Job 36

1 Elihu continua [de parler], et dit:

Then continued Elihu, and said,

2 Attends-moi un peu, et je te montrerai qu'il y a encore d'autres raisons pour la cause de Dieu.

Wait for me a little, and I will instruct thee; for [I have] still some words on God's behalf.

3 Je tirerai de loin mes raisons, et je défendrai la justice de celui qui m'a fait.

I will lift up my knowledge for him who is afar, and for my Maker will I obtain righteousness.

4 Car certainement il n'y aura rien de faux en tout ce que je dirai, et celui qui est avec toi, est infaillible dans ses raisons.

For truly no falsehood is [in] my words: one that is upright in [his] opinions [dealeth now] with thee.

5 Voilà, Dieu est plein de force, mais il ne dédaigne personne, encore qu'il soit puissant de force de cœur.

Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength of intellect.

6 Il ne laisse point vivre le méchant, et il fait justice aux affligés.

He permitteth not the wicked to live; but he procureth justice for the afflicted.

7 Il ne retire point ses yeux de dessus le juste, même [il place les justes] sur le trône avec les Rois, et les [y] fait asseoir pour toujours, et ils sont élevés.

He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous; but [he placeth them] with kings on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.

8 Que s'ils sont liés de chaînes, et s'ils sont prisonniers dans les liens de l'affliction,

And if they be bound in fetters, and if they be entangled in the cords of affliction:

9 Il leur montre ce qu'ils ont fait, et il [leur fait connaître] que leurs péchés se sont augmentés.

Then doth he tell them of their work, and of their transgressions, when they had become strong.

10 Alors il leur ouvre l'oreille pour les rendre sages; et il leur dit, qu'ils se détournent de l'iniquité.

And he openeth thus their ear to correction, and saith that they should return from wrong-doing.

11 S'ils l'écoutent, et le servent, ils achèveront heureusement leurs jours, et leurs années dans les plaisirs;

If they hearken and serve [him], they will spend their days in happiness, and their years in pleasures.

12 Mais s'ils n'écoutent point, ils passeront par le fil de l'épée, et ils expireront pour n'avoir pas été sages.

But if they hearken not, they will pass away through the sword, and they will perish in want of knowledge.

13 Et ceux qui sont hypocrites en leur cœur, attirent sur eux la colère; ils ne crieront point quand il les aura liés.

But the hypocrites in heart persevere in wrath; they will not offer entreaty when he bindeth them:

14 Leur personne mourra étant encore dans sa vigueur; et leur vie finira parmi ceux qui se prostituent à la paillardise.

Their soul will die in youth, and their life, among the incestuous.

15 [Mais] il tire l'affligé hors de son affliction, et il lui ouvre l'oreille dans l'oppression.

He delivereth the afflicted through his affliction, and openeth through oppression his ear.

16 C'est pourquoi il t'eût tiré hors de l'angoisse, pour te mettre au large, il n'y eût eu rien qui t'eût serré, et ta table eût été toute couverte de viandes grasses.

And also thee hath he incited away from the jaws of distress into a wide space, on the site of which there is no straitness; and what is set on thy table is full of fatness.

17 Or tu as rempli le jugement du méchant, mais le jugement et le droit subsisteront.

But if thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: [divine] judgment and decree will support each other.

18 Certainement [Dieu] est irrité; prends garde qu'il ne te plonge dans l'affliction, car il n'y aura point alors de rançon si grande, qu'elle puisse te délivrer.

For there would be fury, If aught were to incite thee to utter an abundance [of rebellious words]; and the greatness of the infliction must not mislead thee.

19 Ferait-il quelque cas de tes richesses? il ne ferait aucun cas ni de ton or, ni de toute ta grande puissance.

Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold ore, nor all the highest forces of strength.

20 Ne soupire point après la nuit en laquelle les peuples s'évanouissent de leur place;

Desire then not eagerly the night, when nations pass away in their place.

21 Et garde-toi de retourner à l'iniquité; car tu en as fait le choix, pour t'être affligé comme tu as fait.

Take heed, turn not thyself to wrong-doing, so that thou wouldst choose this because of [thy] affliction.

22 Voici, le [Dieu] Fort élève les hommes par sa puissance; [et] qui est-ce qui enseignerait comme lui?

Behold, God is exalted by his power: who is an instructer like him?

23 Qui est-ce qui lui a prescrit le chemin qu'il devait tenir? et qui lui a dit: Tu as fait une injustice?

Who hath given him a charge concerning his way? or who hath ever said, Thou hast acted unjustly?

24 Souviens-toi de célébrer son ouvrage, que les hommes voient.

Reflect, that thou shouldst magnify his work, which [other] men have beheld.

25 Tout homme le voit, chacun l'aperçoit de loin.

All men have looked at it [with astonishment]; the mortal gazeth at it from afar.

26 Voici, le [Dieu] Fort est grand, et nous ne le connaissons point; et quant au nombre de ses années, on ne le peut sonder.

Behold, God is great, and we comprehend him not, the number of his years can truly not be searched out.

27 Parce qu'il met les eaux en petites gouttes, elles répandent la pluie selon la vapeur qui la contient.

For he taketh away drops of water, which are purified into rain in his mist:

28 Et les nuées la font distiller et dégoutter sur les hommes en abondance.

These drop down out of the skies; they distil upon the multitude of men.

29 Et qui pourrait comprendre la [grande] étendue de la nuée, et le son éclatant de son tabernacle?

But [what man] can understand the outspreadings of the clouds? the tumult of his tabernacle?

30 Voilà, il étend sa lumière sur elle, et il couvre le fond de la mer.

Behold, he spreadeth out over it his light, and covereth up the roots of the sea.

31 Or c'est par ces choses-là qu'il juge les peuples, [et] qu'il donne des vivres en abondance.

For by means of them he judgeth nations, he giveth food in superfluity.

32 Il tient caché dans les paumes de ses mains le feu étincelant, et il lui donne ses ordres à l'égard de ce qui se présente à sa rencontre.

[His] hands he covereth with light; and he commandeth it to strike the one who striveth against him.

33 Son bruit en porte les nouvelles, [et] il y a de la fureur contre celle qui monte [à qui gagnera la place].

The noise of his storm telleth of it, yea, the cattle also, of the rising tempest.
