Job 14
1 L'homme né de femme est de courte vie, et rassasié d'agitations.
Man born of a woman is short of days, and sated with harrowing trouble.
2 Il sort comme une fleur, puis il est coupé, et il s'enfuit comme une ombre qui ne s'arrête point.
Like a flower he cometh forth, and is cut down: and he fleeth like a shadow, and remaineth not.
3 Cependant tu as ouvert tes yeux sur lui, et tu me tires en cause devant toi.
And yet on such a one dost thou open thy eyes, and me thou bringest into judgment with thee?
4 Qui est-ce qui tirera le pur de l'impur? personne.
Who can make a clean thing out of an unclean? not one [thing].
5 Les jours de l'homme sont déterminés, le nombre de ses mois est entre tes mains, tu lui as prescrit ses limites, et il ne passera point au delà.
Seeing that his days are determined, the number of his months are [fixed] with thee, that thou hast set his bounds which he cannot pass:
6 Retire-toi de lui, afin qu'il ait du relâche, jusqu'à ce que comme un mercenaire il ait achevé sa journée.
Turn thyself from him that he may recover from his pain, and be able to enjoy like a hired laborer his day.
7 Car si un arbre est coupé, il y a de l'espérance, et il poussera encore, et ne manquera pas de rejetons;
For there is hope for the tree: if it be cut down, it may still sprout again, while its young shoot will not cease.
8 Quoique sa racine soit envieillie dans la terre, et que son tronc soit mort dans la poussière;
If even its root become old in the earth, and its stock die in the dust:
9 Dès qu'il sentira l'eau il regermera, et produira des branches, comme un arbre nouvellement planté.
Yet through the scent of water will it flourish [again], and produce boughs as though It were newly planted.
10 Mais l'homme meurt, et perd toute sa force; il expire; et puis où est-il?
But man dieth, and lieth powerless: yea, the son of earth departeth—and where is he?
11 [Comme] les eaux s'écoulent de la mer, et une rivière s'assèche, et tarit;
The waters run off from the sea, and the river faileth and drieth up:
12 Ainsi l'homme est couché par terre, et ne se relève point; jusqu'à ce qu'il n'y ait plus de cieux ils ne se réveilleront point, et ne seront point réveillés de leur sommeil.
So doth man lie down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they will not awake, and will not be roused out of their sleep.
13 Ô que tu me cachasses dans une fosse sous la terre, que tu m'y misses à couvert jusqu'à ce que ta colère fût passée, [et] que tu me donnasses un terme; après lequel tu te souvinsses de moi! (Sheol h7585)
Oh who would grant that thou mightest hide me in the nether world, that thou mightest conceal me, until thy wrath be appeased, that thou mightest set for me a fixed time, and remember me then! (Sheol h7585)
14 Si l'homme meurt, revivra-t-il? J'attendrai [donc] tous les jours de mon combat, jusqu'à ce qu'il m'arrive du changement.
Or, when a man dieth, will he live again? all the days of my time of service would I then wait, till [the hour of] my release were come.
15 Appelle-moi, et je te répondrai; ne dédaigne point l'ouvrage de tes mains.
Do thou call, and I will truly answer thee: have a desire for the work of thy hands.
16 Or maintenant tu comptes mes pas, et tu n'exceptes rien de mon péché.
Yet now thou numberest my steps: and thou waitest not with [the punishment of] my sin.
17 Mes péchés sont cachetés comme dans une valise, et tu as cousu ensemble mes iniquités.
Sealed up in a bag is my transgression, and thou yet addest to my iniquity.
18 Car [comme] une montagne en tombant s'éboule, et [comme] un rocher est transporté de sa place;
But truly a falling mountain will crumble, and [even] a rock is moved out of its place.
19 Et [comme] les eaux minent les pierres, et entraînent par leur débordement la poussière de la terre, avec tout ce qu'elle a produit, tu fais ainsi périr l'attente de l'homme [mortel].
The water weareth out stones; thou sweepest away their fragments [like] the dust of the earth: and so thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 Tu te montres toujours plus fort que lui, et il s'en va; [et] lui ayant fait changer de visage, tu l'envoies au loin.
Thou assailest him with might without ceasing, till he passeth away: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him off.
21 Ses enfants seront avancés, et il n'en saura rien; ou ils seront abaissés, et il ne s'en souciera point.
His children acquire honor, but he knoweth it not: and they are esteemed little, but he perceiveth nothing of them.
22 Seulement sa chair, [pendant qu'elle est] sur lui, a de la douleur, et son âme s'afflige [tandis qu'elle est] en lui.
But his body. on him, feeleth pain, and his soul will mourn for him.
