< Proverbes 13 >

1 L'enfant sage écoute l'instruction de son père, mais le moqueur n'écoute point la répréhension.
A wise son is a lover of teaching, but the ears of the haters of authority are shut to sharp words.
2 L'homme mangera du bien par le fruit de sa bouche; mais l'âme de ceux qui agissent perfidement, mangera l'extorsion.
A man will get good from the fruit of his lips, but the desire of the false is for violent acts.
3 Celui qui garde sa bouche, garde son âme; mais celui qui ouvre à tout propos ses lèvres, tombera en ruine.
He who keeps a watch on his mouth keeps his life; but he whose lips are open wide will have destruction.
4 L'âme du paresseux ne fait que souhaiter, et il n'a rien; mais l'âme des diligents sera engraissée.
The hater of work does not get his desires, but the soul of the hard workers will be made fat.
5 Le juste hait la parole de mensonge, mais elle met le méchant en mauvaise odeur, et le fait tomber dans la confusion.
The upright man is a hater of false words: the evil-doer gets a bad name and is put to shame.
6 La justice garde celui qui est intègre dans sa voie, mais la méchanceté renversera celui qui s'égare.
Righteousness keeps safe him whose way is without error, but evil-doers are overturned by sin.
7 Tel fait du riche, qui n'a rien du tout; et tel fait du pauvre, qui a de grandes richesses.
A man may be acting as if he had wealth, but have nothing; another may seem poor, but have great wealth.
8 Les richesses font que l'homme est rançonné; mais le pauvre n'entend point de menaces.
A man will give his wealth in exchange for his life; but the poor will not give ear to sharp words.
9 La lumière des justes sera gaie; mais la lampe des méchants sera éteinte.
There is a glad dawn for the upright man, but the light of the sinner will be put out.
10 L'orgueil ne produit que querelle; mais la sagesse est avec ceux qui prennent conseil.
The only effect of pride is fighting; but wisdom is with the quiet in spirit.
11 Les richesses provenues de vanité seront diminuées; mais celui qui amasse avec la main, les multipliera.
Wealth quickly got will become less; but he who gets a store by the work of his hands will have it increased.
12 L'espoir différé fait languir le cœur; mais le souhait qui arrive, est [comme] l'arbre de vie.
Hope put off is a weariness to the heart; but when what is desired comes, it is a tree of life.
13 Celui qui méprise la parole, périra à cause d'elle; mais celui qui craint le commandement, en aura la récompense.
He who makes sport of the word will come to destruction, but the respecter of the law will be rewarded.
14 L'enseignement du sage est une source de vie pour se détourner des filets de la mort.
The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning men away from the nets of death.
15 Le bon entendement donne de la grâce; mais la voie de ceux qui agissent perfidement, est raboteuse.
Wise behaviour gets approval, but the way of the false is their destruction.
16 Tout homme bien avisé agira avec connaissance; mais le fou répandra sa folie.
A sharp man does everything with knowledge, but a foolish man makes clear his foolish thoughts.
17 Le méchant messager tombe dans le mal; mais l'ambassadeur fidèle est santé.
A man taking false news is a cause of trouble, but he who gives news rightly makes things well.
18 La pauvreté et l'ignominie arriveront à celui qui rejette l'instruction; mais celui qui garde la répréhension, sera honoré.
Need and shame will be the fate of him who is uncontrolled by training; but he who takes note of teaching will be honoured.
19 Le souhait accompli est une chose douce à l'âme; mais se détourner du mal, est une abomination aux fous.
To get one's desire is sweet to the soul, but to give up evil is disgusting to the foolish.
20 Celui qui converse avec les sages, deviendra sage; mais le compagnon des fous sera accablé.
Go with wise men and be wise: but he who keeps company with the foolish will be broken.
21 Le mal poursuit les pécheurs; mais le bien sera rendu aux justes.
Evil will overtake sinners, but the upright will be rewarded with good.
22 L'homme de bien laissera de quoi hériter aux enfants de ses enfants; mais les richesses du pécheur sont réservées aux justes.
The heritage of the good man is handed down to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the upright man.
23 Il y a beaucoup à manger dans les terres défrichées des pauvres; mais il y a tel qui est consumé par faute de règle.
There is much food in the ploughed land of the poor; but it is taken away by wrongdoing.
24 Celui qui épargne sa verge, hait son fils; mais celui qui l'aime, se hâte de le châtier.
He who keeps back his rod is unkind to his son: the loving father gives punishment with care.
25 Le juste mangera jusqu'à être rassasié à son souhait; mais le ventre des méchants aura disette.
The upright man has food to the full measure of his desire, but there will be no food for the stomach of evil-doers.
