Matthieu 14
1 En ce temps-là Hérode le Tétrarque ouït la renommée de Jésus;
At that season Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
2 Et il dit à ses serviteurs: c'est Jean Baptiste; il est ressuscité des morts, c'est pourquoi la vertu de faire des miracles agit puissamment en lui.
and said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore do these powers work in him.
3 Car Hérode avait fait prendre Jean, et l'avait fait lier et mettre en prison, à cause d'Hérodias, femme de Philippe son frère.
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
4 Parce que Jean lui disait: il ne t'est pas permis de l'avoir pour femme.
For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5 Et il eût bien voulu le faire mourir, mais il craignait le peuple, à cause qu'on tenait Jean pour Prophète.
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6 Or au jour du festin de la naissance d'Hérode, la fille d'Hérodias dansa en pleine salle, et plut à Hérode.
But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
7 C'est pourquoi il lui promit avec serment de lui donner tout ce qu'elle demanderait.
Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she should ask.
8 Elle donc étant poussée auparavant par sa mère, lui dit: donne-moi ici dans un plat la tête de Jean Baptiste.
And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
9 Et le roi en fut marri; mais à cause des serments, et de ceux qui étaient à table avec lui, il commanda qu'on la lui donnât.
And the king was grieved; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them which sat at meat with him, he commanded it to be given;
10 Et il envoya décapiter Jean dans la prison.
and he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11 Et sa tête fut apportée dans un plat, et donnée à la fille, qui la présenta à sa mère.
And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
12 Puis ses disciples vinrent, et emportèrent son corps, et l'ensevelirent; et ils vinrent l'annoncer à Jésus.
And his disciples came, and took up the corpse, and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.
13 Et Jésus l'ayant entendu se retira de là dans une nacelle, vers un lieu désert, pour y être en particulier; ce que les troupes ayant appris, elles sortirent des villes [voisines], et le suivirent à pied.
Now when Jesus heard [it], he withdrew from thence in a boat, to a desert place apart: and when the multitudes heard [thereof], they followed him on foot from the cities.
14 Et Jésus étant sorti vit une grande multitude, et il en fut ému de compassion, et guérit leurs malades.
And he came forth, and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick.
15 Et comme il se faisait tard, ses Disciples vinrent à lui, et lui dirent: ce lieu est désert, et l'heure est déjà passée; donne congé à ces troupes, afin qu'elles s'en aillent aux bourgades, et qu'elles achètent des vivres.
And when even was come, the disciples came to him, saying, The place is desert, and the time is already past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.
16 Mais Jésus leur dit: ils n'ont pas besoin de s'en aller; donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger.
But Jesus said unto them, They have no need to go away; give ye them to eat.
17 Et ils lui dirent: nous n'avons ici que cinq pains et deux poissons.
And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18 Et il leur dit: apportez-les-moi ici.
And he said, Bring them hither to me.
19 Et après avoir commandé aux troupes de s'asseoir sur l'herbe, il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et levant les yeux au ciel, il bénit [Dieu]; puis ayant rompu les pains, il les donna aux Disciples, et les Disciples aux troupes.
And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
20 Et ils en mangèrent tous, et furent rassasiés, et ils remportèrent du reste des pièces de pain douze corbeilles pleines.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
21 Or ceux qui avaient mangé étaient environ cinq mille hommes, sans compter les femmes et les petits enfants.
And they that did eat were about five thousand men, beside women an children.
22 Incontinent après Jésus obligea ses Disciples de monter dans la nacelle, et de passer avant lui à l'autre côté, pendant qu'il donnerait congé aux troupes.
And straightway he constrained the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away.
23 Et quand il leur eut donné congé, il monta sur une montagne pour être en particulier, afin de prier; et le soir étant venu, il était là seul.
And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone.
24 Or la nacelle était déjà au milieu de la mer, battue par les vagues; car le vent était contraire.
But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves; for the wind was contrary.
25 Et sur la quatrième veille de la nuit Jésus vint vers eux, marchant sur la mer.
And in the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea.
26 Et ses Disciples le voyant marcher sur la mer, ils en furent troublés, et ils dirent: c'est un fantôme; et de la peur qu'ils eurent ils jetèrent des cris.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is an apparition; and they cried out for fear.
27 Mais tout aussitôt Jésus parla à eux, et leur dit: rassurez-vous; c'est moi, n'ayez point de peur.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 Et Pierre lui répondant, dit: Seigneur! si c'est toi, commande que j'aille à toi sur les eaux.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee upon the waters.
29 Et il lui dit: viens. Et Pierre étant descendu de la nacelle marcha sur les eaux pour aller à Jésus.
And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters, to come to Jesus.
30 Mais voyant que le vent était fort, il eut peur; et comme il commençait à s'enfoncer, il s'écria, en disant: Seigneur! sauve-moi.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.
31 Et aussitôt Jésus étendit sa main, et le prit, en lui disant: homme de petite foi, pourquoi as-tu douté?
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 Et quand ils furent montés dans la nacelle, le vent s'apaisa.
And when they were gone up into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Alors ceux qui étaient dans la nacelle, vinrent, et l'adorèrent, en disant: certes tu es le Fils de Dieu.
And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
34 Puis étant passés au-delà [de la mer], ils vinrent en la contrée de Génézareth.
And when they had crossed over, they came to the land, unto Gennesaret.
35 Et quand les gens de ce lieu-là l'eurent reconnu, ils envoyèrent [l'annoncer] par toute la contrée d'alentour; et ils lui présentèrent tous ceux qui se portaient mal.
And when the men of that place knew him, they sent into all that region round about, and brought unto him all that were sick;
36 Et ils le priaient [de permettre] qu'ils touchassent seulement le bord de sa robe; et tous ceux qui le touchèrent furent guéris.
and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole.
