Psaumes 31
1 Psaume de David, au maître chantre. Eternel, je me suis retiré vers toi, fais que je ne sois jamais confus, délivre-moi par ta justice.
For the end, a Psalm of David, [an utterance] of extreme fear. O Lord, I have hoped in thee; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness and rescue me.
2 Incline ton oreille vers moi, délivre-moi promptement; sois-moi pour une forte roche [et] pour une forteresse, afin que je m'y puisse sauver.
Incline thine ear to me; make haste to rescue me: be thou to me for a protecting God, and for a house of refuge to save me.
3 Car tu es mon rocher et ma forteresse; c'est pourquoi mène-moi et me conduis, pour l'amour de ton Nom.
For thou art my strength and my refuge; and thou shalt guide me for thy name's sake, and maintain me.
4 Tire-moi hors du filet qu'on m'a tendu en secret, car tu es ma force.
Thou shalt bring me out of the snare which they have hidden for me; for thou, O Lord, art my defender.
5 Je remets mon esprit en ta main; tu m'as racheté, ô Eternel! le Dieu de la vérité.
Into thine hands I will commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
6 J'ai haï ceux qui s'adonnent aux vanités trompeuses; mais moi, je me suis confié en l'Eternel.
Thou has hated them that idly persist in vanities: but I have hoped in the Lord.
7 Je m'égayerai et me réjouirai de ta gratuité, parce que tu as regardé mon affliction, [et] que tu as jeté les yeux sur mon âme en ses détresses;
I will exult and be glad in thy mercy: for thou hast looked upon mine affliction; thou hast saved my soul from distresses.
8 Et parce que tu ne m'as point livré entre les mains de l'ennemi, [mais] as fait tenir debout mes pieds au large.
And thou hast not shut me up into the hands of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a wide place.
9 Eternel, aie pitié de moi, car je suis en détresse; mon regard est tout défait de chagrin, mon âme [aussi] et mon ventre.
Pity me, O Lord, for I am afflicted: my eye is troubled with indignation, my soul and by belly.
10 Car ma vie est consumée d'ennui, et mes ans à force de soupirer; ma vertu est déchue, à cause de [la peine de] mon iniquité, et mes os sont consumés.
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with groanings: my strength has been weakened through poverty, and my bones are troubled.
11 J'ai été en opprobre à cause de tous mes adversaires, je l'ai même été extrêmement à mes voisins, et en frayeur à ceux de ma connaissance; ceux qui me voient dehors s'enfuient de moi.
I became a reproach among all mine enemies, but exceedingly so to my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that saw me without fled from me.
12 J'ai été mis en oubli dans le cœur [des hommes], comme un mort; j'ai été estimé comme un vaisseau de nul usage.
I have been forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am become as a broken vessel.
13 Car j'ai ouï les insultes de plusieurs; la frayeur m'a saisi de tous côtés, quand ils consultaient ensemble contre moi. Ils ont machiné de m'ôter la vie.
For I heard the slander of many that dwelt round about: when they were gathered together against me, they took counsel to take my life.
14 Toutefois, ô Eternel! je me suis confié en toi; j'ai dit: Tu es mon Dieu.
But I hoped in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God.
15 Mes temps sont en ta main, délivre-moi de la main de mes ennemis, et de ceux qui me poursuivent.
My lots are in thy hands: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies,
16 Fais luire ta face sur ton serviteur, délivre-moi par ta gratuité.
and from them that persecute me. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me in thy mercy.
17 Eternel! que je ne sois point confus, puisque je t'ai invoqué; que les méchants soient confus, qu'ils soient couchés dans le sépulcre! (Sheol h7585)
O Lord, let me not be ashamed, for I have called upon thee: let the ungodly be ashamed, and brought down to Hades. (Sheol h7585)
18 Que les lèvres menteuses soient muettes, lesquelles profèrent des paroles dures contre le juste, avec orgueil et avec mépris.
Let the deceitful lips become dumb, which speak iniquity against the righteous with pride and scorn.
19 Ô! que tes biens sont grands, lesquels tu as réservés pour ceux qui te craignent, [et] que tu as faits en la présence des fils des hommes, à ceux qui se retirent vers toi!
How abundant is the multitude of thy goodness, O Lord, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee! thou hast wrought [it] out for them that hope on thee, in the presence of the sons of men.
20 Tu les caches dans le lieu secret où tu habites loin de l'orgueil des hommes; tu les préserves en une loge à couvert des disputes des langues.
Thou wilt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the vexation of man: thou wilt screen them in a tabernacle from the contradiction of tongues.
21 Béni soit l'Eternel, de ce qu'il a rendu admirable sa gratuité envers moi, comme si j'eusse été en une place forte.
Blessed be the Lord: for he has magnified his mercy in a fortified city.
22 Je disais en ma précipitation: je suis retranché de devant tes yeux; et néanmoins tu as exaucé la voix de mes supplications, quand j'ai crié à toi.
But I said in my extreme fear, I am cast out from the sight of thine eyes: therefore thou didst hearken, O Lord, to the voice of my supplication when I cried to thee.
23 Aimez l'Eternel vous tous ses bien-aimés; l'Eternel garde les fidèles, et il punit [sévèrement] celui qui agit avec fierté.
Love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord seeks for truth, and renders [a reward] to them that deal very proudly.
24 Vous tous qui avez votre attente à l'Eternel, demeurez fermes, et il fortifiera votre cœur.
Be of good courage, and let your heart be strengthened, all ye that hope in the Lord.
