Jacques 1
1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la dispersion, salut!
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.
2 Mes frères, considérez comme le sujet d'une joie entière les épreuves diverses par lesquelles vous passez,
Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;
3 sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit la constance.
Knowing that the proof of your faith worketh patience.
4 Mais que la constance soit accompagnée de l'oeuvre, d’une oeuvre parfaite, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, ne laissant à désirer en rien.
And let patience have [its] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.
5 Si quelqu'un parmi vous manque de sagesse, qu'il la demande à Dieu qui donne à tous généreusement, sans rien reprocher: elle lui sera donnée.
But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 Mais qu'il demande avec foi, sans hésiter, car celui qui hésite est semblable au flot de la mer, agité et ballotté par le vent;
But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.
7 que cet homme-là, homme irrésolu, inconstant dans toutes ses voies,
For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;
8 ne s'imagine pas qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur.
a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.
9 Que le frère de condition humble se glorifie de son élévation,
But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:
10 et le riche, de ce qui l'humilie, parce qu'il passera comme la fleur de l'herbe:
and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 le soleil s'est levé, sa chaleur brûlante a desséché l'herbe, et la fleur de l'herbe est tombée, et la beauté de sa forme a péri: ainsi se flétrira le riche au milieu de ses entreprises.
For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.
12 Heureux l'homme qui supporte l'épreuve avec constance, car lorsqu'il sera devenu un homme éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which [the Lord] promised to them that love him.
13 Que personne, lorsqu'il est tenté, ne dise: «C'est Dieu qui me tente, » car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et il ne tente personne.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:
14 Chacun est tenté, quand il est attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise;
but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
15 puis, la convoitise, ayant conçu, enfante le péché; et le péché, étant consommé, produit la mort.
Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.
16 Ne vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés,
Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.
17 tout bon présent et tout don parfait descendent d'en haut, du Père des lumières, en qui il n'y a ni changement ni ombre de variation.
Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.
18 C'est lui qui, par sa volonté, nous a enfantés par la parole de vérité, pour que nous soyons l'élite en quelque sorte de ses créatures.
Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Sachez-le bien, mes chers frères. Que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à se mettre en colère,
Ye know [this], my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 car la colère de l'homme n'exécute pas la justice de Dieu.
for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout reste de méchanceté, accueillez avec douceur la parole qui a été plantée en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes.
Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 Mais mettez-la en pratique, et ne vous contentez pas de l'écouter, en vous trompant par de faux raisonnements.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.
23 Car si quelqu'un écoute la Parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui considère dans un miroir son visage naturel,
For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
24 et qui, après s'être considéré, s'en va, et oublie aussitôt quel il est.
for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 Mais celui qui aura plongé ses regards dans la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui les y tiendra attachés, non en auditeur oublieux, mais en observateur du commandement, celui-là trouvera son bonheur dans son obéissance.
But he that looketh into the perfect law, the [law] of liberty, and [so] continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth, but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.
26 Si quelqu'un croit être religieux, et qu'il ne tienne pas sa langue en bride, il se trompe lui-même, et sa religion est vaine.
If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 La religion pure et sans tache devant Dieu, notre Père, consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leur affliction, et à se préserver des souillures du monde.
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.
