Exode 11

1 Or l'Éternel avait dit à Moïse: Je ferai venir encore une plaie sur Pharaon et sur l'Égypte; après cela, il vous laissera partir d'ici. Quand il vous laissera aller tout à fait, il vous chassera d'ici.

Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “I will cause one more disaster to strike the king of Egypt and all his people [MTY]. After that, he will let you leave. In fact, he will expel you all.

2 Parle donc au peuple, et dis-leur qu'ils demandent, chacun à son voisin et chacune à sa voisine, des objets d'argent et d'or.

So now speak to all the [Israeli] people. Tell them to ask all their [Egyptian] neighbors, both men and women, to give them some silver and gold jewelry.”

3 Et l'Éternel fit trouver grâce au peuple devant les Égyptiens; et même Moïse était un fort grand homme dans le pays d'Égypte, aux yeux des serviteurs de Pharaon et aux yeux du peuple.

Yahweh made the Egyptians highly respect the Israeli people. In particular, the Egyptian officials and all [the rest of] the people considered Moses/me to be a very great man.

4 Et Moïse dit: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel: Sur le minuit, je passerai au milieu de l'Égypte.

Then Moses/I [went to the king and] said, “This is what Yahweh says: ‘About midnight [tonight] I will go throughout Egypt,

5 Et tout premier-né mourra au pays d'Égypte, depuis le premier-né de Pharaon, qui est assis sur son trône, jusqu'au premier-né de la servante qui est derrière la meule, ainsi que tout premier-né des bêtes.

and I will cause all the firstborn/oldest [sons] to die. That will include your oldest son, the oldest sons of the slave women who grind grain, [and the oldest sons of everyone else]. I will also kill the oldest males of the Egyptians’ livestock.

6 Et il y aura un si grand cri dans tout le pays d'Égypte, qu'il n'y en eut jamais et qu'il n'y en aura plus de semblable.

When that happens, people all over Egypt will wail loudly. They have never wailed like that before, and they will never wail like that again.

7 Mais, parmi tous les enfants d'Israël, pas même un chien ne remuera sa langue, depuis l'homme jusqu'aux bêtes; afin que vous sachiez quelle différence l'Éternel met entre les Égyptiens et Israël.

But among the Israeli people [it will be so quiet that] not even a dog will bark! Then you will know for sure that I, Yahweh, distinguish [how I act toward] the Egyptians and [how I act toward] the Israeli people.

8 Et tous tes serviteurs que voici descendront vers moi, et se prosterneront devant moi, en disant: Sors, toi, et tout le peuple qui te suit! Et, après cela, je sortirai. Et Moïse sortit d'auprès de Pharaon dans une ardente colère.

Then all these officials of yours will come and bow down before me and will say, “Please get out [of Egypt], you and all the Israeli people!”’ After that, I will leave Egypt!” [After Moses/I said that], he/I very angrily left the king.

9 Or l'Éternel avait dit à Moïse: Pharaon ne vous écoutera point, afin que mes miracles se multiplient dans le pays d'Égypte.

Then Yahweh said to Moses/me, “The king will not pay any attention to what you say. The result will be that I will perform more plagues in the land of Egypt.”

10 Et Moïse et Aaron firent tous ces miracles devant Pharaon. Mais l'Éternel endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et il ne laissa point aller les enfants d'Israël hors de son pays.

Aaron and Moses/I performed all these miracles in front of the king, but Yahweh made the king stubborn, and he did not let the Israeli people leave his country.
