Psaumes 44
1 Maskil des enfants de Coré, [donné] au maître chantre. Ô Dieu nous avons ouï de nos oreilles, [et] nos pères nous ont raconté les exploits que tu as faits en leurs jours, aux jours d'autrefois.
To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil. We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, [what] work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
2 Tu as de ta main chassé les nations, et tu as affermi nos [pères]; tu as affligé les peuples, et tu as fait prospérer nos pères.
[How] thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; [how] thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
3 Car ce n'est point par leur épée qu'ils ont conquis le pays, et ce n'a point été leur bras, qui les a délivrés; mais ta droite, et ton bras, et la lumière de ta face; parce que tu les affectionnais.
For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
4 Ô Dieu! c'est toi qui es mon Roi, ordonne les délivrances de Jacob.
Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.
5 Avec toi nous battrons nos adversaires, par ton Nom nous foulerons ceux qui s'élèvent contre nous.
Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
6 Car je ne me confie point en mon arc, et ce ne sera pas mon épée qui me délivrera;
For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
7 Mais tu nous délivreras de nos adversaires, et tu rendras confus ceux qui nous haïssent.
But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
8 Nous nous glorifierons en Dieu tout le jour, et nous célébrerons à toujours ton Nom. (Sélah)
In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. (Selah)
9 Mais tu nous as rejetés, et rendus confus, et tu ne sors plus avec nos armées.
But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
10 Tu nous as fait retourner en arrière de devant l'adversaire, et nos ennemis se sont enrichis de ce qu'ils ont pillé sur nous.
Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
11 Tu nous as livrés comme des brebis destinées à être mangées, et tu nous as dispersés entre les nations.
Thou hast given us like sheep [appointed] for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
12 Tu as vendu ton peuple pour rien, et tu n'as point fait hausser leur prix.
Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase [thy wealth] by their price.
13 Tu nous as mis en opprobre chez nos voisins, en dérision, et en raillerie auprès de ceux qui habitent autour de nous.
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
14 Tu nous as mis en dicton parmi les nations, [et] en hochement de tête parmi les peuples.
Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
15 Ma confusion est tout le jour devant moi, et la honte de ma face m'a tout couvert.
My confusion [is] continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
16 A cause des discours de celui qui [nous] fait des reproches, et qui nous injurie, [et] à cause de l'ennemi et du vindicatif.
For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
17 Tout cela nous est arrivé, et cependant nous ne t'avons point oublié, et nous n'avons point faussé ton alliance.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
18 Notre cœur n'a point reculé en arrière, ni nos pas ne se sont point détournés de tes sentiers;
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
19 Quoique tu nous aies froissés parmi des dragons, et couverts de l'ombre de la mort.
Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 Si nous eussions oublié le Nom de notre Dieu, et que nous eussions étendu nos mains vers un dieu étranger,
If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
21 Dieu ne s'en enquerrait-il point? vu que c'est lui qui connaît les secrets du cœur.
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22 Mais nous sommes tous les jours mis à mort pour l'amour de toi, [et] nous sommes regardés comme des brebis de la boucherie.
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Lève-toi, pourquoi dors-tu, Seigneur? Réveille-toi, ne nous rejette point à jamais.
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast [us] not off for ever.
24 Pourquoi caches-tu ta face, [et] pourquoi oublies-tu notre affliction et notre oppression?
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, [and] forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 Car notre âme est penchée jusques en la poudre, et notre ventre est attaché contre terre.
For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26 Lève-toi pour nous secourir, et nous délivre pour l'amour de ta gratuité.
Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies’ sake.
