Job 40
1 L'Eternel prit encore la parole, et dit:
And the Lord addressed Job, and said,
2 Celui qui conteste avec le Tout-puissant, lui apprendra-t-il quelque chose? Que celui qui dispute avec Dieu, réponde à ceci.
Will he that contendeth with the Almighty yet find fault? him that reproveth God answer this.
3 Alors Job répondit à l'Eternel, et dit:
Then answered Job the Lord, and said,
4 Voici, je suis un homme vil; que te répondrais-je? Je mettrai ma main sur ma bouche.
Behold, I am too vile: what shall I answer thee? my hand do I place on my mouth.
5 J'ai parlé une fois, mais je ne répondrai plus; j'ai même parlé deux fois, mais je n'y retournerai plus.
Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will not repeat it again.
6 Et l'Eternel parla encore à Job du milieu d'un tourbillon, et lui dit:
Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the storm-wind, and said,
7 Ceins maintenant tes reins comme un vaillant homme; je t'interrogerai, et tu m'enseigneras.
Do but gird up like a mighty man thy loins: I will ask thee, and do thou inform me.
8 Anéantiras-tu mon jugement? me condamneras-tu pour te justifier?
Wilt thou indeed annul my decree? wilt thou condemn me, in order that thou mayest appear righteous?
9 Et as-tu un bras comme le [Dieu] Fort? tonnes-tu de la voix comme lui?
But if thou hast an arm like God, or if thou canst thunder loudly like him:
10 Pare-toi maintenant de magnificence et de grandeur, et revêts-toi de majesté et de gloire.
Then do deck thyself with excellence and greatness, and clothe thyself in majesty and glory.
11 Répands les ardeurs de ta colère, regarde tout orgueilleux, et l'abats.
Scatter abroad the ragings of thy wrath, and look on every proud one, and humble him.
12 Regarde tout orgueilleux, abaisse-le, et froisse les méchants sur la place.
Look on every proud one, and bend him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13 Cache-les tous ensemble dans la poudre, et bande leur visage dans un lieu caché.
Hide them in the dust altogether: bind up their faces in concealment.
14 Alors je te donnerai moi-même cette louange, que ta droite t'aura sauvé.
Then will I also myself praise thee, when thy own right hand hath helped thee.
15 Or voilà le Béhémoth que j'ai fait avec toi; il mange le foin comme le bœuf.
Only behold Behemoth, which I made near thee: grass he eateth like the ox.
16 Voilà maintenant, sa force est en ses flancs, et sa vertu est dans le nombril de son ventre.
Only see, [how great] is his strength in his loins, and his force, in the muscles of his belly.
17 Il remue sa queue, qui est comme un cèdre; les nerfs de ses épouvantements sont entrelacés.
He stretcheth out his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his loins are closely wrapped together.
18 Ses os sont des barres d'airain, [et] ses menus os sont comme des barreaux de fer.
His bones are like pipes of brass: his frame is like bars of iron.
19 C'est le chef-d'œuvre du [Dieu] Fort; celui qui l'a fait lui a donné son épée.
He is the first in rank of the works of God: he that made him can alone bring his sword near unto him.
20 Et les montagnes lui rapportent leur revenu, et c'est là que se jouent toutes les bêtes des champs.
But truly the mountains bear for him his food, and all the beasts of the field play there.
21 Il se couche dans les lieux où il y a de l'ombre, au milieu des roseaux et des marécages.
Under shady trees he lieth down, in the covert of the reeds, and swamp.
22 Les arbres touffus le couvrent de leur ombre, et les saules des torrents l'environnent.
Shady trees cover him as his shadow: willows of the brook encompass him about.
23 Voilà, il engloutit une rivière [en buvant], et il ne s'en retire pas vite; et il ne s'étonnerait pas quand le Jourdain se dégorgerait dans sa gueule.
Behold, a river sweepeth violently along, but he hasteneth not away: he remaineth quiet, though a Jordan rusheth up to his mouth.
24 Il l'engloutit en le voyant, et son nez passe au travers des empêchements qu'il rencontre.
Can one catch him before his eyes? pierce his nose by means of snares?—
