Isaïe 17
1 La charge de Damas; voici, Damas est détruite pour n'être plus ville, et elle ne sera qu'un monceau de ruines.
THE WORD AGAINST DAMASCUS. Behold, Damascus shall be taken away from among cities, and shall become a ruin;
2 Les villes de Haroher seront abandonnées, elles deviendront des parcs de brebis qui y reposeront, et il n'y aura personne qui les épouvante.
abandoned for ever, to [be] a fold and resting-place for flocks, and there shall be none to go after them.
3 Il n'y aura point de forteresse en Ephraïm, ni de Royaume à Damas, ni dans le reste de la Syrie; ils seront comme la gloire des enfants d'Israël, dit l'Eternel des armées.
And she shall no longer be a strong place for Ephraim to flee to, and there shall no longer be a kingdom in Damascus, or a remnant of Syrians; for thou art no better than the children of Israel, [even] than their glory; thus saith the Lord of hosts.
4 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que la gloire de Jacob sera diminuée, et que la graisse de sa chair sera fondue.
There shall be in that day a failure of the glory of Jacob, and the riches of his glory shall be shaken.
5 Et il [en] arrivera comme quand le moissonneur cueille les blés, et qu'il moissonne les épis avec son bras; il [en] arrivera, dis-je, comme quand on ramasse les épis dans la vallée des Réphaïns.
And it shall be as if one should gather standing corn, and reap the grain of the ears; and it shall be as if one should gather ears in a rich valley;
6 Mais il y demeurera quelques grappillages, comme quand on secoue l'olivier, et qu'il reste deux ou trois olives au bout des plus hautes branches, et qu'il y en a quatre ou cinq que l'olivier a produites dans ses branches fruitières, dit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël.
and [as if] there should be left stubble therein, or [as it were] the berries of an olive tree, two or three on the topmost bough, or [as if] four or five should be left on their branches; thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel.
7 En ce jour-là, l'homme tournera sa vue vers celui qui l'a fait, et ses yeux regarderont vers le Saint d'Israël.
In that day a man shall trust in him that made him, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.
8 Et il ne jettera plus sa vue vers les autels qui sont l'ouvrage de ses mains, et ne regardera plus ce que ses doigts auront fait, ni les bocages, ni les tabernacles.
And they shall not at all trust in their altars, nor in the works of their hands, which their fingers made; and they shall not look to the trees, nor to their abominations.
9 En ce jour-là, les villes de sa force, qui auront été abandonnées à cause des enfants d'Israël, seront comme un bois taillis et des rameaux abandonnés, et il y aura désolation.
In that day thy cities shall be deserted, as the Amorites and the Evaeans deserted [theirs], because of the children of Israel; and they shall be desolate.
10 Parce que tu as oublié le Dieu de ton salut, et que tu ne t'es point souvenue du rocher de ta force, à cause de cela tu as transplanté des plantes [tirées des lieux] de plaisance, et tu as planté des provins d'un pays étranger.
Because thou hast forsaken God thy Saviour, and hast not been mindful of the Lord thy helper; therefore shalt thou plant a false plant, and a false seed.
11 De jour tu auras fait croître ce que tu auras planté, et le matin tu auras fait lever ta semence; [mais] la moisson sera enlevée au jour que l'on voulait en jouir, et il y aura une douleur désespérée.
In the day wherein thou shalt plant thou shalt be deceived; but if thou sow in the morning, [the seed] shall spring up for a crop in the day wherein thou shalt obtain an inheritance, and as a man's father, thou shalt obtain an inheritance for thy sons.
12 Malheur à la multitude de plusieurs peuples qui bruient comme bruient les mers; et à la tempête éclatante des nations, qui font du bruit comme une tempête éclatante d'eaux impétueuses.
Woe [to] the multitude of many nations, as the swelling sea, so shall ye be confounded; and the force of many nations shall sound like water;
13 Les nations bruient comme une tempête éclatante de grosses eaux, mais il la menacera, et elle s'enfuira loin; elle sera poursuivie comme la balle des montagnes, chassée par le vent, et comme une boule poussée par un tourbillon.
many nations like much water, as when much water rushes violently: and they shall drive him away, and pursue him afar, as the dust of chaff when men winnow before the wind, and as a storm whirling the dust of the wheel.
14 Au temps du soir voici l'épouvante, mais avant le matin il ne sera plus; c'est là la portion de ceux qui nous auront fourragés, et le lot de ceux qui nous auront pillés.
Toward evening, and there shall be grief; before the morning, and he shall not be. This is the portion of them that spoiled you, and the inheritance to them that robbed you of your inheritance.
