Luc 14
1 Il arriva aussi que [Jésus] étant entré un jour de Sabbat dans la maison d'un des principaux des Pharisiens, pour prendre son repas, ils l'observaient.
And it was don, whanne he hadde entrid in to the hous of a prince of Farisees, in the sabat, to ete breed, thei aspieden hym.
2 Et voici, un homme hydropique était là devant lui.
And lo! a man sijk in the dropesie was bifor hym.
3 Et Jésus prenant la parole, parla aux Docteurs de la Loi, et aux Pharisiens, disant: est-il permis de guérir au jour du Sabbat?
And Jhesus answerynge spak to the wise men of lawe, and to the Farisees, and seide, Whethir it is leeueful to heele in the sabat?
4 Et ils ne dirent mot. Alors ayant pris [le malade], il le guérit, et le renvoya.
And thei helden pees. And Jhesus took, and heelide hym, and let hym go.
5 Puis s'adressant à eux, il leur dit: qui sera celui d'entre vous, qui ayant un âne ou un bœuf lequel vienne à tomber dans un puits, ne l'en retire aussitôt le jour du Sabbat?
And he answeride to hem, and seide, Whos asse or oxe of you schal falle in to a pit, and `he schal not anoon drawe hym out in the dai of the sabat?
6 Et ils ne pouvaient répliquer à ces choses.
And thei myyten not answere to hym to these thingis.
7 Il proposait aussi aux conviés une similitude, prenant garde comment ils choisissaient les premières places à table, et il leur disait:
He seide also a parable to men bodun to a feeste, and biheld hou thei chesen the first sittyng placis, and seide to hem,
8 Quand tu seras convié par quelqu'un à des noces, ne te mets point à table à la première place, de peur qu'il n'arrive qu'un plus honorable que toi soit aussi convié;
Whanne thou art bodun to bridalis, sitte not `at the mete in the firste place; lest perauenture a worthier than thou be bodun of hym,
9 Et que celui qui vous aura convié, ne vienne, et ne te dise: donne ta place à celui-ci; et qu'alors tu ne commences avec honte de te mettre à la dernière place.
and lest he come that clepide thee and hym, and seie to thee, Yyue place to this, and thanne thou schalt bigynne with schame to holde the lowest place.
10 Mais quand tu seras convié, va, et te mets à la dernière place, afin que quand celui qui t'a convié viendra, il te dise: mon ami, monte plus haut; et alors cela te tournera à honneur devant tous ceux qui seront à table avec toi.
But whanne thou art bedun to a feste, go, and sitte doun in the laste place, that whanne he cometh, that bad thee to the feeste, he seie to thee, Freend, come hiyer. Thanne worschip schal be to thee, bifor men that sitten at the mete.
11 Car quiconque s'élève, sera abaissé; et quiconque s'abaisse, sera élevé.
For ech that enhaunsith hym, schal be lowid; and he that meketh hym, schal be hiyed.
12 Il disait aussi à celui qui l'avait convié: quand tu fais un dîner ou un souper, n'invite point tes amis, ni tes frères, ni tes parents, ni tes riches voisins; de peur qu'ils ne te convient à leur tour, et que la pareille ne te soit rendue.
And he seide to hym, that hadde bodun hym to the feeste, Whanne thou makist a mete, or a soper, nyle thou clepe thi freendis, nether thi britheren, nethir cosyns, nethir neiyboris, ne riche men; lest perauenture thei bidde thee ayen to the feeste, and it be yolde ayen to thee.
13 Mais quand tu feras un festin, convie les pauvres, les impotents, les boiteux et les aveugles;
But whanne thou makist a feeste, clepe pore men,
14 Et tu seras bienheureux de ce qu'ils n'ont pas de quoi te rendre la pareille; car la pareille te sera rendue en la résurrection des justes.
feble, crokid, and blynde, and thou schalt be blessid; for thei han not wherof to yelde thee, for it schal be yoldun to thee in the risyng ayen of iust men.
15 Et un de ceux qui étaient à table, ayant entendu ces paroles, lui dit: bienheureux sera celui qui mangera du pain dans le Royaume de Dieu.
And whanne oon of hem that saten togider at the mete hadde herd these thingis, he seide to hym, Blessid is he, that schal ete breed in the rewme of God.
16 Et [Jésus] dit: un homme fit un grand souper, et y convia beaucoup de gens.
And he seide to hym, A man made a greet soper, and clepide many.
17 Et à l'heure du souper il envoya son serviteur pour dire aux conviés: venez, car tout est déjà prêt.
And he sent his seruaunt in the our of soper, to seie to men that weren bodun to the feeste, that thei schulden come, for now alle thingis ben redi.
18 Mais ils commencèrent tous unanimement à s'excuser. Le premier lui dit: j'ai acheté un héritage, et il me faut nécessairement partir pour l'aller voir; je te prie, tiens-moi pour excusé.
And alle bigunnen togidir to excusen hem. The firste seide, Y haue bouyt a toun, and Y haue nede to go out, and se it; Y preye thee, haue me excusid.
19 Un autre dit: j'ai acheté cinq couples de bœufs, et je m'en vais les éprouver; je te prie, tiens-moi pour excusé.
And the tother seide, Y haue bouyt fyue yockis of oxun, and Y go to preue hem; Y preye thee, haue me excusid.
20 Et un autre dit: j'ai épousé une femme, c'est pourquoi je n'y puis aller.
And an othir seide, Y haue weddid a wijf; and therfor Y may not come.
21 Ainsi le serviteur s'en retourna, et rapporta ces choses à son maître. Alors le père de famille tout en colère, dit à son serviteur: va-t'en promptement dans les places et dans les rues de la ville, et amène ici les pauvres, et les impotents, et les boiteux et les aveugles.
And the seruaunt turnede ayen, and tolde these thingis to his lord. Thanne the hosebonde man was wrooth, and seide to his seruaunt, Go out swithe in to the grete stretis and smal stretis of the citee, and brynge ynne hidir pore men, and feble, blynde, and crokid.
22 Puis le serviteur dit: Maître, il a été fait ainsi que tu as commandé, et il y a encore de la place.
And the seruaunt seide, Lord, it is don, as thou hast comaundid, and yit there is a void place.
23 Et le maître dit au serviteur: va dans les chemins et le long des haies, et [ceux que tu trouveras], contrains-les d'entrer, afin que ma maison soit remplie.
And the lord seide to the seruaunt, Go out in to weies and heggis, and constreine men to entre, that myn hous be fulfillid.
24 Car je vous dis qu'aucun de ces hommes qui avaient été conviés ne goûtera de mon souper.
For Y seie to you, that noon of tho men that ben clepid, schal taaste my soper.
25 Or de grandes troupes allaient avec lui; et lui se tournant leur dit:
And myche puple wenten with hym; and he turnede, and seide to hem,
26 Si quelqu'un vient vers moi, et ne hait pas son père et sa mère, et sa femme et ses enfants, et ses frères, et ses sœurs, et même sa propre vie, il ne peut être mon disciple.
If ony man cometh to me, and hatith not his fadir, and modir, and wijf, and sones, and britheren, and sistris, and yit his owne lijf, he may not be my disciple.
27 Et quiconque ne porte sa croix, et ne vient après moi, il ne peut être mon disciple.
And he that berith not his cross, and cometh aftir me, may not be my disciple.
28 Mais qui est celui d'entre vous, qui voulant bâtir une tour, ne s'asseye premièrement, et ne calcule la dépense pour voir s'il a de quoi l'achever?
For who of you willynge to bilde a toure, whether he `first sitte not, and countith the spensis that ben nedeful, if he haue to perfourme?
29 De peur qu'après en avoir jeté le fondement, et n'ayant pu achever, tous ceux qui le verront ne commencent à se moquer de lui;
Lest aftir that he hath set the foundement, and mowe not perfourme, alle that seen, bigynnen to scorne hym, and seie, For this man bigan to bilde,
30 En disant: cet homme a commencé à bâtir, et il n'a pu achever.
and myyte not make an ende.
31 Ou, qui est le Roi qui parte pour donner bataille à un autre Roi, qui premièrement ne s'asseye, et ne consulte s'il pourra avec dix mille [hommes] aller à la rencontre de celui qui vient contre lui avec vingt mille?
Or what kyng that wole go to do a bataile ayens anothir kyng, whether he sittith not first, and bithenkith, if he may with ten thousynde go ayens hym that cometh ayens hym with twenti thousynde?
32 Autrement, il lui envoie une ambassade, pendant qu'il est encore loin, et demande la paix.
Ellis yit while he is afer, he sendynge a messanger, preieth tho thingis that ben of pees.
33 Ainsi donc chacun de vous qui ne renonce pas à tout ce qu'il a, ne peut être mon disciple.
So therfor ech of you, that forsakith not alle thingis that he hath, may not be my disciple.
34 Le sel est bon; mais si le sel devient insipide, avec quoi le salera-t-on?
Salt is good; but if salt vanysche, in what thing schal it be sauerid?
35 Il n'est propre ni pour la terre, ni pour le fumier; [mais] on le jette dehors. Qui a des oreilles pour ouïr, qu'il entende!
Nethir in erthe, nethir in donghille it is profitable, but it schal be cast out. He that hath eeris of herynge, here he.
