Osée 4
1 Enfants d'Israël, écoutez la parole de l'Eternel; car l'Eternel a un procès avec les habitants du pays; parce qu'il n'y a point de vérité, ni de miséricorde, ni de connaissance de Dieu au pays.
Listen to the word of the Lord, sons of Israel, for the Lord is judge of the inhabitants of the land. Yet there is no truth, and there is no mercy, and there is no knowledge of God, in the land.
2 Il n'y a qu'exécration, que mensonge, que meurtre, que larcin et qu'adultère; ils se sont entièrement débordés, et un meurtre touche l'autre.
Slander, and lying, and killing, and theft, and adultery have overflowed, and bloodshed has brought more bloodshed.
3 C'est pourquoi le pays sera en deuil, et tout homme qui y habite sera dans la langueur, avec les bêtes des champs, et les oiseaux des cieux; même les poissons de la mer périront.
Because of this, the land will mourn, and all who dwell in it will languish, with the beasts of the field and the birds of the air. And the fishes of the sea also will be gathered together.
4 Quoi qu'il en soit, qu'on ne plaide avec personne, et qu'on ne reprenne personne; car, quant à ton peuple, ce sont autant de gens qui disputent avec le Sacrificateur.
So, truly, let each and every one not judge, and let no man be accused, for your people are just like those who speak against the priesthood.
5 Tu tomberas donc en plein jour, et le prophète aussi tombera avec toi de nuit, et j'exterminerai ta mère.
And you will be ruined on this day, and now the prophet will be ruined with you. In the night, I have made your mother to be silent.
6 Mon peuple est détruit à cause qu'il est sans science. Parce que tu as rejeté la science, je te rejetterai, afin que tu ne m'exerces plus la sacrificature. Puisque tu as oublié la Loi de ton Dieu, moi aussi j'oublierai tes enfants.
My people have become silent because they had no knowledge. Since you have rejected knowledge, I will drive you away; you do not perform the duties of the priesthood for me, and you have forgotten the law of your God, and so I will forget your sons.
7 A mesure qu'ils se sont accrus ils ont péché contre moi: je changerai leur gloire en ignominie.
According to the multitude of them, so have they sinned against me. I will change their glory into disgrace.
8 Ils mangent les péchés de mon peuple, et ne demandent rien que son iniquité.
They will devour the sins of my people, and they will lift up their souls towards their iniquity.
9 C'est pourquoi le Sacrificateur sera [traité] comme le peuple, et je le visiterai selon son train, et je lui rendrai selon ses actions.
And, just as it is with the people, so will it be with the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and I will repay them for their intentions.
10 Et ils mangeront, mais ils ne seront point rassasiés; ils se prostitueront, mais ils ne multiplieront point; parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'Eternel, pour ne s'y tenir point.
And they will eat and not be satisfied. They have been committing fornication, and they did not cease. Since they have abandoned the Lord, they will not be safeguarded.
11 La luxure, et le vin, et le moût, ôtent l'entendement.
Fornication, and wine, and drunkenness, have taken away their heart.
12 Mon peuple demande avis à son bois, et son bâton lui répond: car l'esprit de fornication [les] a fait errer, et ils ont commis adultère se détournant de leur Dieu.
My people have inquired of their stave, and their staff has announced to them. For the spirit of fornication has deceived them, and they have been fornicating before their God.
13 Ils sacrifient sur le sommet des montagnes, et font des parfums sur les coteaux, sous les chênes, sous les peupliers, et sous les ormes, parce que leur ombre est bonne; c'est pourquoi vos filles se prostitueront, et les femmes de vos fils commettront adultère.
They have offered sacrifice on the tops of the mountains and burnt incense on the hills, under the oak, and the poplar, and the terebinth tree, because its shadow was good; therefore, your daughters will commit fornication and your spouses will be adulteresses.
14 Je ne ferai point punition de vos filles quand elles se seront abandonnées, ni des femmes de vos fils, quand elles auront commis adultère; à cause qu'ils se séparent avec les prostituées, et qu'ils sacrifient avec les femmes débauchées; ainsi le peuple qui est sans intelligence, sera ruiné.
I will not send afflictions on your daughters, when they will commit fornication, nor on your spouses, when they will commit adultery, because you yourselves have associated with harlots and have offered sacrifice with the effeminate, and because the people who do not understand will be defeated.
15 Si tu commets adultère, ô Israël! [au moins] que Juda ne se rende point coupable; n'entrez donc point dans Guilgal, et ne montez point à Beth-aven, et ne jurez point; l'Eternel est vivant.
If you commit fornication, Israel, at least let Judah not commit offenses; and do not be willing to enter into Gilgal, nor to ascend to Bethaven, and neither should you swear, “As the Lord lives.”
16 Parce qu'Israël a été revêche comme une génisse revêche, l'Eternel les paîtra maintenant comme des agneaux dans des lieux spacieux.
For Israel has gone astray like a wanton heifer; so now the Lord will pasture them like a young lamb in a wide expanse.
17 Ephraïm s'est associé aux idoles; abandonne-le.
Ephraim participates in idolatry, so send him away.
18 Leur breuvage est devenu aigre; ils n'ont fait que se prostituer; ils n'aiment qu'à [dire], apportez; ce n'est qu'ignominie que ses protecteurs.
Their feasting has been set aside; they have committed fornication after fornication. They love to bring disgrace to their protectors.
19 Le vent l'a enserré dans ses ailes, et ils auront honte de leurs sacrifices.
The wind has fastened them to its wings, and they will be confounded because of their sacrifices.
