Psaumes 8

1 Psaume de David, [donné] au maître chantre, [pour le chanter] sur Guittith. Eternel notre Seigneur! que ton Nom est magnifique par toute la terre, vu que tu as mis ta Majesté au-dessus des cieux.

O Jehovah, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who has set thy glory upon the heavens!

2 De la bouche des petits enfants, et de ceux qui tètent, tu as fondé [ta] force, [à cause] de tes adversaires; afin de faire cesser l'ennemi et le vindicatif.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou have perfected praise, because of thine adversaries, that thou might still the enemy and the avenger.

3 Quand je regarde tes cieux, l'ouvrage de tes doigts, la lune et les étoiles que tu as arrangées,

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou have ordained,

4 [Je dis]: qu'est-ce que de l'homme, que tu te souviennes de lui; et du fils de l'homme, que tu le visites?

what is man that thou remember him? And the son of man that thou succor him?

5 Car tu l'as fait un peu moindre que les Anges, et tu l'as couronné de gloire et d'honneur.

For thou have made him but little lower than agents, and crowned him with glory and honor.

6 Tu l'as fait Seigneur des œuvres de tes mains; tu as mis toutes choses sous ses pieds,

Thou make him to have dominion over the works of thy hands. Thou have put all things under his feet.

7 Les brebis et les bœufs sans réserve, même les bêtes des champs,

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field,

8 Les oiseaux des cieux, et les poissons de la mer, ce qui traverse par les sentiers de la mer.

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

9 Eternel notre Seigneur! que ton Nom est magnifique par toute la terre!

O Jehovah, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
