Néhémie 8
1 Or tout le peuple s'assembla, comme si ce n'eût été qu'un seul homme, en la place qui était devant la porte des eaux; et ils dirent à Esdras le Scribe qu'il apportât le Livre de la Loi de Moïse, laquelle l'Eternel avait ordonnée à Israël.
And all the people are gathered as one man unto the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, that Jehovah commanded Israel.
2 Et ainsi le premier jour du septième mois Esdras le Sacrificateur apporta la Loi devant l'assemblée, composée d'hommes, et de femmes, et de tous ceux qui étaient capables d'entendre, afin qu'on l'écoutât.
And Ezra the priest bringeth the law before the assembly, both of men and women, and every one intelligent to hear, on the first day of the seventh month,
3 Et il lut au Livre, dans la place qui [était] devant la porte des eaux, depuis l'aube du jour jusqu'à midi, en la présence des hommes, et des femmes, et de ceux qui étaient capables d'entendre; et les oreilles de tout le peuple étaient attentives à la lecture du Livre de la Loi.
and he readeth in it before the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, from the light till the middle of the day, over-against the men, and the women, and those intelligent, and the ears of all the people [are] unto the book of the law.
4 Ainsi Esdras le Scribe se tint debout sur un lieu éminent bâti de bois, qu'on avait dressé pour cela; et il avait auprès de lui Mattitia, Sémah, Hanaja, Urija, Hilkija et Mahaséja, à sa main droite; et à sa gauche étaient Pédaja, Misaël, Malkija, Hasum, Hasbadduna, Zacharie, et Mésullam.
And Ezra the scribe standeth on a tower of wood that they made for the purpose, and Mattithiah standeth near him, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right; and on his left Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.
5 Et Esdras ouvrit le Livre devant tout le peuple; car il était au-dessus de tout le peuple; et sitôt qu'il l'eut ouvert, tout le peuple se tint debout.
And Ezra openeth the book before the eyes of all the people — for above all the people he hath been — and at his opening [it] all the people have stood up,
6 Puis Esdras bénit l'Eternel, le grand Dieu; et tout le peuple répondit: Amen! Amen! En élevant leurs mains. Puis ils s'inclinèrent et se prosternèrent devant l'Eternel, le visage contre terre.
and Ezra blesseth Jehovah, the great God, and all the people answer, 'Amen, Amen,' with lifting up of their hands, and they bow and do obeisance to Jehovah — faces to the earth.
7 Aussi Jésuah, Bani, Sérebja, Jamin, Hakkub, Sabéthaï, Hodija, Mahaséja, Kélita, Hazaria, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaja, et les [autres] Lévites, faisaient comprendre la Loi au peuple, le peuple se tenant en sa place.
And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, giving the people understanding in the law, and the people, [are] on their station,
8 Et ils lisaient au Livre de la Loi de Dieu, ils l'expliquaient, et en donnaient l'intelligence, la faisant comprendre par l'Ecriture [même.]
and they read in the book, in the law of God, explaining — so as to give the meaning, and they give understanding to the convocation.
9 Or Néhémie, qui est Attirsatha, et Esdras Sacrificateur et Scribe, et les Lévites qui instruisaient le peuple dirent à tout le peuple; ce jour est saint à l'Eternel notre Dieu, ne menez point de deuil, et ne pleurez point; car tout le peuple pleura dès qu'il eut entendu les paroles de la Loi.
And Nehemiah — he [is] the Tirshatha — saith (and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who are instructing the people) to all the people, 'To-day is holy to Jehovah your God, do not mourn, nor weep:' for all the people are weeping at their hearing the words of the law.
10 Puis on leur dit: Allez, mangez du plus gras, et buvez du plus doux; et envoyez-en des portions à ceux qui n'ont rien de prêt; car ce jour est saint à notre Seigneur: ne soyez donc point tristes, puisque la joie de l'Eternel est votre force.
And he saith to them, 'Go, eat fat things, and drink sweet things, and sent portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for to-day [is] holy to our Lord, and be not grieved, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.'
11 Et les Lévites faisaient faire silence parmi tout le peuple, en disant: Faites silence, car ce jour est saint, et ne vous attristez point.
And the Levites are keeping all the people silent, saying, 'Be silent, for to-day [is] holy, and be not grieved.'
12 Ainsi tout le peuple s'en alla pour manger et pour boire, et pour envoyer des présents, et pour faire une grande réjouissance, parce qu'ils avaient bien compris les paroles qu'on leur avait enseignées.
And all the people go to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great joy, because they have understood concerning the words that they made known to them.
13 Et le second jour [du mois], les Chefs des pères de tout le peuple, les Sacrificateurs, et les Lévites, s'assemblèrent vers Esdras le Scribe, pour avoir l'intelligence des paroles de la Loi.
And on the second day have been gathered heads of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to act wisely concerning the words of the law.
14 Ils trouvèrent donc écrit en la Loi que l'Eternel avait ordonnée par le moyen de Moïse, que les enfants d'Israël demeurassent dans des tabernacles pendant la fête solennelle au septième mois.
And they find written in the law that Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses, that the sons of Israel dwell in booths in the feast, in the seventh month,
15 Ce qu'ils firent savoir et qu'ils publièrent par toutes leurs villes, et à Jérusalem, en disant: Allez sur la montagne, et apportez des rameaux d'oliviers, et des rameaux d'autres arbres huileux, des rameaux de myrte, des rameaux de palmier, et des rameaux de bois branchus, afin de faire des tabernacles, selon ce qui est écrit.
and that they proclaim and cause to pass over all their cities, (and in Jerusalem, ) saying, 'Go ye out to the mount, and bring leaves of the olive, and leaves of the oil tree, and leaves of the myrtle, and leaves of the palms, and leaves of thick trees, to make booths as it is written.'
16 Le peuple donc alla [sur la montagne], et ils apportèrent [des rameaux], et se firent des tabernacles, chacun sur son toit, et dans les cours [de leurs maisons], et dans les parvis de la maison de Dieu, et à la place de la porte des eaux, et à la place de la porte d'Ephraïm.
And the people go out, and bring in, and make for themselves booths, each on his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the broad place of the water-gate, and in the broad place of the gate of Ephraim.
17 Et ainsi toute l'assemblée de ceux qui étaient retournés de la captivité fit des tabernacles, et ils se tinrent dans les tabernacles. Or les enfants d'Israël n'en avaient point fait de tels, depuis les jours de Josué fils de Nun, jusqu'à ce jour-là; et il y eut une fort grande joie.
And they make — all the assembly of the captives of the captivity — booths, and they sit in booths; for the sons of Israel had not done, from the days of Jeshua son of Nun, so unto that day, and there is very great joy.
18 Et on lut au Livre de la Loi de Dieu chaque jour, depuis le premier jour jusqu'au dernier. Ainsi on célébra la fête solennelle pendant sept jours, et il y eut une assemblée solennelle au huitième jour, comme il était ordonné.
And he readeth in the book of the law of God day by day, from the first day till the last day, and they make a feast seven days, and on the eighth day a restraint, according to the ordinance.
