Juges 9
1 Et Abimélec, fils de Jérubbahal, s'en alla à Sichem vers les frères de sa mère, et leur parla, et à toute la famille de la maison du père de sa mère, en disant:
And he went Abimelech [the] son of Jerub-Baal Shechem towards to [the] brothers of mother his and he spoke to them and to all [the] clan of [the] house of [the] father of mother his saying.
2 Je vous prie, faites entendre ces paroles à tous les Seigneurs de Sichem; Lequel vous semble le meilleur, ou que soixante-dix hommes, tous enfants de Jérubbahal, dominent sur vous; ou qu'un seul homme domine sur vous? et souvenez-vous que je suis votre os et votre chair.
Speak please in [the] ears of all [the] citizens of Shechem what? [is] good for you ¿ to rule over you seventy man all [the] sons of Jerub-Baal or? to rule over you a man one and you will remember that [am] bone your and flesh your I.
3 Les frères donc de sa mère dirent de sa part toutes ces paroles, les Seigneurs de Sichem l'entendant; et leur cœur fut incliné vers Abimélec; car ils dirent, c'est notre frère.
And they spoke [the] brothers of mother his on him in [the] ears of all [the] citizens of Shechem all the words these and it turned aside heart their after Abimelech for they said [is] brother our he.
4 Et ils lui donnèrent soixante-dix [pièces] d'argent [prises] de la maison de Bahal-bérith, avec lesquelles Abimélec leva des hommes n'ayant rien, et vagabonds, qui le suivirent.
And they gave to him seventy silver (from [the] house of Baal-*L(abh)*) Berith and he hired for them Abimelech men unprincipled and undisciplined and they went after him.
5 Et il vint en la maison de son père à Hophra, et tua sur une même pierre ses frères, enfants de Jérubbahal, qui étaient soixante-dix hommes; mais Jotham, le plus petit fils de Jérubbahal, demeura de reste, parce qu'il s'était caché.
And he went [the] house of father his Ophrah towards and he killed brothers his [the] sons of Jerub-Baal (seventy *L(abh)*) man on stone one and he was left Jotham [the] son of Jerub-Baal young for he hid himself.
6 Et tous les Seigneurs de Sichem s'assemblèrent, avec toute la maison de Millo, et ils vinrent, et établirent Abimélec pour Roi auprès du bois de chênes qui est en Sichem.
And they gathered all [the] citizens of Shechem and all Beth Millo and they went and they made king Abimelech to king near [the] great tree set up which [was] in Shechem.
7 Et on le rapporta à Jotham, qui s'en alla, et se tint au sommet de la montagne de Guérizim, et élevant sa voix, il cria, et leur dit: Ecoutez-moi, Seigneurs de Sichem, et que Dieu vous entende.
And people told to Jotham and he went and he stood on [the] top of [the] mountain of Gerizim and he lifted up voice his and he called out and he said to them listen to me O citizens of Shechem so he may listen to you God.
8 Les arbres allèrent [un jour] en toute diligence pour oindre sur eux un Roi, et ils dirent à l'olivier: Règne sur nous.
Certainly they went the trees to anoint over them a king and they said to the olive tree (reign! *Q(k)*) over us.
9 Mais l'olivier leur répondit: Me ferait-on quitter ma graisse, par laquelle Dieu et les hommes sont honorés, afin que j'aille m'agiter pour les [autres] arbres?
And it said to them the olive tree ¿ will I cease fatness my which by me people honor gods and men and will I go to sway over the trees.
10 Puis les arbres dirent au figuier: Viens toi, [et] règne sur nous.
And they said the trees to the fig tree come you reign over us.
11 Et le figuier leur répondit: Me ferait-on quitter ma douceur, et mon bon fruit, afin que j'aille m'agiter pour les [autres] arbres?
And it said to them the fig tree ¿ will I cease sweetness my and fruit my good and will I go to sway over the trees.
12 Puis les arbres dirent à la vigne: Viens toi, et règne sur nous.
And they said the trees to the vine come you (reign *Q(k)*) over us.
13 Et la vigne répondit: Me ferait-on quitter mon bon vin, qui réjouit Dieu et les hommes, afin que j'aille m'agiter pour les [autres] arbres?
And it said to them the vine ¿ will I cease new wine my which makes glad gods and men and will I go to sway over the trees.
14 Alors tous les arbres dirent à l'épine: Viens toi, et règne sur nous.
And they said all the trees to the thorn bush come you reign over us.
15 Et l'épine répondit aux arbres: Si c'est en sincérité que vous m'oignez pour Roi sur vous, venez, et retirez-vous sous mon ombre; sinon, que le feu sorte de l'épine, et qu'il dévore les cèdres du Liban.
And it said the thorn bush to the trees if in truth you [are] anointing me to king over you come take refuge in shade my and if not let it go out a fire from the thorn bush and let it consume [the] cedars of Lebanon.
16 Maintenant donc, si vous avez agi avec sincérité et avec intégrité, en établissant Abimélec pour Roi, et si vous en avez bien usé envers Jérubbahal et sa maison, et si vous lui avez fait selon qu'il vous y a obligés par ses actions.
And now if in faithfulness and in integrity you have acted and you have made king Abimelech and if good you have done with Jerub-Baal and with house his and if according to [the] dealing of hands his you have done to him.
17 (Car mon père a combattu pour vous, et a exposé sa vie, et vous a délivrés de la main de Madian.
That he fought father my on you and he threw life his from in front and he delivered you from [the] hand of Midian.
18 Mais vous vous êtes élevés aujourd'hui contre la maison de mon père, et avez tué sur une pierre ses enfants, [qui étaient] soixante-dix hommes, et avez établi pour Roi Abimélec fils de sa servante, sur les Seigneurs de Sichem, parce qu'il est votre frère.)
And you you have risen up on [the] house of father my this day and you have killed sons his seventy man on stone one and you have made king Abimelech [the] son of female slave his over [the] citizens of Shechem for [is] brother your he.
19 Si, dis-je, vous avez agi aujourd'hui avec sincérité et avec intégrité envers Jérubbahal, et envers sa maison, réjouissez-vous d'Abimélec, et qu'il se réjouisse aussi de vous.
And if in faithfulness and in integrity you have acted with Jerub-Baal and with house his the day this rejoice in Abimelech so he may rejoice also he in you.
20 Sinon, que le feu sorte d'Abimélec, et qu'il dévore les Seigneurs de Sichem, et la maison de Millo; et que le feu sorte des Seigneurs de Sichem, et de la maison de Millo, et qu'il dévore Abimélec.
And if not let it go out a fire from Abimelech and let it consume [the] citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo and let it go out a fire from [the] citizens of Shechem and from Beth Millo and let it consume Abimelech.
21 Puis Jotham s'enfuit en diligence, et s'en alla à Béer, et y demeura, à cause d'Abimélec son frère.
And he fled Jotham and he ran away and he went Beer towards and he dwelt there [away] from before Abimelech brother his.
22 Et Abimélec domina sur Israël trois ans.
And he ruled Abimelech over Israel three years.
23 Mais Dieu envoya un mauvais esprit entre Abimélec et les Seigneurs de Sichem; et les Seigneurs de Sichem furent infidèles à Abimélec.
And he sent God a spirit evil between Abimelech and between [the] citizens of Shechem and they dealt treacherously [the] citizens of Shechem with Abimelech.
24 Afin que la violence faite aux soixante-dix fils de Jérubbahal, et leur sang, retournât sur Abimélec leur frère, qui les avait tués; et sur les Seigneurs de Sichem qui lui avaient tenu la main pour tuer ses frères.
To come [the] violence of seventy [the] sons of Jerub-Baal and blood their to put on Abimelech brother their who he killed them and on [the] citizens of Shechem who they strengthened hands his to kill brothers his.
25 Les Seigneurs de Sichem donc lui mirent des embûches sur le sommet des montagnes, et ils pillaient tous ceux qui passaient près d'eux par le chemin. Ce qui fut rapporté à Abimélec.
And they set to him [the] citizens of Shechem ambushers on [the] tops of the mountains and they robbed every [one] who he passed by on them on the road and it was told to Abimelech.
26 Alors Gahal, fils de Hébed, vint avec ses frères, et ils entrèrent dans Sichem; et les Seigneurs de Sichem eurent confiance en lui.
And he came Gaal [the] son of Ebed and brothers his and they passed on in Shechem and they trusted in him [the] citizens of Shechem.
27 Puis étant sortis aux champs ils vendangèrent leurs vignes, et en foulèrent [les raisins], et firent bonne chère; et ils entrèrent dans la maison de leur Dieu, et ils mangèrent, et burent, et maudirent Abimélec.
And they went out the field and they gathered grapes vineyards their and they trod [them] and they made rejoicings and they went [the] house of god their and they ate and they drank and they cursed Abimelech.
28 Alors Gahal, fils de Hébed, dit: Qui est Abimélec, et quelle est Sichem, que nous servions Abimélec? [N'est-il pas] fils de Jérubbahal? Et Zébul [n'est-il pas] son prévôt? Servez [plutôt] les hommes de Hémor, père de Sichem. Mais pour quelle raison servirions-nous celui-ci?
And he said - Gaal [the] son of Ebed who? [is] Abimelech and who? [is] Shechem that we will serve him ¿ not [is he] [the] son of Jerub-Baal and [is] Zebul? deputy his serve [the] men of Hamor [the] father of Shechem and why? will we serve him we.
29 Plût à Dieu qu'on me donnât ce peuple sous ma conduite, et je chasserais Abimélec. Et il dit à Abimélec: Multiplie ton armée, et sors.
And who? will he give the people this in hand my and I will remove Abimelech and he said of Abimelech make numerous army your and come out!
30 Et Zébul, capitaine de la ville, entendit les paroles de Gahal, fils de Hébed, et sa colère s'enflamma.
And he heard Zebul [the] official of the city [the] words of Gaal [the] son of Ebed and it burned anger his.
31 Puis il envoya adroitement des messagers vers Abimélec, pour lui dire: Voici, Gahal fils de Hébed, et ses frères, sont entrés dans Sichem; et voici, ils arment la ville contre toi.
And he sent messengers to Abimelech in treachery saying here! Gaal [the] son of Ebed and brothers his [are] coming Shechem towards and here they [are] shutting up the city on you.
32 Maintenant donc lève-toi de nuit, toi, et le peuple qui est avec toi, et mets des embûches aux champs.
And therefore arise night you and the people which [is] with you and lie in wait in the field.
33 Et au matin, environ le soleil levant, tu te lèveras de matin, et te jetteras sur la ville; et voici, [Gahal] et le peuple qui est avec lui, sortiront contre toi, et tu lui feras selon que tu en trouveras le moyen.
And it will be in the morning when rises the sun you will rise early and you will make a raid on the city and there! he and the people which [is] with him [are] going out against you and you will do to him just as it will find hand your.
34 Abimélec donc se leva de nuit, et tout le peuple qui était avec lui, et ils mirent des embûches contre Sichem, et [les partagèrent] en quatre bandes.
And he arose Abimelech and all the people which [was] with him night and they lay in wait on Shechem four companies.
35 Alors Gahal, fils de Hébed, sortit, et s'arrêta à l'entrée de la porte de la ville; et Abimélec, et tout le peuple qui était avec lui se levèrent de l'embuscade.
And he went out Gaal [the] son of Ebed and he stood [the] entrance of [the] gate of the city and he arose Abimelech and the people which [was] with him from the ambush.
36 Et Gahal ayant aperçu ce peuple-là, dit à Zébul: Voici du peuple qui descend du sommet des montagnes. Et Zébul lui dit: Tu vois l'ombre des montagnes, comme si c'étaient des hommes.
And he saw Gaal the people and he said to Zebul there! a people [is] coming down from [the] tops of the mountains and he said to him Zebul [the] shadow of the mountains you [are] seeing like men.
37 Et Gahal parla encore, et dit: Voilà du peuple qui descend du milieu du pays, et une bande vient du chemin du bois de chênes des devins.
And he repeated again Gaal to speak and he said there! a people [are] coming down from with [the] center of the land and a company one [is] coming from [the] direction of [the] great tree of [the] soothsayer.
38 Et Zébul lui dit: Où est maintenant ta vanterie, quand tu disais: Qui est Abimélec, que nous le servions? N'est-ce pas ici ce peuple que tu as méprisé? Sors maintenant, je te prie, et combats contr'eux.
And he said to him Zebul where? then [is] mouth your O [you] who you said who? [is] Abimelech that we will serve him ¿ not [is] this the people which you rejected it go out please now and fight against him.
39 Alors Gahal sortit conduisant les Seigneurs de Sichem, et combattit contre Abimélec.
And he went out Gaal before [the] citizens of Shechem and he fought against Abimelech.
40 Et Abimélec le poursuivit, comme il s'enfuyait de devant lui, et plusieurs tombèrent morts jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte.
And he pursued him Abimelech and he fled from before him and they fell [those] fatally wounded many to [the] entrance of the gate.
41 Et Abimélec s'arrêta à Aruma; et Zébul repoussa Gahal et ses frères, afin qu'ils ne demeurassent plus dans Sichem.
And he dwelt Abimelech at Arumah and he drove out Zebul Gaal and brothers his from dwelling at Shechem.
42 Et il arriva dès le lendemain que le peuple sortit aux champs; ce qui fut rapporté à Abimélec;
And it was from [the] next day and it went out the people the field and people told to Abimelech.
43 Lequel prit du peuple, et le divisa en trois bandes, et les mit en embuscade dans les champs, et ayant aperçu que le peuple sortait de la ville, il se leva contr'eux, et les défit.
And he took the people and he divided them into three companies and he lay in wait in the field and he saw and there! the people [was] going out from the city and he rose up on them and he struck down them.
44 car Abimélec, et la bande qui était avec lui se répandirent, et se tinrent à l'entrée de la porte de la ville, mais les deux autres bandes se jetèrent sur tous ceux qui étaient aux champs, et les défirent.
And Abimelech and the companies which [were] with him they made a raid and they stood [the] entrance of [the] gate of the city and [the] two the companies they made a raid on all [those] who [were] in the field and they struck down them.
45 Ainsi Abimélec combattit tout ce jour-là contre la ville, et prit la ville, et tua le peuple qui y était, et ayant rasé la ville, y sema du sel.
And Abimelech [was] fighting against the city all the day that and he captured the city and the people which [was] in it he killed and he pulled down the city and he sowed it salt.
46 Et tous les Seigneurs de la Tour de Sichem, ayant appris cela, se retirèrent dans le fort, qui était la maison du Dieu Bérith.
And they heard all [the] citizens of [the] tower of Shechem and they went into [the] underground chamber of [the] house of El-Berith.
47 Et on rapporta à Abimélec que tous les Seigneurs de la Tour de Sichem s'étaient assemblés [dans le fort].
And it was told to Abimelech that they had gathered together all [the] citizens of [the] tower of Shechem.
48 Alors Abimélec monta sur le mont Tsalmon, lui et tout le peuple qui était avec lui; et Abimélec prit une hache et coupa une branche d'arbre, et l'ayant mise sur son épaule, la porta, et dit au peuple qui était avec lui: Avez-vous vu ce que j'ai fait? dépêchez-vous, faites comme moi.
And he went up Abimelech [the] mountain of Zalmon he and all the people which [was] with him and he took Abimelech the axes in hand his and he cut off a branch of wood and he lifted up it and he put [it] on shoulder his and he said to the people which [was] with him whatever you have seen I have done hurry do like me.
49 Chacun donc de tout le peuple coupa une branche, et ils suivirent Abimélec, et mirent [ces branches] tout autour du fort, et y ayant mis le feu, ils brûlèrent le fort. Et toutes les personnes de la Tour de Sichem moururent, au nombre d'environ mille, tant hommes que femmes.
And they cut off also all the people everyone own branch his and they went after Abimelech and they put [them] over the underground chamber and they set on fire over them the underground chamber with fire and they died also all [the] men of [the] tower of Shechem about a thousand man and woman.
50 Puis Abimélec s'en allant à Tébets, y mit son camp, et la prit.
And he went Abimelech to Thebez and he encamped at Thebez and he captured it.
51 Or il y avait au milieu de la ville une Tour forte, où s'enfuirent tous les hommes et toutes les femmes, et tous les Seigneurs de la ville, et ayant fermé les portes après eux, ils montèrent sur le toit de la Tour.
And a tower of strength it was in [the] middle of the city and they fled there towards all the men and the women and all [the] citizens of the city and they shut [the] door behind them and they went up on [the] roof of the tower.
52 Alors Abimélec venant jusqu'à la Tour, l'attaqua, et s'approcha jusqu'à la porte de la Tour pour la brûler par feu.
And he came Abimelech to the tower and he fought against it and he drew near to [the] entrance of the tower to burn it with fire.
53 Mais une femme jeta une pièce de meule sur la tête d'Abimélec, et lui cassa le crâne.
And she threw a woman one a mill-stone of an upper mill-stone on [the] head of Abimelech and it crushed skull his.
54 Lequel ayant appelé incessamment le garçon qui portait ses armes, lui dit: Tire ton épée, et me tue, de peur qu'on ne dise de moi, une femme l'a tué. Son garçon donc le transperça, et il mourut.
And he called quickly to the young man - [who] carried armor his and he said to him draw sword your and kill me lest people should say of me a woman she killed him and he pierced through him young man his and he died.
55 Et ceux d'Israël voyant qu'Abimélec était mort, s'en allèrent chacun en son lieu.
And they saw [the] man of Israel that he was dead Abimelech and they went everyone to own place his.
56 Ainsi Dieu rendit à Abimélec le mal qu'il avait commis contre son père, en tuant ses soixante-dix frères;
And he repaid God [the] evil of Abimelech which he had done to father his by killing seventy brothers his.
57 Et toute la méchanceté des hommes de Sichem; Dieu, [dis-je], la fit retourner sur leurs têtes; et ainsi la malédiction de Jotham, fils de Jérubbahal, vint sur eux.
And all [the] evil of [the] men of Shechem he repaid God on head their and it came to them [the] curse of Jotham [the] son of Jerub-Baal.
