Actes 10
1 Il y avait à Césarée un homme du nom de Corneille, centurion de la cohorte appelée cohorte italienne:
And there was a certain man in Caesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a cohort that is called Italian,
2 c'était un homme pieux et craignant Dieu, lui et toute sa maison. Il faisait beaucoup d'aumônes au peuple, et priait Dieu sans cesse.
pious, and fearing God with all his house, also doing many kind acts to the people, and always imploring God;
3 Un jour, vers la neuvième heure, il vit clairement dans une vision, un ange de Dieu, qui entra vers lui, et lui dit: «Corneille!»
he saw in a vision openly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius”;
4 Il le regarda fixement, et, plein d'effroi, répondit: «Qu'est-ce, Seigneur?» Et l'ange lui dit: «Tes aumônes et tes prières sont montées devant Dieu; et il s'en est souvenu.
and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your kind acts came up for a memorial before God,
5 Et maintenant envoie chercher à Joppé un certain Simon, surnommé Pierre;
and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter;
6 il loge chez un corroyeur nommé Simon, qui a sa maison près de la mer.»
this one lodges with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one will speak to you what you must do.”
7 Dis que l'ange qui lui parlait fut parti, Corneille appela deux de ses domestiques et un soldat pieux, d'entre ceux qui étaient attachés à sa personne,
And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his servants, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,
8 et, après leur avoir tout raconté, il les envoya à Joppé.
and having expounded all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 Le lendemain, comme les messagers étaient en route, et qu'ils approchaient de la ville, Pierre monta sur le toit, vers la sixième heure du jour, pour prier.
And on the next day, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour,
10 Il avait faim, et il désirait manger; et, pendant qu'on préparait son repas, il tomba en extase:
and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell on him a trance,
11 il vit le ciel ouvert, et un objet semblable à une grande nappe, lequel descendait, attaché par les quatre coins, et s'abaissait sur la terre.
and he beholds Heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down on the earth,
12 Là, se trouvaient tous les quadrupèdes et les reptiles de la terre, et les oiseaux du ciel.
in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the sky,
13 En même temps une voix lui dit: «Lève-toi, Pierre, tue, et mange.»
and there came a voice to him: “Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.”
14 Mais Pierre dit: «Je n'ai garde, Seigneur, car je n'ai jamais rien mangé de souillé ni d'impur.»
And Peter said, “Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean”;
15 Et une voix lui parla pour la seconde fois: «Ce que Dieu a déclaré pur, toi, ne le tiens pas pour souillé.»
and [there is] a voice again a second time to him: “What God cleansed, you do not declare common”;
16 Cela arriva par trois fois, et aussitôt l'objet fut retiré dans le ciel.
and this was done three times, and again was the vessel received up to Heaven.
17 Pierre hésitait en lui-même sur le sens de la vision qu'il avait eue, quand les hommes envoyés par Corneille, s'étant informés de la maison de Simon, se présentèrent à la porte;
And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, behold, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,
18 et, après avoir appelé, ils demandèrent si c'était là que logeait Simon surnommé Pierre.
and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, lodges here.
19 Comme Pierre était plongé dans ses réflexions sur la vision, l'Esprit lui dit: «Voici des gens qui te demandent;
And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you;
20 lève-toi donc, descends et va avec eux, sans hésiter, car c'est moi qui te les ai envoyés.»
but having risen, go down and go on with them, doubting nothing, because I have sent them”;
21 Il descendit, et dit à ces hommes: «Voici, je suis celui que vous demandez: quel motif vous amène?»
and Peter having come down to the men who have been sent from Cornelius to him, said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek, what [is] the cause for which you are present?”
22 Ils lui dirent: «Le centurion Corneille, homme juste et craignant Dieu, à qui toute la nation des Juifs rend un bon témoignage été averti par un saint ange de te faire venir chez lui et d'entendre tes instructions.»
And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for you, to his house, and to hear sayings from you.”
23 Pierre les pria donc d'entrer, et les logea. Le lendemain, s'étant levé, il partit avec eux, accompagné de quelques frères de Joppé,
Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the next day Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brothers from Joppa went with him,
24 et le jour suivant ils entrèrent à Césarée. Corneille les attendait; il avait convoqué ses parents et ses amis intimes.
and on the next day they entered into Caesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and near friends,
25 Quand Pierre entra, Corneille alla au-devant de loi, et se jeta à ses pieds pour l'adorer»
and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at [his] feet, worshiped [him];
26 Mais Pierre le releva en disant: «Lève-toi, je ne suis moi-même qu'un homme; »
and Peter raised him, saying, “Stand up; I am also a man myself”;
27 et tout en causant avec lui, il entra, et trouva une nombreuse réunion.
and talking with him he went in, and finds many having come together.
28 Il leur dit: «Vous savez à quel point il est interdit à un Juif de se lier avec un étranger, ou de lui rendre visite; eh bien! Dieu m'a appris, à moi, à ne traiter aucun homme de souillé ni d'impur.
And he said to them, “You know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come to, one of another race, but God showed to me to call no man common or unclean;
29 Aussi n'ai-je fait aucune difficulté de venir, dès que vous m'avez envoyé chercher; je vous prie donc de me dire pour quelle raison vous m'avez fait venir.»
therefore also without contradicting I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter you sent for me?”
30 Et Corneille dit: «Il y a, à cette heure même, quatre jours que je jeûnais, et, à la neuvième heure, au moment où je priais dans ma maison, un homme vêtu d'une robe éclatante m’apparut,
And Cornelius said, “Four days ago until this hour, I was fasting, and [at] the ninth hour praying in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in radiant clothing,
31 et me dit: «Corneille, ta prière a été exaucée, et Dieu s'est souvenu de tes aumônes.
and he said, Cornelius, your prayer was heard, and your kind acts were remembered before God;
32 Envoie donc à Joppé, et fais appeler Simon surnommé Pierre; il loge dans la maison du corroyeur Simon, près de la mer, il viendra te parler.»
send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, will speak to you;
33 J'ai donc envoyé immédiatement vers toi, et tu as bien fait de venir. Maintenant nous voici tous en présence de Dieu, pour entendre tout ce que le Seigneur t'a commandé de nous dire.»
at once, therefore, I sent to you; you also did well, having come; now, therefore, we are all present before God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
34 Pierre ouvrit la bouche, et dit: «En vérité, je comprends que Dieu ne fait pas acception de personnes,
And Peter having opened his mouth, said, “Of a truth, I perceive that God is not favoring by appearance,
35 mais qu'en toute nation celui qui le craint et pratique la justice lui est agréable.
but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;
36 Telle est la parole qu'il a adressée aux fils d'Israël, en annonçant la bonne nouvelle de la paix par Jésus-Christ. Il est le Seigneur de tous.
the word that He sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news—peace through Jesus Christ (this One is Lord of all),
37 «Vous savez ce qui s'est passé dans toute la Judée, et qui a commencé par la Galilée, après le baptême que Jean a prêché:
you have known the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the immersion that John preached;
38 comment Dieu a oint d'esprit saint et de force Jésus de Nazareth, qui allait de lieu en lieu faisant du bien et guérissant tous ceux qui étaient tyrannisés par le diable, parce que Dieu était avec lui.
Jesus who [is] from Nazareth—how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the Devil, because God was with Him;
39 Pour nous, nous sommes témoins de tout ce qu'il fait dans les campagnes de la Judée et à Jérusalem, lui, à qui les Juifs ont même ôté la vie en le pendant au bois.
and we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem—whom they slew, having hanged [Him] on a tree.
40 Mais Dieu l’a ressuscité le troisième jour, et lui a donné de se faire voir,
This One God raised up [on] the third day, and gave Him to become visible,
41 non à tout le peuple, mais à des témoins, à ceux que Dieu avait précédemment choisis, à nous, qui avons mangé et bu avec lui, après qu'il a été ressuscité des morts.
not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God—to us who ate with [Him], and drank with Him, after His rising out of the dead;
42 Et Jésus nous a commandé de prêcher au peuple, et d'attester que c'est lui que Dieu a désigné pour juge des vivants et des morts.
and He commanded us to preach to the people, and to fully testify that it is He who has been ordained judge of living and dead by God—
43 C'est de lui que tous les prophètes rendent le témoignage, que quiconque croit en lui, reçoit par son nom le pardon de ses péchés...»
to this One do all the Prophets testify, that through His Name everyone that is believing in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”
44 Pierre parlait encore, lorsque le Saint-Esprit descendit sur tous ceux qui écoutaient sa parole.
While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy Spirit fell on all those hearing the word,
45 Tous les fidèles de la circoncision qui avaient accompagné Pierre, furent surpris de ce que le don du Saint-Esprit était aussi répandu sur les Gentils,
and those of circumcision [who were] believing were astonished—as many as came with Peter—because the gift of the Holy Spirit has also been poured out on the nations,
46 car ils les entendaient parler des langues et glorifier Dieu.
for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.
47 Alors Pierre dit: «Peut-on refuser l'eau du baptême à ces hommes qui ont reçu le Saint-Esprit aussi bien que nous?»
Then Peter answered, “Is anyone able to forbid the water, that these may not be immersed, who received the Holy Spirit—even as us also?”
48 Et il ordonna de les baptiser au nom du Seigneur. Après cela, on le pria de rester quelques jours.
He commanded them to also be immersed in the Name of the LORD; then they implored him to remain certain days.
