Proverbes 2

1 Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, et que tu mettes en réserve par-devers toi mes commandements;

[My] son, if you will receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it with you;

2 Tellement que tu rendes ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, et que tu inclines ton cœur à l'intelligence;

your ear shall listen to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son.

3 Si tu appelles à toi la prudence, et que tu adresses ta voix à l'intelligence;

For it you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding;

4 Si tu la cherches comme de l'argent, et si tu la recherches soigneusement comme des trésors;

and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures;

5 Alors tu connaîtras la crainte de l'Eternel, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.

then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

6 Car l'Eternel donne la sagesse; et de sa bouche procède la connaissance et l'intelligence.

For the Lord gives wisdom; and from his presence [come] knowledge and understanding,

7 Il réserve pour ceux qui sont droits un état permanent, et il est le bouclier de ceux qui marchent dans l'intégrité;

and he treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: he will protect their way;

8 Pour garder les sentiers de jugement; [tellement qu'] il gardera la voie de ses bien-aimés.

that he may guard the righteous ways: and he will preserve the way of them that fear him.

9 Alors tu entendras la justice, et le jugement, et l'équité, et tout bon chemin.

Then shall you understand righteousness, and judgment; and shall direct all your course aright.

10 Si la sagesse vient en ton cœur, et si la connaissance est agréable à ton âme;

For if wisdom shall come into your understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to your soul,

11 La prudence te conservera, et l'intelligence te gardera;

good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you;

12 Pour te délivrer du mauvais chemin, et de l'homme prononçant de mauvais discours.

to deliver you from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully.

13 De ceux qui laissent les chemins de la droiture pour marcher par les voies de ténèbres;

Alas [for those] who forsake right paths, to walk in ways of darkness;

14 Qui se réjouissent à mal faire, et s'égayent dans les renversements que fait le méchant.

who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness;

15 Desquels les chemins sont tortus, et qui vont de travers en leur train.

whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding;

16 [Et] afin qu'il te délivre de la femme étrangère, et de la femme d'autrui, dont les paroles sont flatteuses;

to remove you far from the straight way, and to estrange you from a righteous purpose. [My] son, let not evil counsel overtake you,

17 Qui abandonne le conducteur de sa jeunesse, et qui a oublié l'alliance de son Dieu.

[of her] who has forsaken the instruction of her youth, and forgotten the covenant of God.

18 Car sa maison penche vers la mort, et son chemin mène vers les trépassés.

For she has fixed her house near death, and [guided] her wheels near Hades with the giants.

19 Pas un de ceux qui vont vers elle, n'en retourne, ni ne reprend les sentiers de la vie.

None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they are not apprehended of the years of life.

20 Afin aussi que tu marches dans la voie des gens de bien, et que tu gardes les sentiers des justes.

For had they gone in good paths, they would have found the paths of righteousness easy.

21 Car ceux qui sont justes habiteront en la terre, et les hommes intègres demeureront de reste en elle.

For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it.

22 Mais les méchants seront retranchés de la terre, et ceux qui agissent perfidement en seront arrachés.

The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it.
