Isaïe 44
1 Et maintenant, écoute, ô Jacob, mon serviteur, ô Israël que j'ai élu!
Now, then—hear, O Jacob, my Servant, —and Israel whom I have chosen:
2 Ainsi a dit l'Éternel, qui t'a fait, qui t'a formé dès le sein maternel, qui est ton aide: Ne crains point, Jacob, mon serviteur; Jeshurun (Israël), que j'ai élu;
Thus, saith Yahweh—Who made thee and formed thee from birth, Who helpeth thee: Do not fear O my Servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen;
3 Car je répandrai des eaux sur le sol altéré, et des ruisseaux sur la terre sèche; je répandrai mon Esprit sur ta postérité, et ma bénédiction sur ceux qui sortiront de toi.
For I will pour, Water upon the thirsty soil, and Floods upon the dry ground, —I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
4 Ils croîtront comme au milieu de l'herbe, comme les saules auprès des eaux courantes.
So will they spring up among the grass, As willows by the water-courses:
5 L'un dira: Je suis à l'Éternel, l'autre se réclamera du nom de Jacob, et l'autre écrira de sa main: Je suis à l'Éternel, et prendra le nom d'Israël.
This one, will say Yahweh’s, am I, and That one, will call himself by the name of Jacob, and Yonder one will write on his hand—Yahweh’s, And after the name of Israel, will one entitle himself.
6 Ainsi dit l'Éternel, le roi d'Israël et son Rédempteur, l'Éternel des armées: Je suis le premier et je suis le dernier, et il n'y a point d'autre Dieu que moi.
Thus saith Yahweh—King of Israel, Even his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts, —I, am, First, and, I, Last, And besides me, there is no God.
7 Qui a fait entendre sa voix comme moi, - qu'il le déclare et qu'il le prouve! - depuis que j'ai établi le peuple ancien? Qu'ils annoncent l'avenir et ce qui doit arriver!
Who then, like me, can call, and declare it, and order it, for me, Seeing that I appointed an age-abiding people, —Or things yet to be, and that shall come to pass, Let them declare on their part.
8 Ne soyez point effrayés et ne soyez point troublés. Ne te l'ai-je pas fait entendre et annoncé dès longtemps? Et vous êtes mes témoins. Y a-t-il un autre Dieu que moi? Il n'y a pas d'autre rocher; je n'en connais point.
Do not ye dread, nor yet be alarmed, Have I not from olden time, told thee and declared? So that, ye, are my witnesses, —Whether there is a GOD besides me? Or is no Rock—I knew of none!
9 Les faiseurs d'idoles ne sont tous que néant, et leurs plus belles œuvres ne servent à rien; et elles-mêmes le leur témoignent; elles ne voient point et ne connaissent point; c'est pourquoi ils seront rendus honteux.
The fashioners of an image—all of them, are emptiness, And, the things they delight in, cannot profit, —And, their, witnesses, they, neither see nor know, That they may be ashamed.
10 Qui forme un dieu, qui fond une image, pour n'en avoir aucun profit?
Who hath fashioned a GOD, Oran image, hath molten? It cannot profit!
11 Voici, tous ceux qui s'attachent à elles, seront confondus; ces ouvriers-là ne sont que des hommes. Qu'ils s'assemblent, qu'ils comparaissent tous! Ils seront tous effrayés et confondus.
Lo! all his partners, turn pale, Even, the artificers themselves, are of the sons of earth, —Let them gather themselves together—all of them. Let them take their stand, Let them dread, and turn pale, together!
12 Le forgeron fait une hache, et il travaille avec le charbon; il façonne le métal avec le marteau, il le travaille à force de bras; même il a faim et il est sans force; il ne boit point d'eau, et il est épuisé.
As for the smith, [with his] cutting-tool, —When he hath wrought in the live coals, And, with hammers, hath fashioned it, —And hath wrought it with his strong arm, Anon he is hungry, and hath no strength, He hath drunk no water and so hath become faint!
13 Le charpentier tend le cordeau; il marque le bois avec le crayon; il le façonne avec le ciseau, et le marque avec le compas; il en fait une figure d'homme, une belle forme humaine, pour la loger dans une maison.
As for the carpenter, —He hath stretched out a line hath drawn it with a pencil, Hath made it with carving tools, With compasses, hath rounded it, —And so hath made it after the figure of a great man, After the beauty of a son of earth, that it may remain in a house!
14 Il se coupe des cèdres; il prend un rouvre et un chêne, il choisit parmi les arbres de la forêt; il plante un frêne, et la pluie le fait croître.
When one was cutting him down cedars, Then took he a holm-tree and an oak, And secured them for himself, among the trees of the forest, —He planted a fir-tree and the pouring rain made it grow;
15 Ce bois servira à l'homme pour brûler; il en prend, et il se chauffe. Il en fait aussi du feu pour cuire du pain: il en fait aussi un dieu, et se prosterne devant lui; il en fait une idole, et il l'adore.
So it serveth for a man to burn, And he hath taken of the branches and warmed himself, Also he kindleth a fire, and baketh bread, —Also he maketh a GOD, and hath bowed himself down, Hath made of it a carved image, and adored it:
16 Il en brûle au feu la moitié: avec cette moitié il prépare sa viande, il la fait rôtir et se rassasie; il se chauffe aussi, et dit: Ah! Ah! je me réchauffe, je vois la flamme!
The half thereof, hath he burned in the fire, Over half thereof, he eateth flesh, He roasteth roast, that he may be satisfied, —Also he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen a blaze;
17 Puis du reste de ce bois, il fait un dieu, son idole; il l'adore, il se prosterne, il le prie et dit: Délivre-moi, car tu es mon dieu!
And the residue thereof, Into a GOD, he maketh, Into his carved image, —Adoreth it, and boweth down and prayeth unto it, And saith Deliver me, for, my GOD, thou art!
18 Ils ne connaissent et ne comprennent rien; car on a couvert leurs yeux pour ne pas voir, et leur cœur pour ne pas comprendre.
They have not taken note, neither can they perceive, —He hath besmeared—past seeing—their eyes, Past understanding, their hearts;
19 Nul ne rentre en soi-même, et n'a de connaissance ni d'intelligence, pour dire: J'en ai brûlé la moitié au feu; j'ai cuit du pain sur les charbons; j'en ai rôti ma viande et l'ai mangée; et avec le reste je ferais une abomination! J'adorerais un morceau de bois!
And no one reflecteth—There is neither knowledge nor discernment—to say, Half thereof, have I burned up in the fire Moreover also I have baked, on the coals thereof, bread, I roasted flesh, and have been eating, —And of the remainder thereof, an abomination, shall I make? And, to a log of wood, shall I pay adoration?
20 Il se repaît de cendres; son cœur abusé l'égare; il ne délivrera pas son âme, et ne dira pas: N'est-ce pas un mensonge que je tiens dans ma main?
He is feeding on ashes, A deluded heart, hath turned him aside, —And he cannot deliver his own soul nor say, Is there not a falsehood in my right hand?
21 O Jacob, ô Israël, souviens-toi de ceci! Car tu es mon serviteur; je t'ai formé pour être mon serviteur. Israël, ne m'oublie pas!
Remember these things, O Jacob, And, Israel, —for, my Servant, thou art, —I have fashioned thee, a Servant of mine, thou art.
22 J'ai effacé tes forfaits comme une nuée épaisse, et tes péchés comme un nuage. Retourne à moi, car je t'ai racheté.
O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me, I have wiped out, As with a thick cloud, thy transgressions, And as with a broad cloud, thy sins, —Return unto me, for I have redeemed thee.
23 Cieux, jetez des cris de joie! Car l'Éternel a fait son œuvre! Jetez des acclamations, vous les profondeurs de la terre! Montagnes, éclatez en cris de joie, et les forêts, avec tous leurs arbres! Car l'Éternel a racheté Jacob, et il se glorifie en Israël.
Shout in triumph ye heavens for Yahweh, hath effectually wrought. Shout, O ye underparts of the earth, Ring out, Ye mountains, into cries of triumph, Thou forest, and every tree therein, —For, Yahweh, hath redeemed, Jacob, And in Israel, will he get himself glory.
24 Ainsi dit l'Éternel, ton Rédempteur, qui t'a formé dès le sein maternel: C'est moi, l'Éternel, qui ai fait toutes choses, qui seul ai déployé les cieux et qui, par moi-même, étendis la terre;
Thus, saith Yahweh Who hath redeemed thee, Who hath fashioned thee from birth, —I—Yahweh, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens, alone, Spreading forth the earth, of myself;
25 Qui dissipe les présages des menteurs, et rends insensés les devins; qui fais retourner les sages en arrière, et change leur science en folie;
Frustrating the signs of praters, And, diviners, he confoundeth, —Turning wise men backwards, And their knowledge, he maketh folly;
26 Qui confirme la parole de mon serviteur, et accomplis le conseil de mes envoyés; qui dis de Jérusalem: Elle sera habitée, et des villes de Juda: Elles seront rebâties, et je relèverai leurs ruines;
Establishing the word of his Servant, And the counsel of his Messengers, he maketh good, —Who saith of Jerusalem—She shall be inhabited! And of the cities of Judah—They shall be built! And the ruins thereof, will I set up!
27 Qui dis à l'abîme: Sois desséché, et je tarirai tes fleuves!
Who saith to the deep—Be dry and Thy rivers, will I drain!
28 Qui dis de Cyrus: Il est mon pasteur, il accomplira toute ma volonté, en disant à Jérusalem: Sois rebâtie, et au temple: Tu seras fondé!
Who saith of Cyrus—My Shepherd! and All my pleasure, shall he make good Even saying of Jerusalem—She shall be built! And of the temple—Be her foundation laid!
