Genèse 30

1 Alors Rachel, voyant qu'elle ne donnait point d'enfant à Jacob, fut jalouse de sa sœur, et dit à Jacob: Donne-moi des enfants; sinon je suis morte.

And when Rahel saw that she bare Iaakob no children, Rahel enuied her sister, and said vnto Iaakob, Giue me children, or els I dye.

2 Et la colère de Jacob s'enflamma contre Rachel, et il dit: Suis-je à la place de Dieu, qui t'a refusé la fécondité

Then Iaakobs anger was kindled against Rahel, and he sayde, Am I in Gods steade, which hath withholden from thee the fruite of the wombe?

3 Et elle dit: Voici ma servante Bilha; viens vers elle, et elle enfantera sur mes genoux, et j'aurai, moi aussi, des enfants par elle.

And she said, Behold my maide Bilhah, goe in to her, and she shall beare vpon my knees, and I shall haue children also by her.

4 Elle lui donna donc pour femme Bilha, sa servante; et Jacob vint vers elle.

Then shee gaue him Bilhah her mayde to wife, and Iaakob went in to her.

5 Et Bilha conçut, et enfanta un fils à Jacob.

So Bilhah conceiued and bare Iaakob a sonne.

6 Et Rachel dit: Dieu m'a rendu justice, et il a aussi exaucé ma voix, et m'a donné un fils; c'est pourquoi elle l'appela Dan (juge).

Then said Rahel, God hath giuen sentence on my side, and hath also heard my voyce, and hath giuen mee a sonne: therefore called shee his name, Dan.

7 Et Bilha, servante de Rachel, conçut encore et enfanta un second fils à Jacob.

And Bilhah Rahels maide coceiued againe, and bare Iaakob the second sonne.

8 Et Rachel dit: J'ai soutenu contre ma sœur des luttes de Dieu; j'ai même eu la victoire; et elle lui donna le nom de Nephthali (ma lutte).

Then Rahel said, with excellent wrestlings haue I wrestled with my sister, and haue gotten the vpper hande: and shee called his name, Naphtali.

9 Alors Léa, voyant qu'elle avait cessé d'avoir des enfants, prit Zilpa, sa servante, et la donna pour femme à Jacob.

And when Leah saw that she had left bearing, shee tooke Zilpah her mayde, and gaue her Iaakob to wife.

10 Et Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un fils à Jacob.

And Zilpah Leahs mayde bare Iaakob a sonne.

11 Et Léa dit: Quel bonheur! Et elle l'appela Gad (bonheur).

Then sayd Leah, A companie commeth: and she called his name, Gad.

12 Et Zilpa, servante de Léa, enfanta un second fils à Jacob.

Againe Zilpah Leahs mayde bare Iaakob another sonne.

13 Et Léa dit: Que je suis heureuse! car les filles me diront heureuse; et elle l'appela Asser (heureux).

Then sayde Leah, Ah, blessed am I, for the daughters will blesse me. and she called his name, Asher.

14 Et Ruben s'en alla au temps de la moisson des blés, et trouva des mandragores dans les champs, et les apporta à Léa, sa mère. Et Rachel dit à Léa: Donne-moi, je te prie, des mandragores de ton fils.

Nowe Reuben went in the dayes of the wheateharuest, and founde mandrakes in the fielde and brought them vnto his mother Leah. Then sayde Rahel to Leah, Giue me, I pray thee, of thy sonnes mandrakes.

15 Et elle lui répondit: Est-ce peu d'avoir pris mon mari, que tu veuilles encore prendre les mandragores de mon fils? Et Rachel dit: Eh bien! qu'il couche avec toi cette nuit en échange des mandragores de ton fils.

But shee answered her, Is it a small matter for thee to take mine husband, except thou take my sonnes mandrakes also? Then sayde Rahel, Therefore he shall sleepe with thee this night for thy sonnes mandrakes.

16 Et lorsque Jacob revint des champs le soir, Léa alla au-devant de lui, et dit: Tu viendras vers moi; car je t'ai loué pour les mandragores de mon fils; et il coucha avec elle cette nuit-là.

And Iaakob came from the fielde in the euening, and Leah went out to meete him, and sayde, Come in to mee, for I haue bought and payed for thee with my sonnes mandrakes: and he slept with her that night.

17 Et Dieu exauça Léa, et elle conçut, et enfanta à Jacob un cinquième fils.

And God heard Leah and shee conceiued, and bare vnto Iaakob the fift sonne.

18 Et elle dit: Dieu m'a donné mon salaire, pour avoir donné ma servante à mon mari; et elle l'appela Issacar (il y a salaire).

Then said Leah, God hath giuen me my reward, because I gaue my mayde to my husband, and she called his name Issachar.

19 Et Léa conçut encore, et enfanta un sixième fils à Jacob,

After, Leah conceiued againe, and bare Iaakob the sixt sonne.

20 Et Léa dit: Dieu m'a donné un bon douaire; cette fois mon mari habitera avec moi; car je lui ai enfanté six fils. Et elle l'appela Zabulon (habitation).

Then Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowrie: nowe will mine husband dwell with me, because I haue borne him sixe sonnes: and she called his name Zebulun.

21 Ensuite elle enfanta une fille, et elle l'appela Dina.

After that, shee bare a daughter, and shee called her name Dinah.

22 Et Dieu se souvint de Rachel, et Dieu l'exauça et la rendit féconde.

And God remembred Rahel, and God heard her, and opened her wombe.

23 Et elle conçut, et enfanta un fils, et dit: Dieu a ôté mon opprobre;

So she conceiued and bare a sonne, and said, God hath taken away my rebuke.

24 Et elle l'appela Joseph (il ôte ou il ajoute), en disant: Que l'Éternel m'ajoute encore un autre fils!

And shee called his name Ioseph, saying, The Lord wil giue me yet another sonne.

25 Et lorsque Rachel eut enfanté Joseph, Jacob dit à Laban: Donne-moi mon congé, que je m'en aille en mon lieu, dans mon pays.

And assoone as Rahel had borne Ioseph, Iaakob said to Laban, Sende me away that I may go vnto my place and to my countrey.

26 Donne-moi mes femmes et mes enfants, pour lesquels je t'ai servi, et que je m'en aille; car tu sais le service que j'ai fait pour toi.

Giue me my wiues and my children, for whom I haue serued thee, and let me go: for thou knowest what seruice I haue done thee.

27 Et Laban lui répondit: Puissé-je avoir trouvé grâce à tes yeux; car j'ai deviné que l'Éternel m'a béni à cause de toi.

To whom Laban answered, If I haue nowe found fauour in thy sight tarie: I haue perceiued that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.

28 Puis il dit: Fixe-moi ton salaire, et je te le donnerai.

Also he said, Appoynt vnto me thy wages, and I will giue it thee.

29 Et il lui répondit: Tu sais comment je t'ai servi, et ce qu'est devenu ton bétail avec moi.

But he sayd vnto him, Thou knowest, what seruice I haue done thee, and in what taking thy cattell hath bene vnder me.

30 Car ce que tu avais avant moi était peu de chose; mais depuis il s'est fort accru, et l'Éternel t'a béni depuis que j'ai mis le pied chez toi; et maintenant, quand travaillerai-je aussi pour ma maison?

For the litle, that thou haddest before I came, is increased into a multitude: and the Lord hath blessed thee by my comming: but nowe when shall I trauell for mine owne house also?

31 Et Laban lui dit: Que te donnerai-je? Et Jacob répondit: Tu ne me donneras rien. Je paîtrai encore tes troupeaux, et je les garderai, si tu fais ceci pour moi:

Then he saide, What shall I giue thee? And Iaakob answered, Thou shalt giue mee nothing at all: if thou wilt doe this thing for mee, I will returne, feede, and keepe thy sheepe.

32 Je passerai aujourd'hui parmi tous tes troupeaux; ôtes-en toute bête picotée et tachetée, et toute bête noire parmi les agneaux, et ce qui est tacheté et picoté parmi les chèvres; et ce sera mon salaire.

I wil passe through all thy flockes this day, and separate from them all the sheepe with litle spots and great spots, and al blacke lambes among the sheepe, and the great spotted, and litle spotted among the goates: and it shalbe my wages.

33 Et ma justice me rendra témoignage à l'avenir devant toi, quand tu viendras reconnaître mon salaire. Tout ce qui ne sera point picoté ou tacheté parmi les chèvres, et noir parmi les agneaux, aura été volé, s'il est trouvé chez moi.

So shall my righteousnesse answere for me hereafter, when it shall come for my rewarde before thy face, and euery one that hath not litle or great spots among the goates, and blacke among the sheepe, the same shalbe theft with me.

34 Alors Laban dit: Eh bien! qu'il en soit comme tu dis.

Then Laban sayde, Goe to, woulde God it might be according to thy saying.

35 Et le jour même il sépara les boucs rayés et tachetés, et toutes les chèvres picotées et tachetées, tout ce qui avait du blanc, et tout ce qui était noir parmi les agneaux; et il les confia à ses fils.

Therefore he tooke out the same day the hee goates that were partie coloured and with great spots, and all the shee goates with litle and great spots, and all that had white in them, and all the blacke among the sheepe, and put them in the keeping of his sonnes.

36 Et il mit l'espace de trois jours de chemin entre lui et Jacob. Et Jacob paissait le reste des troupeaux de Laban.

And hee set three dayes iourney betweene himselfe and Iaakob. And Iaakob kept the rest of Labans sheepe.

37 Alors Jacob prit des branches vertes de peuplier, d'amandier et de platane, et y fit des raies blanches, en découvrant le blanc qui était aux branches.

Then Iaakob tooke rods of greene popular, and of hasell, and of the chesnut tree, and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appeare in the rods.

38 Et il mit les branches qu'il avait pelées, dans les auges, dans les abreuvoirs où les brebis venaient boire, en face des brebis; et elles entraient en chaleur, quand elles venaient boire.

Then he put the rods, which he had pilled, in the gutters and watering troughes, when the sheepe came to drink, before the sheepe. (for they were in heate, when they came to drinke)

39 Les brebis entraient donc en chaleur à la vue des branches, et elles faisaient des agneaux rayés, picotés et tachetés.

And the sheepe were in heate before the rods, and afterward brought forth yong of partie colour, and with small and great spots.

40 Et Jacob partageait les agneaux, et mettait les brebis du troupeau de Laban en face de ce qui était rayé, et de tout ce qui était noir; et il mit ses troupeaux à part, et ne les mit point auprès des troupeaux de Laban.

And Iaakob parted these lambes, and turned the faces of the flocke towardes these lambes partie coloured and all maner of blacke, among the sheepe of Laban: so hee put his owne flockes by themselues, and put them not with Labans flocke.

41 Et il arrivait que toutes les fois que les brebis vigoureuses entraient en chaleur, Jacob mettait les branches sous les yeux du troupeau dans les auges, afin qu'elles entrassent en chaleur auprès des branches.

And in euery ramming time of the stronger sheepe, Iaakob layde the rods before the eyes of the sheepe in the gutters, that they might conceiue before the rods.

42 Mais quand les brebis étaient chétives, il ne les mettait point. En sorte que les agneaux chétifs étaient pour Laban, et les vigoureux pour Jacob.

But when the sheepe were feeble, hee put them not in: and so the feebler were Labans, and the stronger Iaakobs.

43 Et cet homme devint extrêmement riche, et il eut de nombreux troupeaux, des servantes et des serviteurs, des chameaux et des ânes.

So the man increased exceedingly, and had many flockes, and maide seruantes, and men seruants, and camels and asses.
