Romains 7
1 Ne savez-vous pas, mes frères (car je parle à ceux qui entendent ce que c'est que la Loi) que la Loi exerce son pouvoir sur l'homme durant tout le temps qu'il est en vie?
Remember ye not brethren (I speake to them yt know the lawe) how that the lawe hath power over a man as longe as it endureth?
2 Car la femme qui est sous la puissance d'un mari, est liée à son mari par la Loi, tandis qu'il est en vie; mais si son mari meurt, elle est délivrée de la loi du mari.
For the woman which is in subieccion to a man is bounde by the lawe to the man as longe as he liveth. Yf the man be deed she is lowsed from the lawe of the man.
3 Le mari donc étant vivant, si elle épouse un autre mari elle sera appelée adultère; mais son mari étant mort, elle est délivrée de la Loi; tellement qu'elle ne sera point adultère si elle épouse un autre mari.
So then yf whill the man liveth she couple her selfe with another man she shalbe counted a wedlocke breaker. But yf the man be deed she is fre fro the lawe: so that she is no wedlocke breaker though she couple her selfe with another man.
4 Ainsi mes frères, vous êtes aussi morts à la Loi par le corps de Christ, pour être à un autre, [savoir] à celui qui est ressuscité des morts, afin que nous fructifions à Dieu.
Even so ye my brethren are deed concerninge the lawe by the body of Christ yt ye shuld be coupled to another (I meane to him that is rysen agayne fro deeth) that we shuld bringe forth frute vnto God.
5 Car quand nous étions en la chair, les affections des péchés [étant excitées] par la Loi, avaient vigueur en nos membres, pour fructifier à la mort.
For when we were in the flesshe the lustes of synne which were stered vppe by ye lawe raygned in oure membres to bringe forth frute vnto deeth.
6 Mais maintenant nous sommes délivrés de la Loi, [la Loi] par laquelle nous étions retenus étant morte; afin que nous servions [Dieu] en nouveauté d'esprit, et non point en vieillesse de Lettre.
But now are we delivered fro the lawe and deed fro that whervnto we werein bondage that we shuld serve in a newe conversacion of ye sprete and not in ye olde conversacion of the letter.
7 Que dirons-nous donc? La Loi est-elle péché? à Dieu ne plaise! au contraire je n'ai point connu le péché, sinon par la Loi: car je n'eusse pas connu la convoitise, si la Loi n'eût dit: tu ne convoiteras point.
What shall we saye then? is ye lawe synne? God forbid: but I knewe not what synne meant but by the lawe. For I had not knowne what lust had meant excepte the lawe had sayde thou shalt not lust.
8 Mais le péché ayant pris occasion par le commandement, a produit en moi toute sorte de convoitise; parce que sans la Loi le péché est mort.
But synne toke an occasion by the meanes of the commaundement and wrought in me all manner of concupiscece. For with out the lawe synne was deed.
9 Car autrefois que j'étais sans la Loi, je vivais; mais quand le commandement est venu, le péché a commencé à revivre.
I once lived with out lawe. But when the commaundement came synne revyved and I was deed.
10 Et moi je suis mort; et le commandement qui [m'était ordonné] pour [être ma] vie, a été trouvé [me tourner] à mort.
And the very same comaundement which was ordeyned vnto lyfe was founde to be vnto me an occasion of deeth.
11 Car le péché prenant occasion du commandement, m'a séduit, et par lui m'a mis à mort.
For synne toke occasion by the meanes of the comaundement and so disceaved me and by the selfe commaundement slewe we.
12 La Loi donc est sainte, et le commandement est saint, juste, et bon.
Wherfore the lawe is holy and the commaundement holy iust and good.
13 Ce qui est bon, m'est-il devenu mortel? nullement! mais le péché, afin qu'il parût péché, m'a causé la mort par le bien; afin que le péché fût rendu par le commandement excessivement péchant.
Was that then which is good made deeth vnto me? God forbyd. Naye synne was deeth vnto me that it myght appere how that synne by the meanes of that which is good had wrought deeth in me: that synne which is vnder the commandemet myght be out of measure synfull.
14 Car nous savons que la Loi est spirituelle; mais je suis charnel, vendu au péché.
For we knowe that the lawe is spirituall: but I am carnall solde vnder synne
15 Car je n'approuve point ce que je fais, puisque je ne fais point ce que je veux, mais je fais ce que je hais.
because I wote not what I doo. For what I wold that do I not: but what I hate that do I.
16 Or si ce que je fais je ne le veux point, je reconnais [par cela même] que la Loi est bonne.
Yf I do now that which I wolde not I graute to the lawe that it is good.
17 Maintenant donc ce n'est plus moi qui fais cela; mais c'est le péché qui habite en moi.
So then nowe it is not I that do it but synne that dwelleth in me.
18 Car je sais qu'en moi, c'est-à-dire, en ma chair, il n'habite point de bien; vu que le vouloir est bien attaché à moi, mais je ne trouve pas le moyen d'accomplir le bien.
For I knowe that in me (that is to saye in my flesshe) dwelleth no good thinge. To will is present with me: but I fynde no meanes to performe that which is good.
19 Car je ne fais pas le bien que je veux, mais je fais le mal que je ne veux point.
For I doo not yt good thinge which I wold: but that evill do I which I wolde not.
20 Or si je fais ce que je ne veux point, ce n'est plus moi qui le fais, mais [c'est] le péché qui habite en moi.
Finally yf I do that I wolde not then is it not I that doo it but synne that dwelleth in me doeth it.
21 Je trouve donc cette Loi au-dedans de moi, que quand je veux faire le bien, le mal est attaché à moi.
I fynde then by the lawe that when I wolde do good evyll is present with me.
22 Car je prends bien plaisir à la loi de Dieu quant à l'homme intérieur;
I delite in the lawe of God concerninge the inner man.
23 Mais je vois dans mes membres une autre loi, qui combat contre la loi de mon entendement, et qui me rend prisonnier à la loi du péché, qui est dans mes membres.
But I se another lawe in my membres rebellinge agaynst the lawe of my mynde and subduynge me vnto the lawe of synne which is in my membres.
24 [Ha!] misérable que je suis! qui me délivrera du corps de cette mort?
O wretched man yt I am: who shall delyver me fro this body of deeth?
25 Je rends grâces à Dieu par Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur. Je sers donc moi-même de l'entendement à la Loi de Dieu, mais de la chair, à la loi du péché.
I thanke God thorow Iesus Christ oure Lorde. So then I my silfe in my mynde serve the lawe of God and in my flesshe the lawe of synne.
