Josué 5
1 Or il arriva qu'aussitôt que tous les Rois des Amorrhéens qui [étaient] au deçà du Jourdain vers l'Occident, et tous les Rois des Cananéens qui étaient près de la mer, apprirent que l'Eternel avait fait tarir les eaux du Jourdain devant les enfants d'Israël, jusqu'à ce qu'ils fussent passés, leur cœur se fondit, et il n'y eut plus de courage en eux à cause des enfants d'Israël.
And it comes to pass, when all the kings of the Amorite which [are] beyond the Jordan, toward the sea, and all the kings of the Canaanite which [are] by the sea, hear how that YHWH has dried up the waters of the Jordan at the presence of the sons of Israel until their passing over, that their heart is melted, and there has not been anymore spirit in them because of the presence of the sons of Israel.
2 En ce temps-là l'Eternel dit à Josué: Fais-toi des couteaux tranchants, et circoncis de nouveau pour une seconde fois les enfants d'Israël.
At that time YHWH said to Joshua, “Make knives of flint for yourself, and return, circumcise the sons of Israel a second time”;
3 Et Josué se fit des couteaux tranchants, et circoncit les enfants d'Israël au coteau des prépuces.
and Joshua makes knives of flint for himself, and circumcises the sons of Israel at the height of the foreskins.
4 Or la raison pour laquelle Josué les circoncit, c'est que tout le peuple qui était sorti d'Egypte, tous les mâles, [dis-je], hommes de guerre étaient morts au désert en chemin, après être sortis d'Egypte.
And this [is] the thing [for] which Joshua circumcises [them]: all the people who are coming out of Egypt, who are males, all the men of war have died in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out of Egypt,
5 Et que tout le peuple qui était sorti, avait bien été circoncis, mais ils n'avaient point circoncis aucun du peuple né dans le désert en chemin, après être sortis d'Egypte.
for all the people who are coming out were circumcised, and all the people who [are] born in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out from Egypt, they have not circumcised;
6 Car les enfants d'Israël avaient marché par le désert quarante ans, jusqu'à ce qu'eut été consumé tout le peuple des gens de guerre qui étaient sortis d'Egypte, [et] qui n'avaient point obéi à la voix de l'Eternel; auxquels l'Eternel avait juré qu'il ne leur laisserait point voir le pays dont l'Eternel avait juré à leurs pères qu'il nous le donnerait, et qui est un pays découlant de lait et de miel.
for forty years the sons of Israel have gone in the wilderness, until all the nation of the men of war who are coming out of Egypt, who did not listen to the voice of YHWH, to whom YHWH has sworn not to show them the land which YHWH swore to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey, are consumed;
7 Et il avait suscité en leur place leurs enfants, lesquels Josué circoncit, parce qu'ils étaient incirconcis; car on ne les avait pas circoncis en chemin.
and He raised up their sons in their stead, Joshua has circumcised them, for they have been uncircumcised, for they have not circumcised them in the way.
8 Et quand on eut achevé de circoncire tout le peuple, ils demeurèrent en leur lieu au camp, jusqu'à ce qu'ils fussent guéris.
And it comes to pass, when all the nation has completed to be circumcised, that they abide in their places in the camp until their recovering;
9 Et l'Eternel dit à Josué: Aujourd'hui j'ai roulé de dessus vous l'opprobre d'Egypte. Et ce lieu-là a été nommé Guilgal jusqu'à aujourd'hui.
and YHWH says to Joshua, “Today I have rolled the reproach of Egypt from off you”; and [one] calls the name of that place Gilgal to this day.
10 Ainsi les enfants d'Israël se campèrent en Guilgal, et célébrèrent la Pâque le quatorzième jour du mois, sur le soir, dans les campagnes de Jérico.
And the sons of Israel encamp in Gilgal, and make the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, in the plains of Jericho;
11 Et dès le lendemain de la Pâque, ils mangèrent du blé du pays, [savoir] des pains sans levain et du grain rôti, en ce même jour.
and they eat of the old grain of the land on the next day of the Passover, unleavened things and roasted [grain], on this very same day;
12 Et la Manne cessa dès le lendemain, après qu'ils eurent mangé du blé du pays; et les enfants d'Israël n'eurent plus de Manne, mais ils mangèrent du crû de la terre de Canaan cette année-là.
and the manna ceases on the next day in their eating of the old grain of the land, and there has been no more manna for [the] sons of Israel, and they eat of the increase of the land of Canaan in that year.
13 Or il arriva, comme Josué était près de Jérico, qu'il leva les yeux, et regarda; et voici, vis-à-vis de lui, se tenait debout un homme qui avait son épée nue en sa main; et Josué alla vers lui, et lui dit: Es-tu des nôtres, ou de nos ennemis?
And it comes to pass in Joshua’s being by Jericho, that he lifts up his eyes, and looks, and behold, [there is] one standing in front of him, and his drawn sword [is] in his hand, and Joshua goes to him, and says to him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?”
14 Et il dit: Non; mais je suis le chef de l'armée de l'Eternel, [qui] suis venu maintenant. Et Josué se jeta sur son visage en terre, et se prosterna, et lui dit: Qu'est-ce que mon Seigneur dit à son serviteur?
And He says, “No, for I [am] Prince of YHWH’s host; now I have come”; and Joshua falls on his face to the earth, and pays respect, and says to Him, “What is my Lord speaking to His servant?”
15 Et le chef de l'armée de l'Eternel dit à Josué: Délie ton soulier de tes pieds; car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens, est saint; et Josué [le] fit ainsi.
And the Prince of YHWH’s host says to Joshua, “Cast off your shoe from off your foot, for the place on which you are standing is holy”; and Joshua does so.
