi.

Would he plead against me with his great power? No, but he would put strength in me.

7 Ce serait alors un juste qui raisonnerait avec lui, et je serais absous pour toujours par mon juge.

There the righteous might reason with him, so I shoulde be deliuered for euer from my Iudge.

8 Voici, si je vais à l'Orient, il n'y est pas; si je vais à l'Occident, je ne le découvre pas.

Behold, if I go to the East, he is not there: if to the West, yet I can not perceiue him:

9 Est-il occupé au Nord, je ne le vois pas. Se cache-t-il au Midi, je ne l'aperçois pas.

If to the North where he worketh, yet I cannot see him: he wil hide himselfe in the South, and I cannot beholde him.

10 Il sait la voie que j'ai suivie; qu'il m'éprouve, j'en sortirai comme l'or.

But he knoweth my way, and trieth mee, and I shall come forth like the gold.

11 Mon pied s'est attaché à ses pas, j'ai gardé sa voie, et je ne m'en suis pas détourné.

My foote hath followed his steps: his way haue I kept, and haue not declined.

12 Je ne me suis point écarté du commandement de ses lèvres, j'ai tenu aux paroles de sa bouche plus qu'à ma provision ordinaire.

Neyther haue I departed from the commandement of his lippes, and I haue esteemed the words of his mouth more then mine appointed foode.

13 Mais il n'a qu'une pensée; qui l'en fera revenir? Ce que son âme désire, il le fait.

Yet he is in one minde, and who can turne him? yea, he doeth what his minde desireth.

14 Il achèvera ce qu'il a décidé de moi, et il a dans l'esprit bien d'autres choses pareilles à celle-ci.

For he will performe that, which is decreed of me, and many such things are with him.

15 C'est pourquoi sa présence m'épouvante; quand j'y pense, j'ai peur de lui.

Therefore I am troubled at his presence, and in considering it, I am afraid of him.

16 Dieu a amolli mon cœur, et le Tout-Puissant m'a épouvanté.

For God hath softened mine heart, and the Almightie hath troubled me.

17 Car je n'ai pas été retranché avant l'arrivée des ténèbres, et il n'a pas éloigné de ma face l'obscurité.

For I am not cut off in darknesse, but he hath hid the darkenesse from my face.
