Juges 6
1 Or les enfants d'Israël firent ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel; et l'Eternel les livra entre les mains de Madian pendant sept ans.
Forsothe the sones of Israel diden yuel in the `siyt of the Lord, and he bitook hem in the hond of Madian seuene yeer.
2 Et la main de Madian se renforça contre Israël, [et] à cause des Madianites les enfants d'Israël se firent des creux qui sont dans les montagnes, et des cavernes, et des forts.
And thei weren oppressid of hem greetly; and `thei maden dichis, and dennes to hem silf in hillis, and strongeste places to fiyte ayen.
3 Car il arrivait que quand Israël avait semé, Madian montait avec Hamalec et les Orientaux, et ils montaient contre lui.
And whanne Israel hadde sowe, Madian stiede, and Amalech, and othere of the `naciouns of the eest;
4 Et faisant un camp contr'eux ils ravageaient les fruits du pays jusqu'à Gaza, et ne laissaient rien de reste en Israël, ni vivres, ni menu bétail, ni bœufs, ni ânes.
and thei settiden tentis at the sones of Israel, and wastiden alle thingis `as tho weren in eerbis, ethir grene corn, `til to the entryng of Gaza, and outirli thei leften not in Israel ony thing perteynynge to lijf, not scheep, not oxun, not assis.
5 Car eux et leurs troupeaux montaient, et ils venaient avec leurs tentes en aussi grand nombre que des sauterelles, tellement qu'eux et leurs chameaux étaient sans nombre; et ils venaient au pays pour le ravager.
For thei and alle her flockis camen with her tabernaclis, and at the licnesse of locustus thei filliden alle thingis, and a multitude of men and of camels was with out noumbre, and wastiden what euer thing thei touchiden.
6 Israël donc fut fort appauvri par Madian, et les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Eternel.
And Israel was `maad low greetli in the siyt of Madian.
7 Et il arriva que quand les enfants d'Israël eurent crié à l'Eternel à l'occasion de Madian,
And Israel criede to the Lord, `and axyde help ayens Madianytis; and he sente to hem a man,
8 L'Eternel envoya un Prophète vers les enfants d'Israël, qui leur dit: Ainsi a dit l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël: Je vous ai fait monter hors d'Egypte, et je vous ai retirés de la maison de servitude;
a profete, and he spak, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Y made you to stie fro Egipt, and Y ledde you out of the hows of seruage,
9 Et vous ai délivrés de la main des Egyptiens, et de la main de tous ceux qui vous opprimaient, et les ai chassés de devant vous, et vous ai donné leur pays.
and Y delyueride you fro the hond of Egipcians, and of alle enemyes that turmentiden you; and Y castide hem out at youre entryng, and Y yaf to you `the lond of hem;
10 Je vous ai dit aussi: Je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu, vous ne craindrez point les dieux des Amorrhéens, au pays desquels vous habitez; mais vous n'avez point obéi à ma voix.
and Y seide, Y am `youre Lord God; drede ye not the goddis of Ammorreis, in whose lond ye dwellen; and ye nolden here my vois.
11 Puis l'Ange de l'Eternel vint, et s'assit sous un chêne qui était à Hophra, appartenant à Joas Abihézérite. Et Gédeon son fils battait le froment dans le pressoir, pour le sauver de devant Madian.
Forsothe an aungel of the Lord cam, and sat undur an ook, that was in Effra, and perteynede to Joas, fadir of the meinee of Ezri. And whanne Gedeon, `his sone, threischide out, and purgide wheetis in a pressour,
12 Alors l'Ange de l'Eternel lui apparut, et lui dit: Très-fort et vaillant homme, l'Eternel est avec toi.
that he schulde fle Madian, an aungel of the Lord apperide to hym, and seide, The Lord be with thee, thou strongeste of men.
13 Et Gédeon lui répondit: Hélas mon Seigneur! [est-il possible] que l'Eternel soit avec nous? et pourquoi donc toutes ces choses nous sont-elles arrivées? Et où sont toutes ces merveilles que nos pères nous ont récitées, en disant: L'Eternel ne nous a-t-il pas fait monter hors d'Egypte? car maintenant l'Eternel nous a abandonnés, et nous a livrés entre les mains des Madianites.
And Gedeon seide to hym, My lord, Y biseche, if the Lord is with vs, whi therfor han alle these yuels take vs? Where ben the merueils of hym, whiche oure fadris telden, and seiden, The Lord ledde vs out of Egipt? `Now forsothe he hath forsake vs, and hath bitake vs in the hond of Madian.
14 Et l'Eternel le regardant lui dit: Va avec cette force que tu as, et tu délivreras Israël de la main des Madianites; ne t'ai-je pas envoyé?
And the Lord bihelde to hym, and seide, Go thou in this strengthe of thee, and thou schalt delyuere Israel fro the hond of Madian; wite thou, that Y sente thee.
15 Et il lui répondit: Hélas, mon Seigneur! par quel moyen délivrerai-je Israël? Voici, mon millier est le plus pauvre qui soit en Manassé, et je suis le plus petit de la maison de mon père.
Which Gedeon answeride, and seide, My lord, Y biseche, in what thing schal Y delyuere Israel? Lo! my meynee is the loweste in Manasses, and Y am the leeste in the hows of my fadir.
16 Et l'Eternel lui dit: Parce que je serai avec toi, tu frapperas les Madianites comme s'ils n'étaient qu'un seul homme.
And the Lord seide to hym, Y schal be with thee, and thou schalt smyte Madian as o man.
17 Et il lui répondit: Je te prie, si j'ai trouvé grâce devant toi, de me donner un signe [pour montrer] que c'est toi qui parles avec moi.
And Gedeon seide, If Y haue foundun grace bifor thee, yyue to me a signe, that thou, that spekist to me, art sente of Goddis part;
18 Je te prie, ne t'en va point d'ici jusqu'à ce que je revienne à toi, et que j'apporte mon présent, et que je le mette devant toi. Et il dit: J'y demeurerai jusqu'à ce que tu reviennes.
go thou not `awei fro hennus, til Y turne ayen to thee, and brynge sacrifice, and offre to thee. Whiche answeride, Y schal abide thi comyng.
19 Alors Gédeon rentra, et apprêta un chevreau de lait, et des gâteaux sans levain d'un Epha de farine; mit la chair dans un panier, le bouillon dans un pot, et il les lui apporta sous le chêne, et les lui présenta.
And so Gedeon entride, and sethide a kide, and took therf looues of a buyschel of mell, and fleischis in a panyere; and he sente the broth of fleischis in a pot, and bar alle thingis vndur an ook, and offride to hym.
20 Et l'Ange de Dieu lui dit: Prends cette chair et ces gâteaux sans levain, et mets-les sur ce rocher, et répands le bouillon; et il le fit ainsi.
To whom the aungel of the Lord seide, Take thou the fleischis, and therf looues, and putte on that stoon, and schede the broth aboue. And whanne he hadde do so,
21 Alors l'Ange de l'Eternel ayant étendu le bâton qu'il avait en sa main, toucha la chair et les gâteaux sans levain, et le feu monta du rocher, et consuma la chair et les gâteaux sans levain; puis l'Ange de l'Eternel s'en alla de devant lui.
the aungel of the Lord helde forth the `ende of the yerde which he helde in the hond, and he touchide the fleischis, and the therf looues; and fier stiede fro the stoon, and wastide the fleischis, and therf looues. Forsothe the aungel of the Lord vanyschide fro hise iyen.
22 Et Gédeon vit que c'était l'Ange de l'Eternel, et il dit: ha, Seigneur Eternel; est-ce pour cela que j'ai vu l'Ange de l'Eternel face à face?
And Gedeon siy that he was `an aungel of the Lord, and seide, Lord God, alas to me, for Y siy the aungel of the Lord face to face.
23 Et l'Eternel lui dit: Il va bien pour toi; ne crains point, tu ne mourras point.
And the Lord seide to hym, Pees be with thee; drede thou not, thou schalt not die.
24 Et Gédeon bâtit là un autel à l'Eternel, et l'appela L'ETERNEL DE PAIX. Et cet autel est demeuré jusqu'à aujourd'hui à Hophra des Abihézérites.
Therfor Gedeon bildide there an auter to the Lord, and he clepide it the Pees of the Lord, `til in to present dai. And whanne he was yit in Effra, which is of the meynee of Ezri, the Lord seide to hym in that nyyt,
25 Or il arriva en cette nuit-là que l'Eternel lui dit: Prends un taureau d'entre les bœufs qui sont à ton père, savoir le deuxième taureau, de sept ans; et démolis l'autel de Bahal qui est à ton père, et coupe le bocage qui est auprès;
Take thou `the bole of thy fadir, and anothir bole of seuene yeer, and thou schalt distrie the auter of Baal, which is thi fadris, and kitte thou doun the wode, which is aboute the auter;
26 Et bâtis un autel à l'Eternel ton Dieu sur le haut de ce fort, en un lieu convenable. Tu prendras ce deuxième taureau, et tu l'offriras en holocauste avec les arbres du bocage que tu couperas.
and thou schalt bilde an auter to thi Lord God in the hiynesse of this stoon, on which thou puttidist sacrifice bifore; and thou schalt take the secounde bole, and thou schalt offre brent sacrifice on the heep of trees, whiche thou kittidist doun of the wode.
27 Gédeon donc ayant pris dix hommes d'entre ses serviteurs, fit comme l'Eternel lui avait dit; et parce qu'il craignait la maison de son père et les gens de la ville, s'il l'eût fait de jour, il le fit de nuit.
Therfore Gedeon took ten men of hise seruauntis, and dide as the Lord comaundide to hym. Sotheli Gedeon dredde the hows of his fadir, and the men of that citee, and nolde do bi dai, but fillide alle thingis bi nyyt.
28 Et les gens de la ville se levèrent de bon matin, et voici, l'autel de Bahal avait été démoli, et le bocage qui était auprès, était coupé, et le deuxième taureau était offert en holocauste sur l'autel qu'on avait bâti.
And whanne men of that citee hadde rise eerly, thei sien the auter of Baal distried, and the wode kit doun, and the tothir bole put on the auter, that was bildid thanne.
29 Et ils se disaient les uns aux autres: Qui a fait ceci? Et s'en étant informés, et ayant cherché, ils dirent: Gédeon le fils de Joas a fait ceci.
And thei seiden togidere, Who hath do this? And whanne thei enqueriden the doer of the deed, it was seid, Gedeon, the sone of Joas, dide alle these thingis.
30 Puis les gens de la ville dirent à Joas: Fais sortir ton fils, et qu'il meure; car il a démoli l'autel de Bahal, et a coupé le bocage qui était auprès.
And thei seiden to Joas, Brynge forth thi sone hidur, that he die, for he distriede the auter of Baal, and kittide doun the wode.
31 Et Joas répondit à tous ceux qui s'adressèrent à lui: Est-ce vous qui prendrez la cause de Bahal? Est-ce vous qui le sauverez? Quiconque aura pris sa cause, sera mis à mort d'ici au matin. S'il est Dieu, qu'il défende sa cause, de ce qu'on a démoli son autel.
To whiche he answeride, Whether ye ben the venieris of Baal, that ye fiyte for hym? he that is aduersarie of hym, die, bifor that the `liyt of the morew dai come; if he is God, venge he hym silf of hym that castide doun his auter.
32 Et en ce jour-là il appela Gédeon Jérubbahal, et dit: Que Bahal défende sa cause de ce que [Gédeon] a démoli son autel.
Fro that dai Gedeon was clepid Gerobaal, for Joas hadde seid, Baal take veniaunce of hym that castide doun his auter.
33 Or tous les Madianites, les Hamalécites, et les Orientaux s'assemblèrent tous, et ayant passé le Jourdain ils se campèrent en la vallée de Jizréhel.
Therfor al Madian, and Amalech, and the puplis of the eest weren gadirid to gidere, and passiden Jordan, and settiden tentis in the valey of Jezrael.
34 Et l'Esprit de l'Eternel revêtit Gédeon; lequel sonna de la trompette, et les Abihézérites s'assemblèrent auprès de lui.
Forsothe the spirit of the Lord clothide Gedeon; `and he sownede with a clarioun, and clepide to gidere the hows of Abiezer, that it schulde sue hym.
35 Il envoya aussi des messagers par toute [la Tribu de] Manassé, qui s'assembla aussi auprès de lui; puis il envoya des messagers en Aser, en Zabulon, et en Nephthali, lesquels montèrent pour aller au-devant d'eux.
And he sente messangeris in to al Manasses, and he suede Gedeon; and he sente othere messangeris in to Aser, and Zabulon, and Neptalym, whiche camen to hym.
36 Et Gédeon dit à Dieu: Si tu dois délivrer Israël par mon moyen, comme tu l'as dit,
And Gedeon seide to the Lord, If thou makist saaf Israel bi myn hond, as thou hast spoke,
37 Voici, je m'en vais mettre une toison dans l'aire; si la rosée est sur la toison seule, et que le sec soit dans toute la place, je connaîtrai que tu délivreras Israël par mon moyen, selon que tu m'en as parlé.
Y schal putte this flees of wolle in the corn floor; if dew is in the flees aloone, and drynesse is in al the erthe, Y schal wite, that thou schalt delyuere Israel bi myn hond, as thou hast spoke.
38 Et la chose arriva ainsi, car s'étant levé de bon matin le lendemain, et ayant pressé cette toison, il en fit sortir pleine une tasse d'eau de rosée.
And it was don so. And he roos bi nyyt, and whanne the flees was wrongun out, he fillide a pot with deew;
39 Gédeon dit encore à Dieu: Que ta colère ne s'enflamme point contre moi, et je parlerai seulement cette fois; je te prie, que je fasse un essai en la toison encore cette fois seulement; je te prie qu'il n'y ait rien de sec que la toison, et fais que la rosée soit sur toute la place [de l'aire].
and he seide eft to the Lord, Thi strong veniaunce be not wrooth ayens me, if Y asaie, `that is, axe a signe, yit onys, and seke a signe in the flees; Y preye, that the flees aloone be drie, and al the erthe be moist with deew.
40 Et Dieu fit ainsi cette nuit-là; car il n'y eut rien de sec que la toison, et la rosée fut sur toute la place de l'aire.
And the Lord dide in that nyyt, as Gedeon axide; and drynesse was in the flees aloone, and deew was in al the erthe.
