Sophonie 2
1 Examinez-vous, examinez-vous avec soin ô nation qui n'êtes pas aimable!
Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation without desire [for repentance];
2 Avant que le décret enfante, et que le jour passe comme de la balle; avant que l'ardeur de la colère de l'Eternel vienne sur vous, avant que le jour de la colère de l'Eternel vienne sur vous.
Before the decree is brought forth—like the chaff the day passeth away—before yet there be come over you the fierce anger of the Lord, before yet there be come over you the day of the anger of the Lord.
3 Vous, tous les débonnaires du pays, qui faites ce qu'il ordonne, cherchez l'Eternel, cherchez la justice, cherchez la débonnaireté; peut-être serez-vous mis en sûreté au jour de la colère de l'Eternel.
Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, who have fulfilled his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: perhaps ye will be protected on the day of the Lord's anger.
4 Mais Gaza sera abandonnée, et Askélon sera en désolation; on chassera [les habitants] d'Asdod en plein Midi, et Hékron sera arrachée.
For Gazzah shall become forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolate place: Ashdod shall they drive out at the noon of day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
5 Malheur aux habitants de la contrée maritime, à la nation des Kéréthiens, la parole de l'Eternel est contre vous; Canaan, [qui es] le pays des Philistins, je te détruirai, tellement que personne n'y habitera.
Woe unto the inhabitants of the district by the sea, the nation of the Kerethites! the word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that no inhabitant shall remain.
6 Et la contrée maritime ne sera que cabanes, que loges de bergers, et parcs de brebis.
And the district by the sea shall become places for pens of shepherds, and folds for flocks.
7 Et cette contrée sera pour le reste de la maison de Juda; ils paîtront dans ces lieux-là, et le soir ils feront leur gîte dans les maisons d'Askélon; car l'Eternel leur Dieu les visitera, et il ramènera leurs captifs.
And this district shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; thereupon shall they feed their flocks: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for the Lord their God will think of them, and bring back their captivity.
8 J'ai ouï les insultes de Moab, et les invectives des enfants de Hammon, dont ils ont diffamé mon peuple, et l'ont bravé sur leur frontière.
I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of 'Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and made themselves great against their border.
9 C'est pourquoi, je suis vivant, dit l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, que Moab sera comme Sodome, et les enfants de Mammon comme Gomorrhe, un lieu couvert d'orties, et une carrière de sel et de désolation à jamais; les restes de mon peuple les pilleront, et les restes de [ma] nation les posséderont.
Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall become like Sodom, and the children of 'Ammon like Gomorrah, overgrown with nettles, and [filled with] salt-pits, and a desolation to eternity; the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my nation shall possess them.
10 Ceci leur arrivera en échange de leur orgueil, parce qu'ils ont usé d'insultes et de vanteries, contre le peuple de l'Eternel des armées.
This shall they have in recompense for their pride; because they have reproached and made themselves great against the people of the Lord of hosts.
11 L'Eternel sera terrible contre eux; car il amaigrira tous les dieux du pays; et on se prosternera devant lui, chacun de son lieu, même toutes les Iles des nations.
Terrible will the Lord [appear] over them; for he will cause to vanish all the gods of the earth; and then shall prostrate themselves before him, every one from its place, all the isles of the nations.
12 Vous aussi [habitants] de Cus, vous serez blessés à mort par mon épée.
Also ye Ethiopians shall be those slain by my sword.
13 Il étendra aussi sa main sur l'Aquilon, et il détruira l'Assyrie, et mettra Ninive en désolation, en un lieu aride comme un désert.
And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and he will make Nineveh a desolate place, dry, like the wilderness.
14 Et les troupeaux feront leur gîte au milieu d'elle, et toutes les bêtes des nations, même le cormoran, et le butor logeront dans ses porteaux, la voix des oiseaux retentira à la fenêtre, la désolation sera au seuil, parce qu'il en aura abbatu des cèdres.
And there shall lie down in the midst of her flocks, all the beasts of the nations; both the pelican and the hedgehog shall lodge in the capitals of her columns; singing-birds shall sing in the windows; ruin shall be on the thresholds; for the cedar wainscoting shall be torn away.
15 C'est là cette ville remplie de joie, qui se tenait assurée, et qui disait en son cœur; c'est moi, et il n'y en a point d'autre que moi. Comment a-t-elle été réduite en désert, pour être le gîte des bêtes? Quiconque passera près d elle se moquera, et branlera sa main.
This is the joyful city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none else beside me: how is she become desolate, a resting-place for beasts! every one that passeth by her will hiss, and shake his hand.
