Actes 12
1 Vers ce temps-là, le roi Hérode fit arrêter quelques-uns des membres de l'église, pour les maltraiter.
At that time Herod the king laid his hands on some of those of the assembly to do them hurt,
2 Il fit mourir par le glaive Jacques, le frère de Jean,
and slew James, the brother of John, with the sword.
3 et voyant que cela était agréable aux Juifs, il fit encore prendre Pierre. On était aux jours des pains sans levain.
And seeing that it was pleasing to the Jews, he went on to take Peter also: (and they were the days of unleavened bread: )
4 L'ayant aussi arrêté, il le fit mettre en prison, et le confia à la garde de quatre escouades de quatre soldats chacune, dans l'intention de le faire exécuter devant le peuple, après Pâque.
whom having seized he put in prison, having delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep, purposing after the passover to bring him out to the people.
5 Pierre était donc gardé dans la prison, et l'église ne cessait de prier Dieu pour lui.
Peter therefore was kept in the prison; but unceasing prayer was made by the assembly to God concerning him.
6 La nuit même qui précéda le jour où Hérode devait le faire exécuter, Pierre, lié de deux chaînes, dormait entre deux soldats, pendant que des sentinelles faisaient la garde devant les portes de la prison.
And when Herod was going to bring him forth, that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and guards before the door kept the prison.
7 Tout à coup un ange du Seigneur apparut, et une lumière resplendit dans le cachot. L'ange poussant Pierre par le côté, l'éveilla, et lui dit: «Lève-toi promptement; » et les chaînes tombèrent de ses mains.
And lo, an angel of [the] Lord came there, and a light shone in the prison: and having smitten the side of Peter, he roused him up, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off his hands.
8 L'ange lui dit: «Ceins-toi, et chausse tes sandales.» Pierre obéit. L'ange ajouta: «Mets ton manteau, et suis-moi; »
And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he says to him, Cast thine upper garment about thee and follow me.
9 et Pierre sortit du cachot et le suivit, sans savoir que ce que faisait l’ange fût réel: il croyait avoir une vision.
And going forth he followed [him] and did not know that what was happening by means of the angel was real, but supposed he saw a vision.
10 Lorsqu'ils eurent passé la première garde et la seconde, ils arrivèrent à la porte de fer qui donne sur la ville; elle s'ouvrit d'elle-même devant eux, et, étant sortis, ils s'engagèrent dans une rue. Aussitôt l'ange le quitta.
And having passed through a first and second guard, they came to the iron gate which leads into the city, which opened to them of itself; and going forth they went down one street, and immediately the angel left him.
11 Pierre étant revenu à lui-même, se dit: «Je vois maintenant que le Seigneur a réellement envoyé son ange, et m'a délivré de la main d'Hérode et de tout ce qu'attendait le peuple juif; »
And Peter, being come to himself, said, Now I know certainly that [the] Lord has sent forth his angel and has taken me out of the hand of Herod and all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12 puis, après un moment de réflexion, il se rendit à la maison de Marie, mère de Jean surnommé Marc, où un assez grand nombre de personnes s'étaient réunies et priaient.
And having become clearly conscious [in himself], he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was surnamed Mark, where were many gathered together and praying.
13 Il heurta à la porte d'entrée; une servante nommée Rhode, vint répondre,
And when he had knocked at the door of the entry, a maid came to listen, by name Rhoda;
14 et, ayant reconnu la voix de Pierre, dans sa joie, elle ne lui ouvrit point, mais courut annoncer que Pierre était à la porte.
and having recognised the voice of Peter, through joy did not open the entry, but running in, reported that Peter was standing before the entry.
15 Ils lui dirent: «Tu es folle.» Mais elle soutenait que c'était vrai; et eux disaient: «C'est son ange.»
And they said to her, Thou art mad. But she maintained that it was so. And they said, It is his angel.
16 Cependant Pierre continuait à heurter. Ils ouvrirent, et, en le voyant, ils furent tout surpris.
But Peter continued knocking: and having opened, they saw him and were astonished.
17 Alors, ayant fait signe de la main de faire silence, il leur raconta comment le Seigneur l'avait tiré de la prison, et ajouta: «Faites-le savoir à Jacques et aux frères; » puis il sortit, et s'en alla dans un autre lieu.
And having made a sign to them with his hand to be silent, he related [to them] how the Lord had brought him out of prison; and he said, Report these things to James and to the brethren. And he went out and went to another place.
18 Quand il fit jour, les soldats furent dans une grande agitation, pour savoir ce que Pierre était devenu.
And when it was day there was no small disturbance among the soldiers, what then was become of Peter.
19 Hérode, ayant fait des perquisitions, et n'ayant pu le trouver, procéda à l'interrogatoire des gardes, et les fit conduire au supplice. Puis il descendit de Judée à Césarée, où il s'arrêta.
And Herod having sought him and not found him, having examined the guards, commanded [them] to be executed. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea and stayed [there].
20 Il était en hostilité avec les Tyriens et les Sidoniens. Ceux-ci se rendirent ensemble auprès de lui, et, ayant gagné Blaste, chambellan du roi, ils lui demandèrent la paix, parce que leur pays tirait sa subsistance de celui du roi.
And he was in bitter hostility with [the] Tyrians and Sidonians; but they came to him with one accord, and, having gained Blastus the king's chamberlain, sought peace, because their country was nourished by the king's.
21 Le jour même de l’audience, Hérode, revêtu de ses habits royaux et assis dans sa tribune, les haranguait,
And on a set day, clothed in royal apparel and sitting on the elevated seat [of honour], Herod made a public oration to them.
22 et le peuple s'écria: «Voix d'un dieu, et non d'un homme!»
And the people cried out, A god's voice and not a man's.
23 Soudain, un ange du Seigneur le frappa, parce qu'il n'avait pas donné gloire à Dieu; et il expira rongé des vers.
And immediately an angel of [the] Lord smote him, because he did not give the glory to God, and he expired, eaten of worms.
24 Cependant la parole de Dieu faisait des progrès, et le nombre des croyants se multipliait.
But the word of God grew and spread itself.
25 Après avoir rempli leur mission, Barnabas et Saul quittèrent Jérusalem et s'en retournèrent, emmenant avec eux Jean surnommé Marc.
And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having fulfilled the service [entrusted to them], taking also with them John, surnamed Mark.
