1 Or il y avait un certain homme malade, appelé Lazare, qui était de Béthanie, la bourgade de Marie et de Marthe sa sœur.
And ther was a sijk man, Lazarus of Bethanye, of the castel of Marie and Martha, hise sistris.
2 Et Marie était celle qui oignit le Seigneur d'une huile odoriférante, et qui essuya ses pieds de ses cheveux; et Lazare qui était malade, était son frère.
And it was Marye, which anoyntide the Lord with oynement, and wipte hise feet with hir heeris, whos brother Lazarus was sijk.
3 Ses sœurs donc envoyèrent vers lui, pour lui dire: Seigneur, voici, celui que tu aimes, est malade.
Therfor hise sistris senten to hym, and seide, Lord, lo! he whom thou louest, is sijk.
4 Et Jésus l'ayant entendu, dit: cette maladie n'est point à la mort, mais pour la gloire de Dieu, afin que le Fils de Dieu soit glorifié par elle.
And Jhesus herde, and seide to hem, This syknesse is not to the deth, but for the glorie of God, that mannus sone be glorified bi hym.
5 Or Jésus aimait Marthe, et sa sœur, et Lazare.
And Jhesus louyde Martha, and hir sistir Marie, and Lazarus.
6 Et après qu'il eut entendu que [Lazare] était malade, il demeura deux jours au même lieu où il était.
Therfor whanne Jhesus herde, that he was sijk, thanne he dwellide in the same place twei daies.
7 Et après cela il dit à ses Disciples: retournons en Judée.
And after these thingis he seide to hise disciplis, Go we eft in to Judee.
8 Les Disciples lui dirent: Maître, il n'y a que peu de temps, que les Juifs cherchaient à te lapider, et tu y vas encore!
The disciplis seien to hym, Maister, now the Jewis souyten for to stoone thee, and eft goist thou thidir?
9 Jésus répondit: n'y a-t-il pas douze heures au jour? si quelqu'un marche de jour, il ne bronche point; car il voit la lumière de ce monde.
Jhesus answerde, Whether ther ben not twelue ouris of the dai? If ony man wandre in the dai, he hirtith not, for he seeth the liyt of this world.
10 Mais si quelqu'un marche de nuit, il bronche; car il n'y a point de lumière avec lui.
But if he wandre in the niyt, he stomblith, for liyt is not in him.
11 Il dit ces choses, et puis il leur dit: Lazare notre ami dort; mais j'y vais pour l'éveiller.
He seith these thingis, and aftir these thingis he seith to hem, Lazarus, oure freend, slepith, but Y go to reise hym fro sleep.
12 Et ses Disciples lui dirent: Seigneur, s'il dort il sera guéri.
Therfor hise disciplis seiden, Lord, if he slepith, he schal be saaf.
13 Or Jésus avait dit cela de sa mort; mais ils pensaient qu'il parlât du dormir du sommeil.
But Jhesus hadde seid of his deth; but thei gessiden, that he seide of slepyng of sleep.
14 Jésus leur dit donc alors ouvertement: Lazare est mort,
Thanne therfor Jhesus seide to hem opynli, Lazarus is deed;
15 Et j'ai de la joie pour l'amour de vous de ce que je n'y étais point; afin que vous croyiez; mais allons vers lui.
and Y haue ioye for you, that ye bileue, for Y was not there; but go we to hym.
16 Alors Thomas, appelé Didyme, dit à ses condisciples: allons-y aussi, afin que nous mourions avec lui.
Therfor Thomas, that is seid Didymus, seide to euen disciplis, Go we also, that we dien with hym.
17 Jésus y étant donc arrivé, trouva que Lazare était déjà depuis quatre jours au sépulcre.
And so Jhesus cam, and foond hym hauynge thanne foure daies in the graue.
18 Or Béthanie n'était éloignée de Jérusalem que d'environ quinze stades.
And Bethany was bisidis Jerusalem, as it were fiftene furlongis.
19 Et plusieurs des Juifs étaient venus vers Marthe et Marie pour les consoler au sujet de leur frère.
And many of the Jewis camen to Mary and Martha, to coumforte hem of her brothir.
20 Et quand Marthe eut ouï dire que Jésus venait, elle alla au-devant de lui; mais Marie se tenait assise à la maison.
Therfor as Martha herde, that Jhesu cam, sche ran to hym; but Mary sat at home.
21 Et Marthe dit à Jésus: Seigneur, si tu eusses été ici mon frère ne fût pas mort.
Therfor Martha seide to Jhesu, Lord, if thou haddist be here, my brother hadde not be deed.
22 Mais maintenant je sais que tout ce que tu demanderas à Dieu, Dieu te le donnera.
But now Y woot, that what euere thingis thou schalt axe of God, God schal yyue to thee.
23 Jésus lui dit: ton frère ressuscitera.
Jhesus seith to hir, Thi brother schal rise ayen.
24 Marthe lui dit: je sais qu'il ressuscitera en la résurrection au dernier jour.
Martha seith to hym, Y woot, that he schal rise ayen in the ayen risyng in the laste dai.
25 Jésus lui dit: je suis la résurrection et la vie: celui qui croit en moi, encore qu'il soit mort, il vivra.
Jhesus seith to hir, Y am ayen risyng and lijf; he that bileueth in me, yhe, thouy he be deed, he schal lyue;
and ech that lyueth, and bileueth in me, schal not die with outen ende. Bileuest thou this thing? (aiōn g165)
27 Elle lui dit: oui, Seigneur, je crois que tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, qui devait venir au monde.
Sche seith to hym, Yhe, Lord, Y haue bileued, that thou art Crist, the sone of the lyuynge God, that hast come in to this world.
28 Et quand elle eut dit cela, elle alla appeler secrètement Marie sa sœur, en lui disant: le Maître est ici, et il t'appelle.
And whanne sche hadde seid this thing, sche wente, and clepide Marie, hir sistir, in silence, and seide, The maister cometh, and clepith thee.
29 Et aussitôt qu'elle l'eut entendu, elle se leva promptement, et s'en vint à lui.
Sche, as sche herd, aroos anoon, and cam to hym.
30 Or Jésus n'était point encore venu à la bourgade, mais il était au lieu où Marthe l'avait rencontré.
And Jhesus cam not yit `in to the castel, but he was yit in that place, where Martha hadde comun ayens hym.
31 Alors les Juifs qui étaient avec Marie à la maison, et qui la consolaient ayant vu qu'elle s'était levée si promptement, et qu'elle était sortie, la suivirent, en disant: elle s'en va au sépulcre, pour y pleurer.
Therfor the Jewis that weren with hir in the hous, and coumfortiden hir, whanne thei sayn Marie, that sche roos swithe, and wente out, thei sueden hir, and seiden, For sche goith to the graue, to wepe there.
32 Quand donc Marie fut venue où était Jésus, l'ayant vu, elle se jeta à ses pieds, en lui disant: Seigneur, si tu eusses été ici, mon frère ne fût pas mort.
But whanne Marie was comun where Jhesus was, sche seynge hym felde doun to his feet, and seide to hym, Lord, if thou haddist be here, my brother hadde not be deed.
33 Et quand Jésus la vit pleurer, de même que les Juifs qui étaient venus là avec elle, il frémit en [son] esprit, et s'émut.
And therfor whanne Jhesu saiy hir wepyng, and the Jewis wepynge that weren with hir, he `made noise in spirit, and troblide hym silf,
34 Et il dit: où l'avez-vous mis? Ils lui répondirent: Seigneur, viens, et vois.
and seide, Where han ye leid hym? Thei seien to hym, Lord, come, and se.
35 [Et] Jésus pleura.
And Jhesus wepte. Therfor the Jewis seiden,
36 Sur quoi les Juifs dirent: voyez comme il l'aimait.
Lo! hou he louede hym.
37 Et quelques-uns d'entre eux disaient: celui-ci qui a ouvert les yeux de l'aveugle, ne pouvait-il pas faire aussi que cet homme ne mourût point?
And summe of hem seiden, Whethir this man that openyde the iyen of the borun blynde man, myyte not make that this schulde not die?
38 Alors Jésus frémissant encore en soi même, vint au sépulcre, (or c'était une grotte, et il y avait une pierre mise dessus).
Therfor Jhesus eft makynge noise in hym silf, cam to the graue. And there was a denne, and a stoon was leid theronne.
39 Jésus dit: levez la pierre. Mais Marthe, la sœur du mort, lui dit: Seigneur, il sent déjà: car il est [là] depuis quatre jours.
And Jhesus seith, Take ye awey the stoon. Martha, the sistir of hym that was deed, seith to hym, Lord, he stynkith now, for he hath leye foure daies.
40 Jésus lui dit: ne t'ai-je pas dit que si tu crois tu verras la gloire de Dieu?
Jhesus seith to hir, Haue Y not seid to thee, that if thou bileuest, thou schalt se the glorie of God?
41 Ils levèrent donc la pierre [de dessus le lieu] où le mort était couché. Et Jésus levant ses yeux au ciel, dit: Père, je te rends grâces de ce que tu m'as exaucé.
Therfor thei token awei the stoon. And Jhesus lifte vp hise iyen, and seide, Fadir, Y do thankyngis to thee, for thou hast herd me; and Y wiste,
42 Or je savais bien que tu m'exauces toujours; mais je l'ai dit à cause des troupes qui sont autour [de moi], afin qu'elles croient que tu m'as envoyé.
that thou euermore herist me, but for the puple that stondith aboute, Y seide, that thei bileue, that thou hast sent me.
43 Et ayant dit ces choses, il cria à haute voix: Lazare sors dehors.
Whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he criede with a greet vois, Lazarus, come thou forth.
44 Alors le mort sortit, ayant les mains et les pieds liés de bandes; et son visage était enveloppé d'un couvre-chef. Jésus leur dit: déliez-le, et laissez-le aller.
And anoon he that was deed, cam out, boundun the hondis and feet with boondis, and his face boundun with a sudarie. And Jhesus seith to hem, Vnbynde ye hym, and suffre ye hym to go forth.
45 C'est pourquoi plusieurs des Juifs qui étaient venus vers Marie, et qui avaient vu ce que Jésus avait fait, crurent en lui.
Therfor many of the Jewis that camen to Marie and Martha, and seyn what thingis Jhesus dide, bileueden in hym.
46 Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux s'en allèrent aux Pharisiens, et leur dirent les choses que Jésus avait faites.
But summe of hem wente to the Farisees, and seiden to hem, what thingis Jhesus `hadde don.
47 Alors les principaux Sacrificateurs et les Pharisiens assemblèrent le Conseil, et ils dirent: que faisons-nous? car cet homme fait beaucoup de miracles.
Therfor the bischopis and the Farisees gadriden a counsel ayens Jhesu, and seiden, What do we? for this man doith many myraclis.
48 Si nous le laissons faire, chacun croira en lui, et les Romains viendront, qui nous extermineront, nous, et le Lieu, et la Nation.
If we leeue hym thus, alle men schulen bileue in hym; and Romayns schulen come, and schulen take our place and oure folk.
49 Alors l'un d'eux appelé Caïphe, qui était le souverain Sacrificateur de cette année là, leur dit: vous n'y entendez rien.
But oon of hem, Cayfas bi name, whanne he was bischop of that yeer, seide to hem,
50 Et vous ne considérez pas qu'il est de notre intérêt qu'un homme meure pour le peuple, et que toute la Nation ne périsse point.
Ye witen nothing, ne thenken, that it spedith to you, that o man die for the puple, and that al the folc perische not.
51 Or il ne dit pas cela de lui-même, mais étant souverain Sacrificateur de cette année-là, il prophétisa que Jésus devait mourir pour la Nation.
But he seide not this thing of hym silf, but whanne he was bischop of that yeer, he prophesiede, that Jhesu was to die for the folc,
52 Et non pas seulement pour la Nation, mais aussi pour assembler les enfants de Dieu, qui étaient dispersés.
and not oneli for the folc, but that he schulde gadere in to oon the sones of God that weren scaterid.
53 Depuis ce jour-là donc ils consultèrent ensemble pour le faire mourir.
Therfor fro that day thei souyten for to sle hym.
54 C'est pourquoi Jésus ne marchait plus ouvertement parmi les Juifs, mais il s'en alla de là dans la contrée qui est près du désert, en une ville appelée Ephraïm, et il demeura là avec ses Disciples.
Therfor Jhesus walkide not thanne opynli among the Jewis; but he wente in to a cuntre bisidis desert, in to a citee, that is seid Effren, and there he dwellide with hise disciplis.
55 Or la Pâque des Juifs était proche, et plusieurs de ces pays-là montèrent à Jérusalem avant Pâque, afin de se purifier.
And the pask of the Jewis was niy, and many of the cuntrey wenten vp to Jerusalem bifor the pask, to halewe hem silf.
56 Et ils cherchaient Jésus, et se disaient l'un à l'autre dans le Temple: que vous semble? croyez-vous qu'il ne viendra point à la Fête?
Therfor thei souyten Jhesu, and spaken togidere, stondynge in the temple, What gessen ye, for he cometh not to the feeste day?
57 Or les principaux Sacrificateurs et les Pharisiens avaient donné ordre, que si quelqu'un savait où il était, il le déclarât, afin de se saisir de lui.
For the bischopis and Farisees hadden youun a maundement, that if ony man knowe where he is, that he schewe, that thei take hym.
