Juges 12
1 Or les hommes d'Ephraïm s'étant assemblés, passèrent vers le Septentrion, et dirent à Jephthé: Pourquoi es-tu passé pour combattre contre les enfants de Hammon, et que tu ne nous as point appelés pour aller avec toi? Nous brûlerons au feu ta maison, et te [brûlerons] aussi.
And the men of Ephraim were called together, and passed over northward, —and said unto Jephthah—Wherefore didst thou pass over to do battle with the sons of Ammon, and, for us, didst not call, to go with thee? Thy house, will we consume over thee with fire.
2 Et Jephthé leur dit: J'ai eu un grand différend avec les enfants de Hammon, moi et mon peuple, et quand je vous ai appelés, vous ne m'avez point délivré de leurs mains.
And Jephthah said unto them, Great strife, had, I and my people, even with the sons of Ammon; but, when I cried unto you for help, ye saved me not out of their hand.
3 Et voyant que vous ne me délivriez pas, j'ai exposé ma vie, et je suis passé jusqu'où étaient les enfants de Hammon, et l'Eternel les a livrés en ma main; pourquoi donc êtes-vous montés aujourd'hui vers moi pour me faire la guerre?
So, when I saw that thou wast not going to save, then put I my life in my hand, and passed over against the sons of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Wherefore, then, have ye come up against me this day, to fight against me?
4 Puis Jephthé ayant assemblé tous les gens de Galaad, combattit contre Ephraïm; et ceux de Galaad battirent Ephraïm, parce qu'ils avaient dit: Vous [êtes] des échappés d'Ephraïm, Galaad [est] au milieu d'Ephraïm, au milieu de Manassé.
And Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim, —and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said—Fugitives of Ephraim, are, ye, O ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, in the midst of Manasseh.
5 Et les Galaadites se saisirent des passages du Jourdain avant que ceux d'Ephraïm y arrivassent; et quand quelqu'un de ceux d'Ephraïm qui étaient échappés, disait: Que je passe; les gens de Galaad lui disaient: Es-tu Ephratien? et il répondait: Non.
And the Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan, against the Ephraimites, —and so it was, that, when the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me pass over, the men of Gilead said to him, An Ephraimite, art thou? and, if he said—Nay!
6 Alors ils lui disaient: Dis un peu Schibboleth, et il disait Sibboleth, et ne pouvait point prononcer [Schibboleth]; sur quoi se saisissant de lui ils le mettaient à mort au passage du Jourdain. Et en ce temps-là il y eut quarante-deux mille hommes d'Ephraïm qui furent tués.
they said to him, Come now, say Shibboleth, and, if he said Sibboleth, and he could not take heed to speak in that manner, then laid they hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan, —and there fell, at that time, of the Ephraimites, forty-two thousand.
7 Et Jephthé jugea Israël six ans; puis Jephthé Galaadite mourut, et fut enseveli en [une] des villes de Galaad.
And, when Jephthah had judged Israel six years, then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.
8 Après lui Ibtsan de Bethléhem jugea Israël.
And there judged Israel, after him, Ibzan of Bethlehem.
9 Et il eut trente fils et trente filles, lesquelles il mit hors [de sa maison, en les mariant], et il prit de dehors trente filles pour ses fils; et il jugea Israël sept ans.
And so it was, he had thirty sons, and, thirty daughters, sent he abroad, while, thirty daughters, brought he from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 Puis Ibtsan mourut, et fut enseveli à Bethléhem.
And Ibzan died, and was buried in Bethlehem.
11 Après lui Elon Zabulonite jugea Israël, dix ans.
And, after him, did Elon the Zebulunite judge Israel, —and he judged Israel, ten years.
12 Puis Elon Zabulonite mourut et fut enseveli à Ajalon, dans la terre de Zabulon.
And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.
13 Après lui Habdon, fils d'Hillel, Pirhathonite jugea Israël.
And there judged Israel, after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite.
14 Il eut quarante fils, et trente petits-fils, qui montaient sur soixante-dix ânons; et il jugea Israël huit ans.
And so it was, he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy ass colts, —and he judged Israel eight years.
15 Puis Habdon, fils d'Hillel, Pirhathonite mourut, et fut enseveli à Pirhathon, en la terre d'Ephraïm, sur la montagne de l'Hamalécite.
And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite died, —and was buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
