Josué 7
1 Mais les enfants d'Israël se rendirent coupables au sujet de l'interdit: car Hacan fils de Carmi, fils de Zabdi, fils de Zara, de la Tribu de Juda, prit de l'interdit, et la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre les enfants d'Israël.
But the children of Israel committed a trespass on the devoted things; for 'Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerach, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted things: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
2 Car Josué envoya de Jérico des hommes vers Haï, qui [était] près de Bethaven du côté de l'Orient de Béthel, et leur parla, en disant: Montez, et reconnaissez le pays. Ces hommes donc montèrent et reconnurent Haï.
And Joshua sent men from Jericho to 'Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and said unto them, thus, Go up and spy out the country. And the men went up and spied out 'Ai.
3 Et étant retournés vers Josué, ils lui dirent: Que tout le peuple n'y monte point [mais qu']environ deux mille ou trois mille hommes y montent, et ils battront Haï. Ne fatigue point tout le peuple [en l'envoyant] là; car ils sont peu de gens.
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite 'Ai: do not fatigue all the people [to go] thither; for they are but few.
4 Ainsi environ trois mille hommes du peuple y montèrent, mais ils s'enfuirent de devant ceux de Haï.
So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men; and they fled before the men of 'Ai.
5 Et ceux de Haï en tuèrent environ trente-six hommes; car ils les poursuivirent depuis le devant de la porte jusqu'à Sébarim, et les battirent en une descente; et le cœur du peuple se fondit, et devint comme de l'eau.
And the men of 'Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them from before the gate unto the stone-quarries, and smote them on the declivity [of the hill]; wherefore the heart of the people melted, and became as water.
6 Alors Josué déchira ses vêtements, et se jeta, le visage contre terre, devant l'Arche de l'Eternel, jusqu'au soir, lui et les Anciens d'Israël, et ils jetèrent de la poudre sur leur tête.
And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord until the evening, he with the elders of Israel, and they put dust upon their head.
7 Et Josué dit: Hélas! Seigneur Eternel, pourquoi as-tu fait [si magnifiquement] passer le Jourdain à ce peuple, pour nous livrer entre les mains de l'Amorrhéen, [et] nous faire périr? Ô que n'avons-nous eu dans l'esprit [de demeurer], et que ne sommes-nous demeurés au delà du Jourdain!
And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord Eternal, wherefore hast thou caused this people to pass over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Emorites, to destroy us? and oh! that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan!
8 Hélas! Seigneur, que dirai-je, puisque Israël a tourné le dos devant ses ennemis?
I pray thee, O Lord, what shall I say, since Israel have turned their back before their enemies!
9 Les Cananéens et tous les habitants du pays l'entendront, et nous envelopperont, et ils retrancheront notre nom de dessus la terre; et que feras-tu à ton grand Nom?
And when the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, they will environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth; and what wilt thou do for thy great name?
10 Alors l'Eternel dit à Josué: Lève-toi; pourquoi te jettes-tu ainsi le visage [contre terre]?
And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou upon thy face.
11 Israël a péché; ils ont transgressé mon alliance que je leur avais commandée, même ils ont pris de l'interdit; même ils [en] ont dérobé; même ils ont menti, et même ils l'ont mis dans leurs hardes.
Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I have commanded them; and they have also taken of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and have also dissembled, and they have also put it into their own vessels.
12 C'est pourquoi les enfants d'Israël ne pourront subsister devant leurs ennemis; ils tourneront le dos devant leurs ennemis; car ils sont devenus un interdit. Je ne serai plus avec vous si vous n'exterminez d'entre vous l'interdit.
Therefore will the children of Israel not be able to stand up before their enemies; their back will they turn before their enemies, because they have become accursed: I will not be any more with you, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
13 Lève-toi; sanctifie le peuple, et dis: Sanctifiez-vous pour demain; car ainsi a dit l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël; il y a de l'interdit parmi toi, ô Israël! tu ne pourras subsister devant tes ennemis jusqu'à ce que vous ayez ôté l'interdit d'entre vous.
Rise up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow; for thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, An accursed thing is in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou shalt not be able to stand up before thy enemies, until ye have removed the accursed from among you.
14 Vous vous approcherez donc le matin selon vos Tribus; et la Tribu que l'Eternel aura saisie s'approchera selon les familles; et la famille que l'Eternel aura saisie s'approchera selon les maisons; et la maison que l'Eternel aura saisie, s'approchera selon les têtes.
And ye shall be brought near in the morning according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the Lord will seize shall come near according to its families; and the family which the Lord will seize shall come near by households; and the household which the Lord shall seize will come near by its men.
15 Alors celui qui aura été saisi en l'interdit, sera brûlé au feu, lui et tout ce qui [est] à lui; à cause qu'il a transgressé l'alliance de l'Eternel, et qu'il a commis une infamie en Israël.
And it shall be, that he that is seized with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he, and all that he hath; because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought wickedness in Israel.
16 Josué donc se leva de bon matin, et fit approcher Israël selon ses Tribus; et la Tribu de Juda fut saisie.
So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was seized;
17 Puis il fit approcher les familles de Juda, et il saisit la famille de ceux qui étaient descendus de Zara. Puis il fit approcher par têtes la famille de ceux qui étaient descendus de Zara, et Zabdi fut saisi.
And he brought near the family of Judah, and he seized the family of the Zarchites; and he brought near the family of the Zarchites by its men, and Zabdi was seized;
18 Et quand il eut fait approcher sa maison par têtes, Hacan fils de Carmi, fils de Zabdi, fils de Zara, de la Tribu de Juda, fut saisi.
And he brought near his household by its men, and 'Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerach, of the tribe of Judah, was seized.
19 Alors Josué dit à Hacan: Mon fils, donne, je te prie, gloire à l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël, et fais-lui confession; et déclare-moi, je te prie, ce que tu as fait; ne me le cache point.
And Joshua said unto 'Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me, I pray thee, what thou hast done: hide nothing from me.
20 Et Hacan répondit à Josué, et dit: J'ai péché, il est vrai, contre l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël, et j'ai fait telle et telle chose.
And 'Achan answered Joshua, and said, Truly! I have indeed sinned against the Lord the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
21 J'ai vu parmi le butin un beau manteau de Sinhar, deux cents sicles d'argent, et un lingot d'or du poids de cinquante sicles; je les ai convoités, [je les ai] pris; et voilà ces choses [sont] cachées en terre au milieu de ma tente, et l'argent est sous le manteau.
I saw among the spoil a handsome Babylonish mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels in weight, and I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver beneath the same.
22 Alors Josué envoya des messagers qui coururent à cette tente; et voici le manteau était caché dans la tente d'Hacan, et l'argent sous le manteau.
Joshua thereupon sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hidden in his tent, and the silver beneath it.
23 Ils les prirent donc du milieu de la tente, et les apportèrent à Josué, et à tous les enfants d'Israël, et ils les déployèrent devant l'Eternel.
And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and they laid them out before the Lord.
24 Alors Josué et tout Israël avec lui, prenant Hacan fils de Zara, et l'argent, et le manteau, et le lingot d'or, et ses fils, et ses filles, et ses bœufs, et ses ânes, et ses brebis, et sa tente, et tout ce qui [était] à lui, les firent venir en la vallée de Hacor.
And Joshua took 'Achan the son of Zerach, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his ox, and his ass, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had, and all Israel were with him, and they brought them up unto the valley of 'Achor.
25 Et Josué dit: Pourquoi nous as-tu troublés? l'Eternel te troublera aujourd'hui. Et tous les Israélites l'assommèrent de pierres, et les brûlèrent au feu, après les avoir assommés de pierres.
And Joshua said, How hast thou troubled us! so shall the Lord trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burnt them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
26 Et ils dressèrent sur lui un grand monceau de pierres, [qui dure] jusqu'à ce jour. Et l'Eternel apaisa l'ardeur de sa colère; c'est pourquoi ce lieu-là a été appelé jusqu'à aujourd'hui, la vallée de Hacor.
And they raised over him a great heap of stones [which is] unto this day; and the Lord turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of 'Achor, unto this day.
