Luc 2
1 En ce temps-là parut un édit de César-Auguste, portant l'ordre de faire le recensement des habitants de toute la terre.
And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world be registered—
2 Ce recensement, le premier qui eut lieu, se fit pendant que Quirinius était gouverneur de Syrie.
this census first came to pass when Quirinius was governor of Syria—
3 Tous allaient se faire enregistrer, chacun dans sa ville.
and all were going to be registered, each to his proper city,
4 Joseph aussi, qui était de la maison et de la famille de David, partit de la ville de Nazareth en Galilée, pour se rendre en Judée, dans la ville de David, appelée Bethléhem,
and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Beth-Lehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,
5 afin de se faire enregistrer avec Marie, qui lui était fiancée, et qui était enceinte.
to register himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with Child.
6 Pendant qu'ils étaient à Bethléhem, le moment de la délivrance de Marie arriva:
And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth,
7 elle mit au monde son fils premier-né, l'emmaillota et le coucha dans une crèche, parce qu'il ne se trouvait pas de place pour eux dans l'hôtellerie.
and she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and wrapped Him up, and laid Him down in the manger, because there was not a place for them in the guest-chamber.
8 Il y avait, dans cette contrée, des bergers qui passaient la nuit en plein air, pour garder leurs troupeaux.
And there were shepherds in the same region, lodging in the field and keeping the night-watches over their flock,
9 Tout à coup un ange du Seigneur leur apparut, et, la gloire du Seigneur les enveloppant de son éclat, ils furent saisis d'une grande frayeur.
and behold, a messenger of the LORD stood over them, and the glory of the LORD shone around them, and they feared [with] a great fear.
10 L'ange leur dit: «Ne craignez point, car je viens vous donner une heureuse nouvelle, qui causera une grande joie à tout le peuple:
And the messenger said to them, “Do not fear, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be to all the people,
11 c'est qu'aujourd'hui, dans la ville de David, il vous est né un Sauveur, qui est Messie, Seigneur;
because today in the city of David a Savior was born to you, who is Christ the LORD!
12 et voici à quel signe vous le reconnaîtrez: vous trouverez un enfant emmailloté, couché dans une crèche.»
And this [is] the sign to you: you will find a Baby wrapped up, lying in the manger.”
13 Soudain, il se joignit à l'ange une troupe nombreuse de l'armée céleste, qui louait Dieu et disait:
And suddenly there came with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,
14 «Gloire à Dieu dans les lieux très-hauts! Et paix sur la terre parmi les hommes de bonne volonté!»
“Glory in the highest to God, and on earth peace, among men—good will!”
15 Lorsque les anges les eurent quittés pour remonter au ciel, les bergers se dirent les uns aux autres: «Allons jusqu’à Bethléhem voir ce qui est arrivé, et que le Seigneur nous a fait savoir.»
And it came to pass, when the messengers were gone away from them to the heavens, that the men, the shepherds, said to one another, “We may indeed go over to Beth-Lehem and see this thing that has come to pass, that the LORD made known to us!”
16 Ils s'y rendirent en toute hâte, et trouvèrent Marie, Joseph, et le nouveau-né couché dans la crèche.
And they came, having hurried, and found both Mary, and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger,
17 Après l'avoir vu, ils divulguèrent ce qui leur avait été dit touchant ce petit enfant,
and having seen, they made known abroad concerning the saying spoken to them concerning the Child.
18 et tous ceux qui les entendirent, furent étonnés de ce que les bergers disaient.
And all who heard [it] wondered concerning the things spoken to them by the shepherds;
19 Pour Marie, elle gardait toutes ces paroles et les repassait dans son coeur.
and Mary was preserving all these things, pondering [them] in her heart;
20 Les bergers s'en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de tout ce qu'ils avaient entendu et vu, conformément à ce qui leur avait été annoncé.
and the shepherds turned back, glorifying and praising God for all those things they heard and saw, as it was spoken to them.
21 Le huitième jour, on circoncit l'enfant, et on le nomma Jésus, nom que l'ange lui avait donné, avant qu'il eût été conçu dans le sein de sa mère.
And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the Child, then was His Name called Jesus, having been so called by the messenger before His being conceived in the womb.
22 Et quand, selon la loi de Moïse, le jour de leur purification fut arrivé, les parents le portèrent à Jérusalem, pour le présenter au Seigneur,
And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the Law of Moses, they brought Him up to Jerusalem, to present to the LORD,
23 selon qu'il est écrit dans la Loi: «Tout mâle premier-né sera consacré au Seigneur, »
as it has been written in the Law of the LORD: “Every male opening a womb will be called holy to the LORD,”
24 ainsi que pour offrir en sacrifice «une paire de tourterelles ou deux jeunes pigeons, » comme le porte la loi du Seigneur.
and to give a sacrifice, according to that said in the Law of the LORD: “A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.”
25 Or, il y avait à Jérusalem un homme juste et pieux, nommé Syméon, qui vivait dans l'attente de la consolation d'Israël; et le Saint-Esprit reposait sur lui.
And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name [is] Simeon, and this man is righteous and devout, looking for the comforting of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him,
26 Il avait été averti par l'Esprit Saint qu'il ne mourrait point avant d'avoir vu l'Oint du Seigneur.
and it has been divinely told him by the Holy Spirit—not to see death before he may see the Christ of the LORD.
27 Syméon vint au temple par un mouvement de l'Esprit, et quand les parents y apportèrent l'enfant Jésus, pour accomplir à son égard les cérémonies d'usage selon la Loi,
And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and in the parents bringing in the child Jesus, for their doing according to the custom of the Law regarding Him,
28 il reçut l'enfant dans ses bras, bénit Dieu, et dit:
then he took Him in his arms, and blessed God, and he said,
29 «C'est maintenant, Maître, que, selon ta parole, tu laisses ton serviteur s'en aller en paix;
“Now You send Your servant away, O LORD, according to Your word, in peace,
30 car mes yeux ont vu ton salut,
because my eyes saw Your salvation,
31 ce salut qui est prêt à paraître devant tous les peuples,
which You prepared before the face of all the peoples,
32 comme une lumière destinée à éclairer les nations, et comme la gloire de ton peuple d'Israël.»
a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
33 Le père et la mère de l’enfant étaient dans l'admiration des choses qu'on disait de lui.
And Joseph and His mother were wondering at the things spoken concerning Him,
34 Syméon les bénit, et il dit à Marie, sa mère: «Cet enfant sera cause de la chute et du relèvement de bien des gens en Israël, et il sera un prodige qui rencontrera de la contradiction,
and Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary, “Behold, this [One] is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against—
35 afin que les pensées de bien des coeurs soient dévoilées; pour toi, un glaive te traversera l'âme.»
(and also a sword will pass through your own soul)—that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.”
36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse nommée Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d'Asser, qui était fort avancée en âge. Après avoir vécu sept ans mariée depuis sa virginité,
And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, she was much advanced in days, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
37 elle était demeurée veuve, et avait atteint l'âge de quatre-vingt-quatre ans, ne quittant pas le temple, où elle servait Dieu, jour et nuit, dans le jeûne et dans la prière.
and she [is] a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, serving with fasts and supplications, night and day,
38 Étant survenue, elle aussi, en ce même instant, elle se mit à louer le Seigneur, et elle parlait de l'enfant à tous ceux qui, à Jérusalem, attendaient la délivrance.
and she, at that hour, having come in, was confessing, likewise, to the LORD, and was speaking concerning Him to all those looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 Quand Joseph et Marie eurent achevé d'accomplir toutes les prescriptions de la loi du Seigneur, ils s'en retournèrent en Galilée, dans leur ville de Nazareth.
And when they completed all things according to the Law of the LORD, they turned back to Galilee, to their city of Nazareth;
40 Cependant l'enfant croissait et se fortifiait, rempli de sagesse; et la grâce de Dieu se répandait sur lui.
and the Child grew and was strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on Him.
41 Son père et sa mère allaient tous les ans à Jérusalem, à la fête de Pâque.
And His parents were going yearly to Jerusalem, at the Celebration of the Passover,
42 Quand il eut douze ans, ils y montèrent selon la coutume; et lorsqu'ils s'en retournèrent après les jours de fête,
and when He became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the celebration,
43 l'enfant Jésus resta à Jérusalem, sans que Joseph ni sa mère s'en fussent aperçus.
and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and His mother did not know,
44 Ils firent une journée de chemin, le croyant dans la caravane, et le cherchèrent parmi leurs parents et leurs connaissances;
and having supposed Him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and were seeking Him among the relatives and among the acquaintances,
45 et ne l'ayant point trouvé, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem pour le chercher.
and having not found Him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking Him.
46 Au bout de trois jours, ils le trouvèrent dans le temple, assis au milieu des docteurs, les écoutant et leur adressant des questions;
And it came to pass, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them,
47 et tous ceux qui l'entendaient étaient ravis de son intelligence et de ses réponses.
and all those hearing Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
48 Quand Joseph et Marie le virent, ils furent frappés d'étonnement, et sa mère lui dit: «Mon enfant, pourquoi te conduire ainsi avec nous? Nous te cherchions, ton père et moi, étant fort en peine.»
And having seen Him, they were amazed, and His mother said to Him, “Child, why did You do this to us? Behold, Your father and I, sorrowing, were seeking You.”
49 Il leur dit: «Pourquoi me cherchiez-vous? Ne saviez-vous pas que je dois être dans la maison de mon Père?»
And He said to them, “Why [is it] that you were seeking Me? Did you not know that it is necessary for Me to be in the things of My Father?”
50 Et ils ne comprirent point ce qu'il leur disait.
And they did not understand the saying that He spoke to them,
51 Il descendit avec eux, allant à Nazareth. Il leur était soumis. Sa mère gardait soigneusement toutes ces choses dans son coeur;
and He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and He was subject to them, and His mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,
52 et Jésus croissait en sagesse, en stature et en grâce, devant Dieu et devant les hommes.
and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favor with God and men.
