Job 23

1 Mais Job répondit, et dit:

Bvt Iob answered and sayd,

2 Encore aujourd'hui ma plainte est pleine d'amertume, et la main qui m'a frappé s'appesantit [sur moi] au delà de mon gémissement.

Though my talke be this day in bitternes, and my plague greater then my groning,

3 Ô si je savais comment le trouver, j'irais jusqu'à son trône.

Would God yet I knew how to finde him, I would enter vnto his place.

4 J'exposerais mon droit devant lui, et je remplirais ma bouche de preuves.

I would pleade the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

5 Je saurais ce qu'il me répondrait, et j'entendrais ce qu'il me dirait.

I would knowe the wordes, that he would answere me, and would vnderstand what he would say vnto me.

6 Contesterait-il avec moi par la grandeur de [sa] force? Non; seulement il proposerait contre moi [ses raisons].

Would he plead against me with his great power? No, but he would put strength in me.

7 C'est là qu'un homme droit raisonnerait avec lui, et que je me délivrerais pour jamais de mon juge.

There the righteous might reason with him, so I shoulde be deliuered for euer from my Iudge.

8 Voilà, si je vais en avant, il n'y est pas; si je vais en arrière, je ne l'y apercevrai point.

Behold, if I go to the East, he is not there: if to the West, yet I can not perceiue him:

9 S'il se fait entendre à gauche je ne puis le saisir; il se cache à droite, et je ne l'y vois point.

If to the North where he worketh, yet I cannot see him: he wil hide himselfe in the South, and I cannot beholde him.

10 [Mais] quand il aura connu le chemin que j'ai tenu, [et] qu'il m'aura éprouvé, je sortirai comme l'or [sort du creuset].

But he knoweth my way, and trieth mee, and I shall come forth like the gold.

11 Mon pied s'est fixé sur ses pas; j'ai gardé son chemin, et je ne m'en suis point détourné.

My foote hath followed his steps: his way haue I kept, and haue not declined.

12 Je ne me suis point aussi écarté du commandement de ses lèvres; j'ai serré les paroles de sa bouche, plus que ma provision ordinaire.

Neyther haue I departed from the commandement of his lippes, and I haue esteemed the words of his mouth more then mine appointed foode.

13 Mais s'il [a fait] un [dessein], qui l'en détournera? et ce que son âme a désiré, il le fait.

Yet he is in one minde, and who can turne him? yea, he doeth what his minde desireth.

14 Il achèvera donc ce qu'il a résolu sur mon sujet; et il y a en lui beaucoup de telles choses.

For he will performe that, which is decreed of me, and many such things are with him.

15 C'est pourquoi je suis troublé à cause de sa présence; et quand je le considère, je suis effrayé à cause de lui.

Therefore I am troubled at his presence, and in considering it, I am afraid of him.

16 Car le [Dieu] Fort m'a fait fondre le cœur, et le Tout-puissant m'a étonné;

For God hath softened mine heart, and the Almightie hath troubled me.

17 Cependant je n'ai pas été retranché de devant les ténèbres; et il a caché l'obscurité arrière de moi.

For I am not cut off in darknesse, but he hath hid the darkenesse from my face.
