Isaïe 58
1 Crie à plein gosier, ne t'épargne point, élève ta voix comme un cor, et déclare à mon peuple leur iniquité, et à la maison de Jacob leurs péchés.
“Cry loudly; do not hold back. Lift up your voice like a trumpet. Confront my people with their rebellion, and the house of Jacob with their sins.
2 Car ils me cherchent chaque jour, et prennent plaisir à savoir mes voies, comme une nation qui aurait suivi la justice, et qui n'aurait point abandonné le jugement de son Dieu; ils s'informent auprès des jugements de justice, et prennent plaisir à approcher de Dieu; [et puis ils disent];
Yet they seek me daily and delight in the knowledge of my ways, like a nation that practiced righteousness and did not abandon the law of their God. They ask me for righteous judgments; they take pleasure in the thought of God coming near.
3 Pourquoi avons-nous jeûné, et tu n'y as point eu d'égard? pourquoi avons-nous affligé nos âmes, et tu ne t'en es point soucié? Voici, au jour de votre jeûne vous trouvez votre volonté, et vous exigez tout ce en quoi vous tourmentez les autres.
'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'but you do not see it? Why have we humbled ourselves, but you do not notice?' Look, on the day of your fast you find your own pleasure and oppress all your laborers.
4 Voici, vous jeûnez pour faire des procès et des querelles, et pour frapper du poing méchamment; vous ne jeûnez point comme ce jour [le requerrait] afin de faire que votre voix soit exaucée d'en haut.
Look, you fast to quarrel and fight, and to hit with your fist of wickedness; you do not fast today to make your voice heard above.
5 Est-ce là le jeûne que j'ai choisi, que l'homme afflige son âme un jour? [Est-ce] en courbant sa tête comme le jonc, et en étendant le sac et la cendre? appelleras-tu cela un jeûne, et un jour agréable à l'Eternel?
Is this really the kind of fast that I would want: A day for anybody to humble himself, for him to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under himself? Do you really call this a fast, a day that pleases Yahweh?
6 N'est-ce pas plutôt ici le jeûne que j'ai choisi, que tu dénoues les liens de la méchanceté; que tu délies les cordages du joug, que tu laisses aller libres ceux qui sont foulés; et que vous rompiez tout joug?
Is not this the fast that I choose: To release wicked bonds, to undo the ropes of the yoke, to set the crushed ones free, and to break every yoke?
7 N'est-ce pas que tu partages ton pain à celui qui a faim? et que tu fasses venir en ta maison les affligés qui sont errants? quand tu vois un homme nu, que tu le couvres, et que tu ne te caches point arrière de ta chair?
Is it not to break your bread with the hungry and to bring the poor and homeless into your house?” When you see someone naked, you should clothe him; and you should not hide yourself from your own relatives.
8 Alors ta lumière éclôra comme l'aube du jour, et ta guérison germera incontinent, ta justice ira devant toi, [et] la gloire de l'Eternel sera ton arrière-garde.
Then your light would be broken open like the sunrise, and your healing would quickly sprout up; your righteousness would go before you, and the glory of Yahweh would be your rearguard.
9 Alors tu prieras, et l'Eternel t'exaucera; tu crieras, et il dira; me voici. Si tu ôtes du milieu de toi le joug, [et que tu cesses] de hausser le doigt, [et] de dire des outrages;
Then you would call, and Yahweh would answer; you would cry out for help, and he would say, “Here I am.” If you take away from among yourselves the yoke, the accusing finger, and the speech of wickedness,
10 Si tu ouvres ton cœur à celui qui a faim, et que tu rassasies l'âme affligée; et ta lumière naîtra dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres seront comme le Midi.
if you yourselves provide for the hungry and satisfy the need of the distressed; then your light will rise in the darkness, and your darkness will be like the noonday.
11 Et l'Eternel te conduira continuellement, il rassasiera ton âme dans les grandes sécheresses, il engraissera tes os, et tu seras comme un jardin arrosé, et comme une source dont les eaux ne défaillent point.
Then Yahweh will lead you continually and satisfy you in regions where there is no water, and he will strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.
12 Et [des gens sortiront] de toi qui rebâtiront les lieux déserts depuis longtemps; tu rétabliras les fondements [ruinés] depuis plusieurs générations; et on t'appellera le Réparateur des brèches, et le redresseur des chemins; afin qu'on habite [au pays].
Some of you will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will raise up the ruins of many generations; you will be called “The repairer of the wall,” “The restorer of streets to live on.”
13 Si tu retires ton pied du Sabbat, [toi] qui fais ta volonté au jour de ma sainteté; et si tu appelles le Sabbat tes délices, et honorable ce qui est saint à l'Eternel, et que tu l'honores en ne suivant point tes voies, ne trouvant point ta volonté, et n'usant point [de beaucoup] de paroles;
Suppose that you turn back your feet from traveling on the Sabbath day, and from doing your own pleasure on my holy day. Suppose that you call the Sabbath a delight, and that you call the matters of Yahweh holy and honored. Suppose that you honor the Sabbath by leaving your own business, and by not finding your own pleasure and by not speaking your own words.
14 Alors tu jouiras de délices en l'Eternel, et je te ferai passer [comme] à cheval par-dessus les lieux haut élevés de la terre, et je te donnerai à manger l'héritage de Jacob ton père; car la bouche de l'Eternel a parlé.
“Then you will find delight in Yahweh; and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you from the inheritance of Jacob your father—for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.”
