Jean 1
1 Au commencement était la Parole; la Parole était avec Dieu, et la Parole était dieu.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Elle était au commencement avec Dieu.
The same was in the beginning with God.
3 Toutes choses ont été faites par elle, et rien de ce qui a été fait, n'a été fait sans elle.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 En elle était la vie, et cette vie était la lumière des hommes:
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 la lumière brille dans les ténèbres, mais les ténèbres ne l'ont point reçue.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 Un homme parut; il était envoyé de Dieu, son nom était Jean.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 Il vint pour un témoignage, pour rendre témoignage à la Lumière, afin que tous crussent par lui:
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 il n'était pas la Lumière, mais il devait rendre témoignage à la Lumière.
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 La véritable Lumière, qui éclaire tout homme, était entrée dans le monde;
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 elle était dans le monde, et le monde a été fait par elle, mais le monde ne l'a point connue.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 Elle est venue chez les siens, et les siens ne l'ont point reçue;
He came to his own, and his own received him not.
12 mais à tous ceux qui l'ont reçue, à tous ceux qui croient en son nom, elle a donné la prérogative d'être enfants de Dieu:
But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 enfants, qui ne sont pas nés du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l'homme, mais qui sont nés de Dieu.
Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 Et la Parole a été faite chair; elle a habité au milieu de nous pleine de grâce et de vérité, et nous avons contemplé sa gloire, une gloire comme celle d'un fils unique envoyé par son père.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.
15 Jean lui rend témoignage, quand il dit à haute voix: «Voici celui dont je disais: Celui qui vient après moi. a pris le pas devant moi, parce qu'il est plus grand que moi.»
John bore witness concerning him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 C'est de sa plénitude que nous avons tous reçu grâce sur grâce;
And of his fulness have we all received, and grace for grace.
17 car la Loi a été donnée par Moïse; mais la Grâce et la Vérité sont venues par Jésus-Christ.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 Personne n'a jamais vu Dieu; le Fils unique, qui est dans le sein du Père, est celui qui l'a révélé.
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
19 Voici le témoignage que rendit Jean, lorsque les Juifs envoyèrent de Jérusalem des sacrificateurs et des lévites pour lui adresser cette question: «Qui es-tu?»
And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
20 Il le déclara, et ne le nia point; il déclara qu'il n'était pas le Messie.
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 — «Quoi donc! Es-tu Élie?» lui demandèrent-ils; et il dit: «Je ne le suis point.» - «Es-tu le Prophète?» et il répondit: «Non.»
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
22 Ils lui dirent donc: «Qui es-tu? afin que nous rendions réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu que tu es?»
Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
23 — «Moi, dit-il, je suis «une voix qui crie au désert: Redressez le chemin du Seigneur, » comme a dit le prophète Ésaïe.
He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
24 Ceux qu'on avait envoyés étaient des pharisiens.
And they who were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 Ils insistèrent, et lui dirent: «Pourquoi donc baptises-tu, si tu n'es pas le Messie, ni même Elie ou le Prophète?»
And they asked him, and said to him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?
26 Jean leur répondit: «Pour moi, je baptise d'eau, mais il y a au milieu de vous quelqu'un que vous ne connaissez pas:
John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 c'est celui qui vient après moi; je ne suis pas digne de délier la courroie de ses sandales.»
He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to loose.
28 Ces choses se passèrent à Béthanie, au delà du Jourdain, où Jean baptisait.
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Le lendemain, Jean vit Jésus qui venait vers lui, et il dit: «Voici l'agneau de Dieu qui ôte le péché du monde.»
The next day John seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.
30 C'est de lui que j'ai dit: Il vient après moi un homme qui a pris le pas devant moi, parce qu'il est plus grand que moi.
This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 Je ne le connaissais pas; mais je suis venu baptiser d'eau, afin qu'il fût manifesté à Israël»
And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing in water.
32 et Jean avait rendu ce témoignage: «J'ai vu l'Esprit descendre du ciel comme une colombe, et demeurer sur lui.»
And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he abode upon him.
33 Je ne le connaissais pas; mais celui-là même qui m'a envoyé baptiser d'eau m'a dit: «Celui sur qui tu verras l'Esprit descendre et demeurer, c'est lui qui baptise d'esprit saint.»
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.
34 Je l'ai vu, et j'ai rendu témoignage que c'est lui qui est le Fils de Dieu.»
And I saw, and bore witness that this is the Son of God.
35 Le lendemain, Jean se trouvait là de nouveau, avec deux de ses disciples;
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 et, ayant considéré Jésus qui passait, il dit: «Voilà l'agneau de Dieu.»
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 Ces deux disciples l'ayant entendu parler de la sorte, suivirent Jésus.
And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Jésus s'étant retourné, et voyant qu'ils le suivaient, leur dit. «Que cherchez- vous?» Ils lui dirent: «Rabbi, »(ce qui signifie Maître) «où demeures-tu?»
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith to them, What seek ye? They said to him, Rabbi, ( which is to say, being interpreted, Master, ) where dwellest thou?
39 — «Venez, leur dit-il, et vous verrez. Ils allèrent, et ils virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent auprès de lui ce jour-là. C'était environ la dixième heure du jour.
He saith to them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 André, frère de Simon-Pierre, était l'un des deux disciples qui avaient entendu la parole de Jean, et qui avaient suivi Jésus.
One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 Il rencontra, le premier, son frère Simon, et il lui dit: «Nous avons trouvé le Messie» (ce qui signifie Christ);
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
42 et il le mena vers Jésus. Celui-ci, l'ayant considéré, lui dit: «Tu es Simon, fils de Jona; on t'appellera Céphas» (ce qui signifie Pierre).
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonah: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43 Le lendemain, Jésus résolut de partir pour la Galilée. Il rencontra Philippe, et lui dit: «Suis-moi.»
The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith to him, Follow me.
44 Philippe était de la ville de Bethsaïde, d'où étaient aussi André et Pierre.
Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philippe rencontra Nathanaël, et lui dit: «Nous avons trouvé celui dont Moïse a parlé dans la Loi, et que les prophètes ont annoncé; c'est Jésus, fils de Joseph, de Nazareth.»
Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 Nathanaël lui dit: «Peut-il sortir de Nazareth quelque chose de bon?» Philippe lui répondit: «Viens et vois.»
And Nathanael said to him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
47 Jésus voyant venir Nathanaël, dit en parlant de lui: «Voici un vrai Israélite, un homme sans détour.»
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 — «D'où me connais-tu?» lui dit Nathanaël. Jésus lui répondit: «Avant que Philippe t'appelât, je t'ai vu sous le figuier.»
Nathanael saith to him, How knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 — «Maître, lui repartit Nathanaël, tu es le Fils de Dieu, tu es le roi d'Israël.»
Nathanael answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jésus répondit et lui dit: «Parce que je t'ai dit que je t'ai vu sous le figuier, tu crois! Tu verras de plus grandes choses que celles-là.»
Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 Et il ajouta: «En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous verrez désormais le ciel ouvert, et les anges de Dieu monter et descendre sur le Fils de l'homme.
And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, After this ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
