Psaumes 124

1 Cantique de Mahaloth, de David. N'eut été l'Eternel, qui a été pour nous, dise maintenant Israël.

A Song of the going up. Of David. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side (let Israel now say);

2 N'eût été l'Eternel, qui a été pour nous, quand les hommes se sont élevés contre nous.

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men came up against us;

3 Ils nous eussent dès lors engloutis tout vifs; pendant que leur colère était enflammée contre nous.

They would have made a meal of us while still living, in the heat of their wrath against us:

4 Dès-lors les eaux se fussent débordées sur nous, un torrent eût passé sur notre âme.

We would have been covered by the waters; the streams would have gone over our soul;

5 Dès-lors les eaux enflées fussent passées sur notre âme.

Yes, the waters of pride would have gone over our soul.

6 Béni soit l'Eternel; qui ne nous a point livrés en proie à leurs dents.

Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be wounded by their teeth.

7 Notre âme est échappée, comme l'oiseau du filet des oiseleurs; le filet a été rompu, et nous sommes échappés.

Our soul has gone free like a bird out of the net of those who would take her: the net is broken, and we are free.

8 Notre aide soit au nom de l'Eternel qui a fait les cieux et la terre.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
